Warrior

damn really

i was hooked from the very first scene

and there was'nt a scene i did'nt like lol

Same here. That opening scene was flat-out powerful and the film never let up. That speech Hardy gives is heartbreaking.

Your friend sounds like a pretentious snob...

(No offense.)

This film showed really well how to document fights on film...I saw Mission Impossible this past weekend and whoa every punch and kick sounded like someone broke through a wall

Warrior ranked #39 on my top movies of 2011, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's still within my "pretty good" category of films. For me, the biggest thing I remember about the movie is Nolte and that cool training montage.

ummm, i'm i the only one who thought this movie was predictable and just "ok".

I have a couple of questions?

- What did the dad do in the past that made the boys leave, just drunkenness or something else more serious?

- So, since Tom Hardy's character didn't win, does that mean that the woman he was fighting for, the marine's wife, is getting zip?

Some missing story elements?

He beat up their mother and Tommy decided to go with her and she then died of cancer years later while they lived in poverty.

The other brother instead stayed with his father but eventually left because of the dads abusive and drunken behavior. Tommy had a grudge against his brother as well because he didn't leave the house along with Tommy and his mom because he had fallen in love with his current wife.

Its not that hard to figure out. Basically, he was an abusive drunk to them and his wife growing up. Eventually, when the boys were teenagers, his wife finally found the courage to leave him. She took Tommy with her and moved out of the city but Brennan stayed. Not so much out of loyalty to his father moreso than it was for his love for the woman that would eventually become his wife.

Tommy took that move as Brennen choosing Paddy over him and their mother. That's where his hatred comes from.

In addition to his abuse, Brennen's hatred towards Paddy also comes from his jealously over his perceived favoritism towards Tommy growing up.

Then as adults, Paddy finally found the strength to get sober and is trying to redeem himself to his boys…something they clearly refuse to be a part of given the years of abuse and pain he'd caused them and their mother.

Its left to you to interpret what happens. It wouldn't be a stretch to assume that Brennan offers some of his winnings to the Marine widow. At the end of the day, the focus of the movie is the relationship between the boys and their father. The widow being there is more so to show that Tommy is more than some tough guy looking for the next person to beat down…there's more to him than he tries to let on.

So I recommended this movie to a friend of mine the other day. She watched it tonight and told me she thought it was overrated, unrealistic, predictable crap and would never watch it again.

I think I'm going to stop recommending movies to her. I think her ego gets in the way of everything. Hardcore movie fans these days seem to walk into everything thinking, "Every movie these days sucks, I'm too good to be watching any of this crap, and I'll bet I can find 100 things wrong with this one in the first 10 minutes."

I got two friends that are like that needless to say, me and my other friends rarely invite them to the movies when we all go. They only go see movies that are the artsy/ Oscar buzz movies. I like some of those movies too ,but I enjoy action, comedy, sci if, and of course super hero flicks.

But my movie snoob friends look down on movies like The Dark Knight, The Hangover, Warrior, Real Steel, etc because that aren't the artsy Oscar buzz movies. As a matter of fact, I don't really consider them friends. They are just friends of my friends lol.

Not even 5 mins of screen time more like a two second cameo ( seriously). There is a brief moment where we see Kurt getting out of a car at the event and that's it.

What are you talking about? Kurt Angle played Koba, you get to see him in an entire match with Brendan.

Huh? Angle played Koba...the badass Russian fighter that was upset by Brennen.

Thanks for the post, very detailed.

I figured that the by the end, but I like to see that it's implied

O yea.. I just watched the movie for the second time today and it was indeed him. I just didn't recognize him for some reason lol.

I interviewed Angle right before the movie came out. Koba was basically an analog for Fedor Emelianenko. Angle also trained to speak Russian for the movie and was going to have dialogue that was eventually cut during filming. Or so Angle stated ;) .

I think if the movie was made released by a better studio and had a better push it probably would've made more money. Lionsgate it seems can't promote anything except the SAW franchise.

Not true...It simply was a MMA film theme and people overlooked the story of this family and brothers relationship.

The guy who made Miracle made this film...I knew I would love it

This is exactly what's wrong with audiences today. Ironically, they think they're better than the movies that are coming out, when in actuality, they are not.

Yeah, it's true. It seems like people don't want to give movies a chance anymore. They walk into it with a goal of finding everything "wrong" with it that they possibly can. It's almost as if it's uncool to like anything anymore.

Exactly. There's people who have become too jaded and cynical. They'r elooking for more realism which isn't good. If it isn't realistic, it's silly. Guess it just reflects the times. Which is sad.

I thought that Warrior was a pretty good film. I mean it's super over the top but I got emotional so it worked.

Tom Hardy was the best thing about the movie though, his performance was great.

Totally agree. Hardy knocked it out of the park in this one.

And yeah, it's an over the top movie but it works. Shame it's been overlooked.

It wasn't anything special for me apart from a few things (Nolte and Hardy) and the ending. I could see why it's getting overlooked.
