How do you feel about Wally's return?

  • I'm super excited! About time!

  • I'm happy to hear it.

  • I'm indifferent either way.

  • I'm not so sure if I like this...

  • I hate it.

I never got the Wally to Peter Parker comparison, Wally was never a nerd or a science major...I think that applies to Barry Allen more as far as speedsters go. The only similarities between Peter Parker and Wally that I can definitely note is that they were both young(er) when they were superheroes (well, Wally was very young when he became Kid Flash, younger than Peter was when he got his powers by a few years), of course Barry was young too (24) but was almost ten years older than Peter was when he got his powers.

I was thinking of the smartass aspect, but maybe Johnny Storm is a better comparison. I know one thing, I'll definitely be buying The Flash now.

Yeah, Johnny Storm probably works - but I think Wally has more depth to him and is more serious than even Storm, but that's just me (although I see all the Flashes as being good humored - even Jay back in the day).

I've been buying the book but stopped for a while because of financial reasons. :-/ I subscribed a few months ago so now I get the goodness delivered right to my door. :D

Hopefully you will like what they do with the characters...
(hopefully it's good and we all do, lol - I know how you feel though, I felt similarly about Wally's book but bought it anyway back in the day)

I've actually grown to like Barry more than I did in the past. Mostly from reading Justice League and watching Arrow. And I really like Brett Booth's art. That combined with Wally make it a must buy for me.

It would really be awesome if Wally gets that suit he designed in your avvy.

And I haven't read much of JL in New 52...been curious to check it out though, I heard it's pretty good (I just need more $$$ right now, lol).

Brett Booth is awesome, it's thanks to him that Didio finally let Wally return. The new 52 JL has been great, in the early issues Johns really got the Hal/Barry relationship right.

That's what I heard, and Manapul and Buccellato had a pitch on Didio's desk for how they'd do it I remember reading.

That's good to hear, will definitely have to check it out then.

In a way as Kevin Smith said, Wally is very similar to Barry Allen
I still prefer Barry, he is the Flash I learnt to love most, Wally to me is close as fun great character
They'll probably f**k him up on purpose.
Optimist :oldrazz:
I can hope they make him a really fun character, and easily distinguishable

Dan Didio told me on Facebook that it would be a different Wally. Figures but I'm still excited.

I would expect as much but could still be good though. In all honesty most the things done in New 52 Flash have been pretty good so far.

Hey...at least they didn't change his race :o (or sexual orientation)...that we know of....yet...

I must say, it was an irritating period when Barry/Hal/Barbara Gordon/etc came back to their respective iconic roles and people whined about DC living in the past.

Truth is, certain fans just wanted DC to be stuck in the 90's instead of modernizing the 60's.

And while Wally didn't start out a Barry knockoff, by the end of his tenure as Flash, he essentially was Barry Allen part II.

Different Wally was expected. I'm not even sure if he'll have his "West" surname anymore since Rudolph and Mary were written out of continuity along with Wally. They could easily tie him to Daniel, but that would make him a different character essentially. Could be interesting.

Living in the past or not, those three characters defined those roles and set a precedent for everyone that would follow. That makes them iconic, not relics of history! Haha!

Very true, all this.

Agreed, which is why I'm not surprised they were brought back. DC is just trying to find the most iconic/elemental version of a character and sticking with it. And it wasnt always the case of nostalgia. For example, Michael Holt's Mr. Terrific is much better than Terry Sloan's, hence why Holt is still in the role.

Yea my worries are eased a bit. It looks as if they are trying to set Wally apart from Barry at least as far as look is concerned.

I never had a problem with bringing Barry back, what I hated was them erasing Wally. Meanwhile there were five Robins running around. Give us both Barry and Wally and the problem is solved, it works for Kyle and Hal.

And 4 Green Lanterns on Earth
Not counting Alan Scott

In the new flash tv series coming out, iris west is apparently gonna black so not looking to good on that front ha ha

has anyone considered that Wally might be coming back to unravel this mess that we call the new 52?
I'm callin it now guys... there gonna make another crisis story called FLASHBACK and it's gonna restore the old continuity ha ha ;-)

Lol, doubtful...Barry Allen has always been the Flash that altering the realities, etc has hinged on anyway....which makes sense since he discovered the multiverse originally and it was with him the concept was introduced (so it should be him I suppose)...but anyway yeah, I doubt that will happen. I'm wondering what the deal is with the blue suit and if that is going to be like Wally's permanent color or whatever...? Not necessarily bad, just...different. I may have went with red and silver (just put silver on the gold areas of where the gold used to be and bam you have a costume that distinguishes Wally from Barry snd let's Wally be his own person/identity while still maintaining the speedster look, and possibly give Wally an open cowl a la his Kid Flash suit, I always thought that would be cool) or like the Brett Booth design concept, but the blue could work too, I'm just not used to seeing speedsters with that as their primary color I guess (**** Quicksilver :o ).

(That being said I believe the Carmine Infantino designed Barry Allen red Flash suit is one of the all time greatest costumes in comics, in the top 5, if not top 3 as far as costumes are concerned - and his Wally West Kid Flash suit wasn't bad either to tell you the truth, that's also a pretty good design (the one with the open cowl like I mentioned))

Anyway, if anything happened to the continuity by whatever for whatever reason, I can almost guarantee it would not go "back" to what it used to be, rarely if ever has that happened in comics, it would instead go forward and become something else, possibly something worse, or another reboot, etc....I just want them to reboot that damn collar off of Superman already and ditch that armor look (although thankfully it's been looking less like "armor" lately than when it originally debuted, but that collar has got to go - I hate it). :argh:

I'm all for distinguishing Wally from Barry more, did wonders for Kyle Rayner and Hal Jordan. To be honest I just want Wally to be Wally at his core, don't care if he's called The Flash or not or if his suit is red or blue.

I want it to be Wally West, not just some guy named Wally.
