WB's 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' original script by J.K. Rowling - Part 1

Going to see it this Tuesday. The trailers haven't hyped me at all, but as a Potter fan I'm hoping for the best.

Utterly depressing news. I know Yates made WB a lot of money with Potter but his films are so bland and boring. Visually they look like BBC TV dramas which is not a surprise because that's how he got into the business.

And I hate most of the choices he made with harry potter 5-7. Deathly hallows part 2 was so underwhelming, especially the final battle. And he made voldermort way to cartoony. It's funny how much scarier he was in the first harry potter film.

The first three harry potter movies are my favorites. Really dislike the David Yates ones. Honestly the movies 5-7 are only competent because Yates had good source material. The legend of Tarzan was bad because he had no good source material to fall back on.

Yeah well unlike with the Potter films he isn't adapting 600+ page books into 2 hour films and Rowling is writing the scripts instead of Kloves. So these are different beasts (no pun intended) than the Potter films.

My ranking of the films, just for reference:

1. Prisoner of Azkaban
2. Order of the Phoenix
3. Deathly Hallows Part 1
4. Sorcerer's Stone
5. Chamber of Secrets
6. Goblet of Fire
7. Deathly Hallows Part 2
8. Half-Blood Prince

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks DHP1 was alot better than Pt. 2

For the life of me I don't understand how Dh part 2 has a 96 RT score. I remember being so underwhelmed when I first saw it. Just imagine what a good director could have done with that movie.

Yeah. Part 1 feels much more like a complete movie to me then Part 2. And Part 2 fumbles quite a bit imo. Still love them all though.

The last part, that didn't completely fumble it. Basically a reward for the entire series imo.

My personal rankings
1. Goblet of Fire (my favorite book too)
2. Deathly Hallows Pt. 1
3. Prisoner of Azkaban
4. Chamber of Secrets
5. Sorcerer's Stone
6. Deathly Hallows Pt. 2
7. Order of the Phoenix
8. Half Blood Prince

Agreed.

HP is one of the few film series that I dont think has a "bad" installment. They're all pretty enjoyable at the least.

Yeah, there is no Attack of the Clones here. Plenty to enjoy in all of them.

Nowhere near Attack of the Clones or Phantom Menace level, but I do think the first two films are far weaker than the rest.

I really like the first two. I feel like they match the tone and look of the books more so then the other films. Also like the warmth of them.

The first two are the closest "modern" films I've seen that match that classic, 80s Spielberg charm and warmth. The John Williams score helps a lot in that sense.

Williams aid to the first three films can't be understated imo. And you are right, thos two definitely have a ET/Goonies feel.

The score is definitely great in them, but aside from that I find them rather bland and somewhat lacking in terms of imagination compared to the books. Prisoner of Azkaban and the later films do a much better job of building a living, breathing magical world.

The later films also do a better job of staying focused on the actual plot as opposed to getting distracted with boring side stories like the Quidditch stuff.

Working on memory

1. Chamber of Secrets
2. Philosophers Stone
3. Goblet of Fire

I don't really remember the rest, but I know those were the three I liked the most.
