A trilogy!? Is it too much to ask for to have three different directors then, all bringing they own style?
Then I would want Gilliam and Jeunet as possible choices :)

Gilliam will never do a mainstream movie again. He tends to goes over budget, but heads with the studio, he's too unconventional, and it looks God hates him due to his bad luck.

But still, a film like this one will benefit having him onboard.

Terry Gilliam is just too damn strange. Same with Juenet.

Alfonso Cuaron said that he'd like to direct one of these spinoff films. I vote for bringing him back. Questionable adaption choices aside, he was the only director that got the universe right imo. Columbus was too kiddy, but it fit the first two books. Newell was all cheese and bollywood. Yates stipped all the magical feeling and made Hogwarts bland as ****. A bunch of blank stone walls.

Cuaron could make this universe fun and quirky again.

I hadn't heard that, but he'd have my vote. His style was pretty much perfect for the Potterverse, imo.

I just wonder what kind of story there is here.

Here is what Cuaron had to say:

"Akzaban was fun to make, and when I did it, I was invited to do the next one, but I didn’t want to overstay the welcome, because it was such an experience. But now? Why not? I do have stuff that I want to do [next], but a J.K. thing …”

“They haven’t called me yet! They haven’t decided to invite me! Looking forward! At least to see it, because nobody’s invited me."

As for the plot, not a clue. JK is writing the scripts so that is reassuring at least.

Nice, thanks for the link.

Hope they reach out to him again (which seems like a decent possibility since JKR loves him). Although now that he's got an Oscar under his belt I'm guessing he's a bit more expensive these days, lol.

Itd be money well spent and give the new trilogy mad credibility. Cuaron directing and the author herself writing the script, thats something to be very proud of. Im curious what they are paying Rowling. She cant be cheap.

I still like my earlier suggestion of Spike Jonze, but I'm all for Cuaron coming back if he wants.

Id be over the moon if Cuaron came back to the Potter verse.

The cinematic universe Rowling created for us is damn strange :)

Gilliam and Jeunet could too.

Cuaron's strange and quirky POA isn't silly. Gilliam is just silly and not in the good way. I know he has his fans but I despise the man's style and his films. Its just dumb and visually over the top and weird. Rowling wanted him for PS and thank god it didnt happen cause it wouldnt have been the break out success it was and we'd probably have gotten a hogwarts populated with characters from a shrooms trip. The Harry Potter universe is strange, but it isn't that strange.

Juenet has made some wonderful french films, but the last time he took on an english franchise he butchered it. And if Im not mistake that experience soured him on the hollywood studio systemso I wouldnt expect Juenet to direct. I think a snowball has a better chance in hell.

Other than Cuaron I would like for them to offer one of the films to Del Toro. He's got a ridiculously full schedule tho and has turned down two films (POA and HBP) so im not sure he'd do it. I know he'd love to tho. He's mentioned how much he regrets that his schedule wouldnt allow him to do one of the films. So maybe just maybe if the stars align he'd find time for one of these new films.

Terry Gilliam is a genius, imo, at least as talented as Del Toro if not more so. And I think Juenet deserves another shot at Hollywood as well...but something that better fits his sensibilities than the Alien franchise (I do think Potter would qualify there). That said, I feel like Cuaron's style is the most perfect for this universe we could get.

With Airwings, I'm not dismissing Terry's genius. But he's also a guy who doesn't work well at all with the Hollywood system. I mean, he did in the 90's but that was it.

This much I agree with. As talented as Gilliam is, he and Hollywood don't mix. And I think at this point, he knows that, so he wouldn't be up for this anyway.

I love The Fisher King. My favorite Gilliam film.

Really wouldn't be shocked if Rowling's involvement in the new movies propels her to write another HP book.

God I hope so! The harry potter verse is too big and too rich to not do more books.

Id also like her to finish the harry potter encyclopdia.

Potter's story is done. But if you're talking about spinoffs, for sure.

Cuaron is my first choice but what's wrong with Mike Newell ? I thought that Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire was decent.

He was fine. I won't hold Prince of Persia against him. Or should I?
