Watch! This! Movie! Now!!!!!!!

I've been meaning to check that one out Carmine. Is it pretty original or could you name a few movies that might have similarities to it?

Well, it takes place almost entirely in one room. Which of course leads me to compare it to films such as Rope and....12 Angry Men. :D But it's less....classy. It's surreal, it's profane and funny. I guess it's a hard film to love for alot of people. It's hard to pin down really, but it lingers.

Hotlinking
Hotlinking is when you directly post an image from a website. Many websites see this as you “stealing” their bandwidth and will sometimes retaliate by automatically replacing the intended image with another when it’s posted. These images range from simple caution messages to disturbingly graphic images. If you choose to hotlink and your image is replaced by a graphic/pornographic/inappropriate image, you will be banned. This can be easily avoided by re-hosting all images at a site such as ImageShack or PhotoBucket.

Just a head's up consider how many pics I see being hotlinked

The fact that it has a great cast and you compare it to films like Rope and 12 Angry Men, I'm definitely going to have to bump this to the top of my Netflix que.

Evelyn. It's got Pierce Brosnan in it. Very good movie.

Possibly one of John Huston's best movies, it's a shame not many people have seen it.

I really want to see that. Great ****ing cast. I saw it in a store once, and did not buy it. I still feel regret over that.

The movie that inspired Segio Leone's Fistful of Dollars. Rather, that was actually an unofficial remake... Like any Akira Kurosawa film, this is just ozzing with cool and plays out just like a western. Toshiro Milfune was the Japanese Clint Eastwood, that's for sure.

I still need to see more Kurosawa. Seven Samurai has been gathering dust on my shelf for months now. I can't get myself to watch it.

That's one way to put it. :hehe:

Seven Samurai is the fastest 3 hours of your life. trust me on that. it's long but the pacing is surprisingly amazing that you don't notice it at all.

again, Toshiro Milfune steals the show in that one.

BTW, I'm not too keen on the sequel, Sanjuro. It's not a bad movie (it picks up near the end) but it lacks the edge that Yojimbo had.

Renaissance

an animated/mocap scifi noir film starring danield craig - great style which is very unique and looks like a comic brought to life but still with realistic movement the story isnt groundbreaking but entertaining and its a great film to watch, not many people I know have heard of it

Yeah, I was the same, I taped it off tv and left it sitting for a couple of years before I watched it, I thought 'no way will this live up to the hype', and so kept putting it off. But it's truly great and deserves it's rep. As Octoberist said, it flies by.

Re: Wiseblood, yeah, I saw that once, don't recall it that well but it was an interesting flick. I read all of Flannery O Conner's short stories, so was already a fan of hers, great writer.

Another movie that folk don't seem to talk about much , that is great, is Barfly with Mickey Rourke. I think it's his best performance(have not seen the wrestler yet mind you). Barbert Schroder's first US film, and written by poet/novelist Charles Bukowski. When the funding was pulled on the film in pre-production, Schroder went into the Cannon film offices with a Black and Decker saw and threatened to cut off his pinky on his left hand if the funding was not re-instated, he'd taken a special pain killer for the gig and was totally serious. The movie got it's funding back on the spot. He fought long and hard to get that screenplay made, fighting off competitors like Dennis Hopper who wanted the gig.
'Factotum' starring Matt Dillon is another Bukowski adaptation that is very good.

Go watch it right away; Seven Samurai is easily one of the finest films I've ever seen. It also inspired the western The Magnificent Seven starring Steve McQueen.

I've been holding out on seeing Seven Samurai until it comes out on Blu-Ray. I'm an HD ****e.

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro is Hayao Miyazaki's film debut. It would be a great adventure story in any medium, but is a particularly effective cartoon. It's full of great characters and humor, and has strong animation for the time it came out. And it doesn't require any previous knowledge of the Lupin character to watch.

Sweet and Lowdown seems to be frequently overlooked among Woody Allen movies, but it's a really good documentary-style comedy. Sean Penn and Samantha Morton definitely deserved their Oscar nominations for this.

El Topo, a surreal acid western about a gunslinger and his journey to find enlightenment. directed by Alejandro Jororowsky, it has influenced people like David lynch.

I too want to back Seven Samurai its a great film. I saw it as part of a Kurosawa night on the BBC years ago which also had a documentary about the great filmmaker

I actually watched this on Netflix today. Great movie

First Kurosawa movie I have ever seen.

This thread reminds me too much of the fact that there is a hideous amount of cult films I still need to see. Wise Blood and this is one aswell.

Great film, really gives you a sense of an outsider looking into human life. It celebrates life without being cheesy or corny. It's also pretty slow, but it's paced well.

Probably one of my favorite films of all time.

I concur with the earlier recommendation of Joyeux Noel. Watched it a couple days ago. Very good movie

Beautiful little movie that just so happens to star Heath Ledger. Don't know if it's popular, but it's good!
