do we yet know who is going to do the score for WATCHMEN? i heard a rumor about Philip Glass; is this true?

also, do we know if the background music on the main web-site
http://watchmenmovie.warnerbros.com/
is at all related to the musical score we'll be getting?

"Bates, score composer for movies and television including director Zack Snyder's blockbuster hits 300 and Dawn of the Dead, has signed on with Snyder again for Watchmen. Snyder, who praised the score to 300 saying, "It moves the film into mythology cauterizing the images as you view them, making them something they could never be alone" has once again asked Bates to join his creative team. The film based on the graphic novel stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Patrick Wilson."

well alright... that answers that.

Yeah, Bates is on board (apparently despite the fact that Bates plagiarized Elliot Goldenthal's score for TITUS for his work on 300). I'd prefer Glass, myself.

Bates, Bates.. so.. tell me.. are we getting another industrial-ish score this time..?

God, I hope not. But I heard some music on the main page that sounded kinda like Graeme Revell's score for the Crow and it sounded perfect. I hope it's official.

if the score is going to be a bunch of this stuff the whole movie, i would be pleased.

sometimes i turn up my computer's sound and just let it play and play. it's great.

Who is doing to score did an amazing job with the comic con score

I wish they had use some of Walter Carlos music(now known as Wendy Carlos), of Clockwork Orange and other Kubrick movies fame.
Classical music played through synthesyzers would have fit the mood of the film imo.

as always, i agree gwyn. the clockwork orange sound is perfect.

and i thought to myself one day, if there was a director who could handle watchmen, it's kubrick

BUT BUT, just based on his track record, he would end up just reading a summary of the book and making it into his own story altogether, but since it's kubrick it would end up being equally brilliant.

but still, he's the greatest of all time.

but yeah ANYWAY, i agree about the clockwork orange style score

Bates' score for 300 was horrible. It did it's job decently enough at giving the movie background ambiance music, but as standalone music, when you don't have the visuals of 300 to distract you, it's impossible to listen to.

I really like the original music they wrote for the Watchmen Motion Comic, hope they use some of that, or I hope at least Bates goes down that same direction.

Hey Lucha, good to see you, man. Stanley Kubrick's Watchmen, wow that would have been something else, wouldn't it ? He probably would have ended up cannibalizing it and making it his own, coming up with something equally brilliant like you eloquently put it.
I can't wait to see the more faithful Snyder take either though. A good director certainly not on a par with K (who is ?:woot:) but maybe in the same league as a Carpenter :cwink:hopefully.
(I think you like his work too.)

These are the only songs that I require. :D

Desolation Row
Bob Dylan
Lyrics from Bob Dylan’s “Desolation Row” appear in the title and the end quote of Chapter I of the comic series: “At midnight, all the agents and superhuman crew go out and round up everyone who knows more than they do.”

Neighborhood Threat
Iggy Pop
Chapter I, Page 10, Panel 1. The song blares from the boom box of a male Knot Top named Derf as Dan walks home from Hollis Mason’s apartment. The lyric shown is “…look down your back stairs buddy, somebody’s living there an’ they don't really feel the weather…”

The Comedians
Elvis Costello
Lyrics from Elvis Costello’s “The Comedians” appear in the title and the end quote of Chapter II of the comic series:“And I’m up while the dawn is breaking, even though my heart is aching. I should be drinking a toast to absent friends instead of these comedians.”

Walking On The Moon
The Police
Chapter III, Page 19, Panel 1. The chorus of this song is sung by a soldier painting a warning sign on Dr. Manhattan’s door: “Walkin’ on…Walkin’ on the moooo-oooon.”

Jocko Homo
DEVO
Chapter VII, Page 10, Panels 2-3. Referenced by Laurie in Dan’s basement after trying on his goggles. She says, “Sure. Devo. Are We Not Men?” She is either referring to the album title “Q: Are We Not Men” or the lyric from the track “Jocko Homo” where Mark Mothersbaugh shouts the same line.

Unforgettable
Nat King Cole
Chapter VII, Page 13, Panels 8-9. The song’s lyrics are shown as coming from a Nostalgia perfume commercial on T.V. during Dan and Laurie’s first attempt at making love: “Oh, my darling, it’s incredible, that someone so unforgettable should think I am unforgettable, too.”

You’re My Thrill
Billie Holiday
Chapter VII, Pages 25, Panel 7, Page 26 Panels 1-4, 7. Nite Owl plays the song from his speakers on the Owl Ship during the tenement fire rescue: “You’re my thrill. You do something to me. You send chills right through me when I look at you, ’cos you’re my thrill…”

All Along The Watchtower
Bob Dylan
Lyrics from Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” appear in the title and the end quote of Chapter X of the comic series: “Outside in the distance a wild cat did growl, two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.”

The Times They Are A-Changin’
Bob Dylan
Chapter XI at the bottom of Page 32. In the supplement at the end of the chapter there’s a ad for Nostalgia perfume that uses the song title as an ad slogan.

Sanities
John Cale
Lyrics from John Cale’s “Sanities” appear in the title and the end quote of Chapter XII of the comic series: “It would be a stronger world, a stronger loving world, to die in.”

Put all these songs in somewhere.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

Great action music. I can't wait to hear the more "dramatic" stuff.

Wow, that sounds...terrible. Has the guy ever heard of an orchestra? I'd be fine with this synthy stuff if it were 80's-ish to match the period. But this crap just already sounds dated. *longs for Philip Glass music now more than ever*

And I agree about the music from the Motion Comic - that's fantastic, and while I wouldn't expect that to work in the movie, it was much more in the right direction than this.

^That's a good attitude to have. But I can't muster up any hope for this score now. Oh well, at least now I have the possibility of being pleasantly surprised.
