WB's 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' original script by J.K. Rowling

I'd love to see Cuaron return to this universe, but its highly unlikely. I also wouldn't expect any fan favorite directors. WB didn't do that with the Harry Potter films (Columbus, Cuaron, Newell, and Yates) so I wouldn't expect them to hire someone movie geek approved this time either. The director will be an unexpected choice. The only geek approved director likely to be a slim possibility is Guillermo Del Toro. He was offered POA and HBP but turned down both due to scheduling. Perhaps this time he would give it a go. A Del Toro movie set in the HP universe makes my mouth water.

If this is a November 2015 release like some are speculating then del Toro won't do it, since Crimson Peak is out that year too. If it's a 2016 release then MAYBE but I wouldn't hold out too much hope

I actually suggested jean-Pierre jeunet a page or two back, I would lose control of my faculties with joy if he got the gig. Amilie is one of my favorite movies ever made and he is such a master at capturing that fantasy/ fairy tale tone even in a modern setting.
Agree that he will be a great choice, yes :)

What do you think about Reiner, Weir or Reitman?

I don't want him to return. Neither do I want Columbus, Newell or Yates. I prefer directors that haven't adapted the Potter universe.

Del Toro will be great. But after he turned down two of the films, he then wanted to make one of the later films (HBP, maybe). And was rejected.

Idk about rob Reiner, he's seems to be at home directing romantic comedies. Even the princess bride works more so for its comedy rather then it's fantasy elements. As for peter weir I've only seen Truman show which i really liked, but I don't know. And Ivan reitman hasn't made a good movie since the early nineties IMO. All three seem kind of random.

Rob Reiner has not directed a great movie since the 90's. No to him.

(Yes I know that he directed something a few years ago that was decent but yeah, his track record isn't good anymore.)

Rupert after all is doing almost everything it seems. everything..and nothing.

Ian McKellen, Richard Attenborough and Peter O'Toole should play old wizards in this film. Too bad Bob Hoskins is no longer with us. He could have worked too.

Other actors I wanna see being cast are Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson, Billy Connolly, Audrey Tatou, Ray Winston, Carole Bouquet and Naomi Watts.

NOTE: Bob Hoskins is still alive! But his eye sight is diminishing so he's practically blind now. :(

Maybe I didn't hear reports on his passing, after all
Glad the man is still with us :)

Peter O'Toole and Bob Hoskins are both retired unfortunately. Attenborough could be cool. I'd like to see Morgan Freeman as well, but I want to see Morgan Freeman in everything.

What about those who was up for the first Harry Potter, but did not end up in director's chair (for different reasons): Steven Spielberg and Terry Gilliam.

When WB expand the Potter universe and explore the american side of the wizarding world, then they could probably work.

Steven Spielberg is somebody who i think most would like to see comic books films or tackle other known film properties like Star Wars or Harry Potter, but nobody ever mentions him for the obvious reason that he would most likelly turn the chance down, is too expensive and studios may not want somebody who may make the film too much his oun.

To a certain degree, it's good for all adaptions to be their own thing and not exactly as something else in the genre, or exactly like the book, or comic book.

But it shouldn't be overdone. Too much is always too much :)

The same goes for James Cameron, and probably Ridley Scott and Peter Jackson too.
One of them tackling a DC hero, or even Justice League, would be amazing beyond words.

Spielberg needs to direct one superhero flick before he retires. Honestly I'd like him to direct Namor or Aquaman because I feel he'd bring the epic nature to it. Plus they'll both have that little life lesson about respecting nature and ****.

If Steven Spielberg can't do it then perhaps Señor Spielbergo is another option.

Steven Spielberg cannot be hired. He conceives projects and then makes them. He hires script writers and all.

So you can't hire Spileberg to direct a film.

I believe that when Spielberg was attached to Sorcerer's Stone, he wanted to move Hogwarts to the US and make a few other changes that Rowling didn't like.

I like Spielberg but yeah, that would lose the cultural identity of Potter and his world. Or at least, the world being present in his books.

Oh you guys and your silly ideas for who will be hired to direct this movie. :funny:

Considering that this movie will be set in NY, by Rowling's own words, Spielberg wouldn't be that bad a choice.

Pretty much. It's more or less gonna have an amalgamation of nationalities in NYC, so any number of guys could direct it.
