Warhawk: Broken Mirror Gone Gold
Sony says it's ready and dishes out some new details.

by Chris Roper

March 28, 2008 - Sony and Incog announced today by way of the official PlayStation blog that Warhawk Operation: Broken Mirror has gone gold and will be available on the PlayStation Store on April 17th for $7.99. As mentioned yesterday, the base game is now on sale for $29.99 until April 15th.

Broken Mirror will include 10 layouts in a new winter battlefield called Vaporfield Glacier. Two new Armored Personnel Carriers will be available, and 10 bonus layouts for maps from the original game will be included so that the new APCs will be playable in those.

The blog also provided us with some details on Vaporfield Glacier. The map features dynamic weather, so snow fall will range from very slight at times to blizzard-esque conditions at others. The lighting also will vary, with the sun sometimes hidden behind clouds to make for a more dreary battlefield experience.

The APCs support a driver and six other troops in "pop-up" hatches that allow them to use their own weapons. They'll act as mobile spawn points, allowing your team to set up dynamic field bases. When you spawn in an APC, you're rewarded with an additional weapon, and you're also able to activate a shield by placing an E-Pod. As well, APCs have a boost ability that lets them travel long distances quickly, and also lets them ram into other vehicles and obliterate them.

Update 1.3 is available now. The free update includes:

The new features that are in the new update are as follows:
*BIO-FIELD EMITTER (Creates a zone of healing for allies and a zone of damage for enemies)
*MECHANIC FIELD WRENCH (can be used to repair allied vehicles and turrets as well as damage enemy vehicles and turrets)
*Integration of Contest Winner Insignias and Paint Schemes
*.50cal turret targeting enhanced
*Point value update for CTF defend and flag-carrier kill
*CTF Sudden-Death trigger fix
*Disabled CTF Flag throw/drop functionality
*New VOIP Functionality
*HOME Game-Launching

The servers are down at the moment, but will go back up at 4pm GMT.

Warhawk Community,

As you all know, we have been tracking the team-switch issue ever since the release of the v1.3 patch on Wednesday.

Simply put, my decision to block team-switching on ranked servers was wrong for Warhawk.

Additionally, in an attempt to get a fix for this mistake deployed in-time for last weekend, we opted to try a simple server-side "poke" that did not involve a patch. This type of fix is of course limited in functionality.

While this "poke" did allow team-switching to work again, it also resulted in no team-balance, thus rallowing some games to devolve into 15 on 2 slaughter fests. Clearly this was not optimal and has been disabled in this morning's scheduled maintenance window (5am Pacific).

As I have always said, we take our community support very seriously. Most of the time it is relatively straightforward because we're deploying "happy" patches, giving goodies away, providing solid and fun Booster-Packs, etc.

This team-switching issue represents a mistake that needs to be fixed. Officially putting it outside the realm of our standard "Rainbows-n-Ponies" updates. That said, we are *always* 100% committed to supporting our players -- even in a "zero-pony" situation.

So where does this leave us? -- the Warhawk v1.31 patch.

We started on the patch this weekend while forums were, shall we say, very active :-) and development will be completed today and a build delivered to our regional QA teams for testing and approval. Everyone is working hard to get this fix deployed globally *before* the Booster-Pack is released on April 17th.

The v1.31 patch is focused on fixing the team-switch mistake -- reinstating the Team-Switching, Team-Randomization, *and* Team-Roster-Balance server options.

In addition, we are removing the "unlimited score" option from the Game Options screen. This was an open invitation to padding as many of you correctly pointed out here on the forums.

I want to extend my apologies for this crap-tastic inconvenience and I thank you all in advance for your patience this week while we perform our final testing on the v1.31 patch.

New patches and trophy info per Dylan Jobe:

Hey Everyone!

Sorry I've been MIA -- we have been just cranking on our new updates for all of you; the v1.4 Patch, the v1.5 Patch and yes...our next booster pack.

The team and I have been watching the internets light up with discussions about the trophies in 240 and we thought it was good idea that you got an update straight from the horses mouth...me being the horse I guess :-)

So...YES, hot trophy action for Warhawk is on the horizon!

Since Warhawk released almost a year ago now, we will be patching-in support for the new trophy system. The reason I mention this is because there has been some talk about Warhawk trophies super-auto-magically going LIVE late tonight when the firmware is released. This is not the case. I know the press release stated that Warhawk trophies were going to be patched-in, but I just wanted to clarify for everyone.

We are right on the cusp of making some big announcements for Warhawk, including our upcoming patches and new booster-pack and while I can't talk about any of those right now (you will need to wait like a week or so) I can talk a bit about our trophy support in the v1.5 patch.

First off, there are 56 trophies included in the Warhawk v1.5 Patch. These are broken down into a couple of categories:

* There are 10 trophies based on the Warhawk's current stats/rank/awards system. Like getting all your Bronze badges, attaining a specific rank, or earning a number of medals.
* There are 34 trophies that are entirely *new* rewards based on Warhawks core game and not based on our current stats, ranks or other awards.
* There are then 4 trophies per booster pack that are, of course, completely new awards.

Developing 56 new trophies was a really fun part of the v1.5 production cycle...but 10 of them are based on stats and awards that you, our community may have already earned -- so that's why we made sure that those 10 trophies based on our core stats system would be paid out retroactively. Meaning, that once the v1.5 patch is released, and if you've already earned the requirements for those trophies *bling*bling*bling* Warhawk will pay them out to you!

Lastly, cause I know everyone will be asking the obvious question, when is the v1.5 Patch coming out...we haven't even *officially* announced the v1.4 Patch!!!???

All I am allowed to say is that the v1.4 Patch is very, very, very close to being released and we actually developed the v1.5 Patch in parallel, but staggered, with the v1.4 Patch. The reason we did this is because there are stuffs in the v1.4 Patch that we wanted to get out to everyone ASAP...but the v1.5 patch isn't that far behind!

Hopefully that clears things up!

Figured this is the thread to ask.

I haven't taken a punt and gotten Warhawk yet, is it worth it? Also, will my gameplay experience diminish without a headset?

Warhawk is awesome. The gameplay is really easy to pick up. If you do not have a Bluetooth, you can still others talk through your tv speakers.

I thought the Trophy update was this update! Curses! :(
