Sega Virtua Fighter 5 (Merged)

I guess the PS3 crew will have to wait until Virtua Fighter 6 for online. With Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur IV both being online on PS3, it seems unlikely the next Virtua Fighter won't be.

Maybe.

The online will have to be very good. Virtua Fighter is such a technical game. They get the online wrong and matches will be made unworkable.

I had no idea those games would be playable online

Well hopefully there's nothing stopping the PS3 version from getting a patch but I has doubts about online for something like VF5. Unless you're going to get the hori arcade sticks, the Xbox 360 D-pad is pretty terrible for fighting games, so much so that AM2 added a joystick input option which obviously wouldn't give you the precision of a PS3 D-Pad or the hori arcade sticks.

Version C is a nice boon for the 360 owners though, and online provided it works.

hello.

and yes, the X-box control isn't going to be the homeliest controller for VF (or any fighting game for that matter). if you're going to perform some of the trickier combos a joystick is a must

Teehee!!!

Xbox 360 Virtua Fighter 5 looks set to be definitive version

Sega has revealed that Virtua Fighter 5 is finally due to be released on the Xbox 360 within a few months, and it comes complete with Live multiplayer and a collection of extras over the PlayStation 3 version.

It will also boast the latest arcade additions and have vibration support and optional analogue control. There are more fighters to face off against in the Quest mode, plus many items and emblems to collect with which to customise your combatants. You can even earn money and use it to buy things in the game’s shop, lending further customisation options and no doubt adding appeal to Live battles.

Lastly, the DOJO mode is more extensive, with more leaderboards and training settings to help ease you into things, extending an already-comprehensive training mode. In terms of performance the 360 version is looking almost identical to the PS3 version, and with these new additions the delay of just a few months is far easier to stomach.

We are huge fans of Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution, as you can tell from our review. The 360 version is looking to make significant improvements over the PS3 version, which is already one of the best games on Sony’s console.

We’ll have more news for you on this exciting-looking game as it comes in – stay tuned for more in the coming months.

Have fun with the crappy 360 D-Pad. I'm still hoping for a patch tot eh PS3 version.

The additions to the 360 version basically stem from the fact that the arcade version is constantly updated, not only in times of minor version updates, but also in terms of new players, new items etc. It makes sense the 360 version would get more. The arcade version has time to amass more features now.

Not sure the additions will make the game a better game overall though. Despite being Version C, the vast, vast majority of players won't be able to tell the difference to Version A, and the items are a nice bonus, but add very little to the game as a whole.

That said, the 360 is getting the more complete version. And online, which providing it works well, will be a huge pull for many players.

I always wonder what the market is like for fighters on 360, with fight fans bred on much more simplistic games such as Dead or Alive.

I think that, at some point in their lives, current 360 owners may have gone to an arcade to play VF or even owned a Ps2, but I'm not sure....it's so mysterious

It's said that some of them.....COULD EVEN BE VF FANS! :wow:

Lol. I get what you're saying. The number of arcade players is small though. And I do imagine relatively few 360 owners have played VF. At least in comparison to Sony players.

Could be wrong mind. I merely speculate. Sony console have a few technical fighters. Microsoft consoles less so.

With that, I kind of agree.
Regardless of where they come from, gamers will always recognize a good game, though.
I'm very excited about this!

You should be, VF5 is leagues above 4, and I'm not joking. ;)

Aoi gets a little toned down in VF5 but GOH IS THE MUTHA***KA'!!!!!! J/K. Goh's still pretty niffty but its still the quick grapplers like Wolf that really pwn. Trust me gammy, you won't have a "counter" button help you (unless you assign one and thats just sad...)

Virtua Fighter returns in Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown for the PSN/XBLA next summer

LMAO that it takes them 5 years to release an updated version of the game. If it were Capcom, it would be more like 5 months

Hi Everyone! All of us at SEGA are excited to share some great news for fighting fans and combat connoisseurs. The Virtua Fighter 5 series has been growing and expanding in arcades since its release, and we wanted to share the latest version with our dedicated PS3 fans. Yes – we’re bringing the latest version of the Virtua Fighter 5 series to PSN next summer!

This latest version is called Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown or “VF5FS,” and it introduces a fistful of new features to this time-tested fighter, including completely rebalanced mechanics, timing, animation and a brand-new dynamic arena system. We’re also introducing two new characters to the roster: Sumo wrestler Taka-Arashi will make his big return from VF3 and karate expert Jean Kujo will join the VF series for the first time. Best of all, VF5FS now includes online play via PSN, engineered to allow fast-paced combat with little to no latency.

Mixing all that with a huge variety of character customization items and costumes, you will be getting the definitive Virtua Fighter experience when the game is released in Summer 2012!

If you can’t wait that long, we’ve got a special treat for you. The SEGA team is rounding up the only existing VF5FS arcade cabinets in the US, and bringing them to PAX! We’ll have the cabinets up and running at Gameworks during PAX so come by and join us for an old-school arcade blowout!

Depending on when you come by, you might also be able to catch a member of the VF5 production team in action. We’re planning to give out some exclusive VF5FS items at PAX and Gameworks too!

If you can’t join us at PAX, please keep checking back for updates. This is just the beginning, we’re planning on providing much more information between now and launch.

The Perfect Fighting Experience: Virtua Fighter 5’s signature style of hand-to-hand combat, with revised mechanics, balance, timing and more, along with simplified controls for new players while retaining the depth that veterans demand

Dynamic and Interactive Arenas: Fighting areas in new shapes and sizes, including arenas with fences and walls that are different for every round – take unexpected advantage of fighters’ new wall-based moves, or break through the fences with special attacks

A Mode for Every Fight: Dominate the leaderboards with VF5’s extremely responsive online battle system, widely praised for having little to no latency, or take on an army of opponents yourself in a new single-player mode

Endlessly Customized Combatants: Enter the ring with one of 19 playable characters, including fan favorite Taka-Arashi from Virtua Fighter 3 and an all-new character, Jean Kujo, and customize them with unique costume and character items.

I never got it the first time around so this is perfect for me.I played VF2 to death on the saturn back in the day.

Fine time to release an update, when everyone damn near forgot about the game. Virtua Fighter IMO is always kinda in the back of the line, especially with so many other fighters out there.

VF5 was the very first game I got for my PS3 back in summer of 2007 and that was when there was virtually no games at all on the system. Kind of weird that they are releasing an update and not a proper sequel. I mean its been 5 years

Wow, I cant believe it took almost a year for this to come out. I forgot about it till it was offered for free via PS+. I remember it looking amazing when it first came out but it looks pretty dated now. Sega needs to come out with a sequel

I'm not sure that's going to happen anytime soon. Sega's in a pretty tough financial situation.
