This is not what I wanted but it could be worse. I don't want this to feel like Yates' Potter films though, so hopefully it won't. Fantastic Beasts needs to look and feel more colorful and fun than the last three Potter novels in my opinion.

Thats the only concern I have. Yates's hogwarts was practically monochramatic and felt so lifeless. I want these films to pop and be colorful and well have that magical flair.

I want a return to the warm colors that we got in PS and COS.

I think what Yates did in the last four films worked for the books but I agree, I would love to return a tone similar to the first two films.

On a side note, I would loved to have seen someone like Wes Anderson or Spike Jonze take on the series.

I think Columbus worked when they were kids, he gave it that Home Alone empowerment vibe.

Wes Anderson could make a very charming film in this universe, but I dont think WB is that brave and Wes is not everyones cup of tea. Plus he doesnt seem like the type to direct a film in a franchise. I would watch it tho. I love his style, and his Grand Budapest Hotel is one of my favorite films of 2014.

It definitely would have been a risk and big blockbusters aren't his thing to begin with. But I wonder how it would have turned out. Especially after seeing Grand Budapest, his take on Rowling's wizarding world just sounds fascinating.

I had major issues with part 5 and 6, especially part 6.

They were brave enough to hire Alfonso Cuaron who delivered the best of all the movies.

Alfonso Cuaron isn't Wes Anderson.

So Yates is essentially the Potter version of Bond's John Glen.

It's certainly good that someone of Yates quality is making this. I'll be waiting for footage or pics to see what direction this goes in.

My reaction to this is the exact same as when Yates was announced for Deathly Hallows: While I would have loved for Alfonso to come back, Yates makes for a pretty darn good Alfonso substitute, so I'm happy with this choice.

While I love both films, I had more problems with 5 rather than 6. Especially the whole grawp subplot could have been avoided altogether. And a lot happens in the book yet I believe it's the shortest film in the series.

The only problem with 6 that I had was the lack of the memories. They wouldn't have changed the movie but nevertheless it would have nice to see them in live-action. And I am going to be in the minority here, but I though the comedy worked really well, even with eerie atmosphere that was pretty much throughout the movie. It's always nice to see characters acting like real people in these type of big stories. Lastly, I loved the soundtrack, I would put right behind PS

6's biggest problem is the cinematography and the source material. Though getting rid of the memories kind of misses the point of the book, it wasn't the biggest problem. HBP is a complete setup book, the only one in the series. I am still not sure why they cut some of the few really cool things they filmed, like Dumbledore's "I'm with your Harry".

OotP is the second best film in the series imo. Behind of course PoA. It has a laser focus without shrinking the world. PoA and OotP could compose the textbook for how to adapt a book to film.

I love Order of the Phoenix.
:highfive:

With Yates, I feel like he made two very good films in OotP and DH1, one incomplete film in DH2 and one okay film in HBP. I really feel like either OotP or DH1 are the most underrated films in the series.

The positive thing about Yates is that he knows the world AND he knows how to handle the franchise, be it preproduction or post.

His post work results into much good stuff on the cutting room floor for my taste.
