Obscure source, to be sure, but in a July 15th podcast called ‘The Fighter and The Kid’ host Brian Callen* (a journeyman actor and comedian who has appeared in many many Television programs and movies over the last twenty years) was speaking about how difficult it is to make a living as an actor in Hollywood over the course of a long career and how networking is essential, but can’t always be relied on.

As an example he recalled auditioning for a role in Wonder Woman in London for the director (not named, though the timing implies Patty Jenkins) a friend he’s known ‘for his whole adult life’ and how he never even heard back from her following the audition. He mentioned that Chris Pine was present, along with "a couple of other really famous actors like CATE BLANCHETT".

This obviously isn’t official confirmation, and you can’t discount the possibility that he may be misspeaking and is referring to the other famous/super talented Cate/Kate Kate Winslet, but this is definitely something more tangible than a rumour.

I remember his podcast with Jenkins too. They seemed like really good friends. It's too bad if he is upset that she didn't call him to tell him he didn't get the part. Maybe she found it too difficult to break the news to a friend.

Can we get a time-stamp from the appropriate episode? I looked up the podcast and there is no July 15th episode. On a whim I clicked on the July 14th one which did have a small talk about failing/succeeding in the industry (around the 55 minute mark), but Wonder Woman or Jenkins were never mentioned.

Admittedly I haven't listened to everything so there's always the chance I missed it, but I'd like something more concrete before getting too excited.​

Hah, that's insane bad luck. I literally skipped that part in my link in no more than 3 seconds because the other guy started talking and I figured the topic was done with.

It's so off-the-cuff I have to believe it's true. Though I think this would only confirm Cate only has been in talks, not necessarily part of the cast just yet. Though I imagine someone of her stature would have to have been secured at that point.

It seems the guy was dating Patty Jenkins for 9 years, and was pictured with her in June ... so he probably knew more than he probably should have said on this podcast.

I don't care if I get hate... I am not for Cate to be in this. For one... I just don't see the Queen of the Amazons in Cate (that's just my own biases true). Second... After Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull I get the feeling that in pop-corn type genre work Cate is the kind of actress that tends to go unsubtle in such projects. She's an amazing actress, but after KOTCS I am not sure I want to see her in too many action heavy tent pole crowd pleasers. Sue me.
