You are such a character, Airwings. Suggesting Rosie O' Donnel based on potential casting choices from 12 years ago is a hoot.
I'm a big persona :)
What could be wrong with casting somebody that was in talks ages before?
Dalton waited 18 years to play 007, just to mention an example. He considered himself too young in 1969.

Too young, yes. But there have also been actors that were up for certain roles, but happened to be too old instead. Have you guys heard about the possible "Gabriel Thomson as Harry Potter"?

Maybe he should actually play Newt in this film. This way, he will finally be a lead character in Rowling's universe. "Better late than never!" :)
I think it's a very good idea, actually. But does all the guys here at the board think so?

Could A Quidditch Movie Be On The Way?
A film about the history of this dangerous sport? Why not, if they show how Quidditch came to be all those centuries ago. .
Just like several of the games in the Olympic tournament, I think it the very origin of Quidditch comes from the battlefield. In ancient times, there was a big war. Wizards, witches, sorcerers, necromancers etc and whatever they were, fought each other. Maybe over some piece of land (=nation?) or some treasure (magic object) they wanted to get their hands on.
Perhaps the snitch is what represent this thing?
But I don't know really. I haven't checked up on the history of Quidditch. I'm just guessing.

I'm really intrigued by this whole idea. Basically what getting from reading this is that the film will be about the books author, who's a dude that's fascinated with magical creatures and will go out trying to document them.

So he's basically a magical Indiana Jones, who's fascinated with creatures instead of artifacts. You shoot the film in that kind of style and it could be awesome.

So in that sense, Speilberg could be a great choice.

Spielberg would be awesome to have.
'
Oh, and no Rosie. Let her just stick to the Flinstones franchise.

Ben Hibon is my last director suggestion for now. He did the animated part of Deathly Hallows, and should be on the short list to to this film.
Hibon have visited this world before and that could be to his advantage.

As for actors, could Harry Eden or Jamie Bell suit Newt Scamander?

Well it's almost like wanting to cast the actors who auditioned for Han Solo back in the day to have a role for Episode 7. It's not going to happen, especially we don't know the context of the new films. So blindly suggesting Rosie O' Donall is counter-intiative thinking.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service - The Living Daylights, 18 years.

Rosie in anything is doubtful at this point. She hasn't been popular since her talk show ended, and her stint on The View earned her a negative reputation. Not sure WB would touch her. Although, tons of people have made comebacks in the entertainment industry.

Maybe?

With Bond is that it was for the same role. Though if you want to compare a similar situation, there's when Henry Cavill lost to Brandon Routh during the Superman Returns auditions.

My thing with the Rosie thing, no offense to Airwing, is to blindly throw her name into the hat for this movie.

We don't know who's going to be in the movie. Her only slight relation to Harry Potter is that she was consider for a role in the series 12 years ago. That's it.

Don't hang yourselves up on Rosie too much. Didn't you see I was suggesting actor for the lead? :)

Other than Gabriel Thomson, I think Newt can be played by Jamie Bell, Freddie Highmore or Thomas Sangster.
If you prefer a more low profile actor, then either Rollo Weeks, Frank Dillane or Harry Eden.

Just as a note, Cavill was never put forward for Superman Returns. For Flyby, though, both auditioned in that big plastic McG suit, and he was going to pick Cavill before it was shut down.

You do realize that the character of Newt will most likely be a grown man...Right?

He's born 1897 and the film will take place in the 1920s, so he will be in his 20s and all my suggestions are within that age range :)
Do you prefer a 40 year aged man to play him?

Cuaron Could Return To Harry Potter?

By Garth Franklin Saturday November 23rd 2013 01:45PM
Of all the "Harry Potter" films, the third one "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" arguably remains the favorite of many. That film's director, Alfonso Cuaron, has since gone on to even greater things including the recent megahit "Gravity".
Years ago, Cuaron was originally offered the fourth Potter film "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" to direct, but ultimately declined. Cuaron didn't come back for any of the further sequels, and so with that franchise over it looked like that was that.
Now, Cuaron has revealed that he might be open to return to the series to direct the upcoming "Harry Potter" spin-off/prequel "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" currently in the works. He tells Vulture:
"'Azkaban' was fun to make, and when I did it, I was invited to do the next one, but I didn't want to overstay the welcome, because it was such an experience. But now? Why not? I do have stuff that I want to do [next], but a JK thing... They haven't called me yet! They haven't decided to invite me! Looking forward! At least to see it, because nobody's invited me"

He certainly sounds very interested. Would love to see Cuaron return to the franchise

My top picks for Newt just based on his age range: Robbie Kay and Freddie Highmore.

Who's the Rosie you're all talking about?

Lord,

Rosie O' Donnell. Why? Because she was considered for a role back in 1999/2000 for the first Harry Potter, and randomly was brought up here for casting selection for 'Fantastic Beasts'.

For what role? Who knows because we don't know the basic information for the roles or story for this movie. That's why it's so silly to bring her up in the first place. That and she's irrelevant. It's liking bringing up Pauly Shore randomly into a discussion.

Would be good, but why not other directors that never did Harry Potter? Just to get a different style and separate "Beasts" as much as possible to the Potters? I suggest Gilliam and others.

Kind of agree :)
How about Thomson, Weeks, Eden, Bell, Mosely, Keynes etc?

Haven't you already told us that you think it was silly and way too random to suggest Rosie? :woot:

Who would have thought the legend who popularized the phrase "Munch on some grindage" would fade away? It's tragic.

Would be amazing to have Cuaron back. Azkaban is still my favourite. Any idea when this will hit theaters? Or atleast when we'll start getting news about it?

It would be awesome to have Cuaron back.

In all honesty, there are far better candidates than Rosie O'Donnell who are in that age/American bracket: Susanna Thompson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Linda Hamilton, and Kim Basinger, Ellen Degeneres, to name a few.

Selecting O'Donnell is scraping the bottom of the rust-coated bottom of the bucket.

Glad to see Cuaron interested, Azkaban was one of the best in the series.
