Comics Was Black Tarantula's origin ever explained?

That link doesn't give any details on his origin.

Unfortunately, the Black Tarantula was a "classic" 90s villain, complete with generic 90's powers, i.e healing factor and augmented strength with no personality, therefore his origin was deliberately cr*p and undefined. But apparently he was trained by the Hand and got his powers via a potion - if Wikipedia is to be believed

i don't think i was reading spidey then but he sounds really interesting and has a cool costume IMO.

When DeFalco was writing AMZ in the late 90's, I was really unimpressed. He had written one of my favorite Spidey runs in the mid 80's when he took over for Roger Stern. I really had high hopes and felt his 2nd run was a letdown. I didn't find any of his story arcs, including the one featuring Black Tarantula, all that interesting.

Now, I'd give up serveral days pay to have him back on the book. I'd rather read about the Black Tarantula than Spider-totems, Digger, Sins Past, the Iron Spider, and the upcoming "big story" Quesada and JMS are suppose to publish in 2007. A character like the black Tarantula that has a backstory so vague and unexplored that a good writer could come in and make him interesting.
