WB & DC Meet For A Summit

More from Jett:

As I said, there is a way to make rebooters and SR fans happy. I heard something this past weekend in that regard, and now Anne Thompson has posted something about the Superman franchise. WB wants another go at it -- especially now that JL is dead.

We'll see....

It's not going to be a reboot in the way "rebooters" hope.

If it goes down, I don't think anyone will be disappointed once the film is released.

the ones who dont like routh as superman and singers style will be disappointed

OBVIOUSLY

I seriously doubt i`m going to be happy with the sequel especially because of Jason...

So am I to assume then in this sequel script that Jason has never existed? Otherwise if I see him or even hear his name mentioned, I will be disappointed.

Can you imagine the money they'll have to spend to convince folks that didn't like S.R. to see it?

this is true.
if you do a sequel you need to get the haters back in the theater.

maybe if you do a reboot you will get everyone back because they would be curious to see the new movie.

you think they are thinking about that?

ummm....how can you "revamp" while still making it a direct sequel?

seems like an oxymoron.......

what's it going to be........a vague sequel to a vague sequel?????

OBVIOUSLY
Yes. Count me in as one of those people. I don't really have an opinion of Routh because I felt he wasn't given anything to do.

It seems to me that they still want singer but they also want a revamp. Who knows.

I'm thinking that "revamp" while still being a direct sequel is sorta like how Batman Forever was to Burton's Batman films.

While Batman Forever was a direct sequel to Batman Returns, it had a much different stylistic and thematic tone.

With Man of Steel I'd guess the same thing. While Superman Returns pretty much just used the Donner films as inspiration, Man of Steel will probably use less Donner material and more material from the comics. They'll probably make Man of Steel a more light hearted film instead of a darker one like Superman Returns was. Maybe a different Superman suit that looks more like the one from the comics like the one we've seen Dean Cain and Christopher Reeve wear instead of the one Brandon Routh wore.

That's how I'm taking it as.

Same here.

It's going to be interesting to see how this goes down. If I get a sequel I'll be happy, especially if Singer is on board b/c I would assume he saw enough that he liked.

From Steve of Superman Homepage:

I received an email earlier this week stating that writers have been hired, and Bryan Singer (who is still attached to direct) is having writing sessions with them twice a week. I'm unable to get the names of those writers at this point in time, but have put in a call to my source to get a response to Anne Thompson's report.

I wrote a sequel script which revelaed that what Superman experienced in SR wasn't real, but a ploy of a villain to hurt Superman. I could be on board for this sort of organic reboot within the story. But if Richard and Jason are still there, then forget it.

That's the lamest thing(no offense) possible, imo. People complain about SR being a soap opera then you use of the the biggest, most recognizable soap devices in recent memory that was universally panned?

You might as well use "Who shot J.R." as a sequel.

Because villains in comics NEVER manipulate Heroes into believing something like that...

Who shot JR was lame b/c it was all a dream. A villainous plot by a character who has that power is a good idea. So I guess "Sacrifice" was a lame Superman story because Max Lord was manipulating SUperman into believing something that wasn't real.

What was lame was SR and the corner it painted itself into.

Hey, I give you props for being one of the very few reboot supporters to say that there is a middle ground to be found.

JR being shot wasn't a dream i don't think. Bobby Ewing dying was the dream.

I'm not saying that manipulation isn't a good plot device. But to simply invalidate everything you just watched in a movie is lame. That's like saying Spiderman 3 never happened or everything after the initial symbiote take-over was a dream because fans hate it. Comic/tv writers have to come back after disappointing seasons or runs and make the previous run fit without simply acting like it didn't exist(even if they ignore some of the plot points)

Either have the stuff to kill the kid or reboot the dang franchise.

But there was more to Sacrifice than just Maxwell Lord manipulating Superman. Having an entire movie pushed aside as if nothing happened is a horrible cop out.

I think this scene from Family Guy perfectly describes it:

Brian: So, what you're saying is that what you experienced in the simulation didn't really happen, or even matter?

Stewie: Yes, that's correct.

Brian: So, it was sort of like a dream?

Stewie: No, it was a simulation.

Brian: Yes, but, theoretically, if someone watched the events of that simulation from start to finish, only to find out that none of it really happened, I mean… you don't think, that would, j-- be just like a giant middle finger to them?

Stewie: Well, hopefully, they would have enjoyed the ride.

Brian: I don't know, man. I think you'd piss a lot of people off that way.

(Brian leaves)

Stewie: Well, at least it didn't end like The Sopranos, where it just cut to black in mid-sen-- (the screen goes black like Stewie described)
