WB is Making the Suicide Squad movie

Well, the gist of that article is that there's a shortage of actors who can play tough guys. Statham certainly can project a tough guy persona - and that's something of value to producers, especially in action vehicles that don't call for much else. But I don't think Statham has much of a range beyond that. Olyphant, for one, has far more talent in my opinion.
Agreed.

He won't be villains, unfortunately. That's the main reason why he wouldn't be Deadshot IMO.

Has he said that? I know he played a villain in Turn It Up and in Cellular, but he could have stopped after those movies.

That was my impression since he felt insulted about being Bullseye in a new Daredevil film.

It's good that he has been villains before. Haven't seen those movies. He should do it more often. Statham would make a great Bullseye or Deadshot.

Are you referring to this?

LA Times had a chance to sit down with Frank Miller and Jason Statham, who chatted about a potential “Daredevil” movie, which could star Statham as the title character.
When Miller worked for Marvel Comics, his work on “Daredevil” added new depth to the character, but Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 adaptation (starring Ben Affleck) was not very well received by fans or critics. So when the topic of “Daredevil” came up, Miller was more than happy to discuss.
Statham said he is eager to work with Miller at some point and that he adores the Daredevil character. “Just give me the chance, I would love to be Daredevil,” he said. When the newspaper suggested that Statham would make a better Bullseye, he quickly bounced back with: “Forget Bullseye, I want to be Daredevil!”
Miller agreed with him: “I think he should be Daredevil too.”

I wouldn't say he was insulted, just that he want to play Daredevil instead. I know that's been one of his dream roles.

That's it.

It may be his dream role but he suits Bullseye not Daredevil.

Amanda Waller: CCH Pounder
Deadshot: Jason Statham, Timothy Olyphant
Nightshade: Leah Cairns
Rick Flag Jr: Johnny Messner
Captain Boomerang: Travis Bimmel
Killer Frost: Kate Nauta, Katee Sackhoff
Bronze Tiger: Tony Jaa

Director: Len Wiseman

I hope we get some production stills! You know, after they shelve the idea. Wich they will.

agreed they can't even get the trinity going and they're trying to pick up stuff like this for movies.

Bronze Tiger should be a black man.

More likely Michael Jai White. First guy that comes to my mind.

MJW isn't a particularly good actor, though. And he's getting up there in age.

I would think it would be someone more along the lines of Lee Thompson Young.

That's it.

Completely disagree. Bullseye is a scenery chomper, a hyper active, chatty nutcase.

Statham is suited to a more reserved, calm, calculating bad ass.

Blade got going before Spider-Man. I can see this movie happening.

I should point out, those where Fox(I think) and Sony. This is Warner we're talking about. In the last year and a half they suggested they'd work on projects ranging from Teen Titans to Supermax/Green Arrow. Of all those, they managed to looking close to starting Green Lantern and Jonna Hex. They could arbitrarrilly stop them at any time, if an ingroup or a producer wants it. And I'm not talking about a Nolan level guy, either. I'm thinking more like Jon Peters. And they don't NEED to do DC movies, either.

Then again, I do give the benefit of the doubt: Every once in a while a miracle can.

Hex has a cast and begins shooting in April, they are actively testing actors for the role of Hal Jordan with a release date set, and my point still stands. Sometimes it's easier to get alesser known characters going film wise, as they are less known, the film makers can take more liberties, with less fanboy *****ing.

CCH Pounder is just a total shoe-in for Amanda Waller. It's like Patrick Stewart for Xavier.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Suicide Squad’ Creator John Ostrander Explains Who Should Be On Movie Team’s Roster

Last month, the trend toward darker comic book fare in Hollywood seemed to continue with the announcement that DC Comics’ popular supervillain team-up series “Suicide Squad” was headed for the big screen under the guidance of “Sherlock Holmes” producer Dan Lin.

Featuring an ever-changing cast of DC villains forced to fulfill missions for a covert government agency (and often dying in the course of doing so), the “Suicide Squad” series that debuted in 1986 was created by veteran comics writer John Ostrander. I spoke with Ostrander after the recent movie deal announcement to get his thoughts on what a “Suicide Squad” movie should involve — and whether the creator of the team will have a hand in their big-screen debut.

The well-known “Batman,” “Spectre,” “GrimJack” and current “Star Wars: Legacy” comics writer told MTV News that he had only learned of the movie deal that morning, courtesy of the same report that broke the news to the general public. However, he was more than happy to offer up some thoughts on the characters that any faithful adaptation of the “Suicide Squad” series should include on the team’s roster.

“I think that [government liaison to the team] Amanda Waller is a necessity,” said Ostrander. “Ditto for Deadshot, Rick Flag, Bronze Tiger, Nightshade, and the original Captain Boomerang.”

While such a lineup of might seem like a tall order, it’s worth noting that none of these characters have appeared in any of DC/Warner Bros’ prior movies — so they could avoid the troubles normally associated with recasting roles. As far as his involvement in the project, Ostrander told MTV that he hasn’t been contacted at this point, but “that doesn’t necessarily mean I won’t in the future (or I will).”

Yet, even with the rights secured, that doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed to see Ostrander’s team of unwilling heroes on the big screen — but the popular creator remains optimistic.

“I wish them luck,” said Ostrander. “Having a Squad movie (or several) would be a kick and I think the concept, well executed, would work like gangbusters. I’m full of hope for it.”
