WandaVision WandaVision General Discussion Thread

Wandavision's reported budget is $225 million, while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had a budget of $150 million.
Well Wanda and Vision have Special Effect powers and Falcon/Bucky have more physical so wings, shield, and arm shouldn't cost a lot in fights. The locations and atmosphere seems to change a lot in Wandavision but FWS likely central spot.

I'm not sure this is accurate. I imagine Falcon flying around would cost just as much if not more than Wanda and Vis. Sure they have a physical prop, but much of it is still CG. And we know FWS has been shooting in different places in the world and they'll visit locations like Madripoor in the show, while so far WandaVision seems to mostly take place in one area with adjustments to the set each episode.

The first 2 episodes don’t look like they need a high budget so they must have a lot saved up for the later ones if this is accurate.
Budget isn’t always effects. It goes into the amount of sets that need to be built and changed. The art direction/hair/wigs, the amount of extras. On top of all of that, it has all the post that goes into the show. Black and white (it’s not just a filter, they seemed to do some weird color stuff with it). The list could go on forever. On top of all of that, Vision has all kinds of CG involved and both characters powers also cost money. The money quickly adds up despite not seeming to be there because it’s just black and white.

Think I can smell by the final episode it will be revealed that Wanda has been toying/manipulating a lifeless, grayish Vision “corpse” that she stole from whatever authority.... that would be pretty sad.

Hmm, I think Wanda is definitely not playing with a full deck at this point but I'm not sure she's that far gone. Other things seem to be happening to her and someone is also manipulating her.

Vision does seem to have some autonomy separate from Wanda, even though she can clearly change things that she doesn't like and got extremely scary with Geraldine when she threatened her happy reality.

As for Monica:

There's a pic of her, Darcy and Agent Woo looking surprised. This could mean it's the moment she discovers her powers.

Feel like they for sure should have debuted the 1st 3 eps together. That cliffhanger was good enough to keep the intrigue.
Olsen looked really good in this episode.

Definitely not sold on the sitcom aspect at this point (the jokes/set ups/punchlines are just not as funny as the actual sitcoms they're paying homage), but when the creepy 'wtf is going on here' vibe kicks in every now and then, THAT'S good television right there. The mystery aspect is exactly the kind of stuff that keeps me hooked into a series.
Overall I like the idea and what they're doing, just wished the sitcom stuff was funnier to compensate.

I think the jokes are significantly funnier than the actual sitcoms.
Really? Wow, I don't feel that at all. And I'm a big sitcom guy, I'll defend them no matter what. There's value to them, against what some people might think. I'm just not laughing. I did like the joke of the guy saying "thank God" when the power went out. That was a good one.
Still, it doesn't really affect the show because this is not what the actual series is about, so it doesn't really bother me that much. But since I'm bored and I like discussing the show here, I thought 'oh well, why not'.

Yeah the jokes ain't that funny. if it was a self-aware show and was making fun of those sitcoms it would be fine. but the jokes are a little cheap. which im kinda surprised about given the sorta people Marvel could have got to write jokes for the show

I think making the audience really laughing is really difficult for a classic sitcom this days in general. Did someone really laughed will full heart in episodes of Big Bang Theory? How I Met Your Mother?

Im in the minority who liked the first episode the most. Im more of a dialog one-liner guy then physical fuss comedy. MVP is for me Hahn in this point, her little overacting these lines gives me a good time :D

For me they are self aware, very. They're deliberately hitting as many sitcom tropes of the eras as they can down to the details. However they're not making a parody or winking at the audience. Paul Bettany said in an interview that it was a sincere love letter to the sitcoms of these eras, with era appropriate jokes that are beyond corny these days and the actors playing them "straight". They weren't looking to add another layer of 4th wall breaking by reassuring the audience that they (they writers) know this is cheesy or having a quippy character.

They even had practical effects on wires for the magic in the first episode.

I didn't really laugh at the first two episodes but really enjoyed them. I smiled a bit more this ep but not belly laughs and I thought it was great.

It's definitely not an approach that will work for everyone though. It will also be interesting to see it the series works better as a whole for some people once they can binge it.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that.
Intriguing pic, but it doesn't look like it has anything to do with Monica having powers to me. They're probably looking at Wanda or the alt-reality there or something.

Hahn is the MVP of most things she's in, imo.

The problem with this sitcom idea is that it needs to be as funny as a sitcom, because if it isn't, it becomes abit boring to wait until anything interesting happens. and the show clearly is trying to be mirroring those sitcoms... and i have seen some of those early sitcoms like bewitched and whatever and i remember them being abit more funnier then what Wandavision is.

Like i said. if it was self-aware with the jokes, then cool, but it feels like we are meant to be laughing at these jokes to carry the show.

Probably. But I'll be surprised if Monica doesn't get her powers in WandaVision. I have enjoyed her character so far, but I would prefer to see her powered when Captain Marvel 2 starts up, but not yet a super hero.

Two and a Half Men made me crack up quite regularly, I'm a bit ashamed to say. The Charlie Sheen era. There was some really good stuff in those early years.
