World Web shooter shop class - Part 1

To Marvel: Sure, how about tomorrow.

To nolder: here's how you pressurize a pressure vessel. There is a fluid entry port. You pour the fluid into it and seal it up. Next there is an air intake valve, a form of check valve. Finally, there is a third port, a release valve. You need all three in a sealed container.

ah I see

So really, we need three valves on the pressure vessel, unless the air intake valve and fluid entry port are one and the same. But either way, which valve would you connect the pressure vessel to the fluid line(tube) and coupler.

There is a special type of coupler that I use. It's called a quick connect coupler.

Hey guys I'm new here and you guys really know what you are talking about and that's very cool. I don't want to get off topic here but I'm really fascinated in the web shooter and I was wondering if you could give me a list of the materials you would need to try to make one? And how much would the material cost? Thanks guys and white-widow... You are really smart and your the reason I joined so I can discuss this topic with you and everyone else. Oh and I'm not that smart as everyone on here so go easy on me haha :P
Thanks guys! Dont give up!

Welcome human spider. For a list of materials, it really depends on what kind of web shooter you want. for example, if you want a water shooter, I highly recommend this one.

http://kidavalanche.wordpress.com/2009/03/15/make-an-electric-water-gun/ (Thanks to Nolder for finding that)

However, let's say you want to use a polymer (webbing). That means that you have a viscosity issue, so you have to up the pressure.

That's where you get my post on page 18 where I talk about the basic components.

To start this off, it really depends on what valve you decide to use. In complete honesty, the entire project hinges on that valve.

There are push button valves, tilt valves, solenoid valves, aerosol valves, etc. Once you pick a valve that you want, then we can build everything around it with parts from either home depot or Lowe's. Actually, any old home improvement store will work. There will be a few parts to get online. the cost of this project other than the fluid will be similar to a high end potato cannon.

Also, as a matter of intelligence, you don't have to worry about a thing. I'm not really all that smart. I just excel at using google and imagination. Imagination is more important than fact knowing any day.

EDIT: especially since you can fact check with google.

Could we hook the battery with another battery to power an electrospinning device if we use one?
And will electrospinning work, because earlier you said it would.

Electrospinning is possible if you use a transformer to increase the voltage in you battery into kilovolts. Remember, a solenoid valve's only job is to move a plunger so that fluid could escape. The spinneret itself or spinneret apparatus (if you are making anything more than a disk with holes) is a separate entity. I've personally chosen to stay away from electrospinning for now. The reason is that water needs to be heated to evaporate, and the fibers are too small when electrospun. It does however impart amazing properties in the field of strength. It's all based on what you want.

If you're going to use electrospinning, the circuit is something like a battery, an oscillator, a transformer, then a diode. There might be a capacitor in there.( I haven't looked at circuits lately).

yeah. I mean that just seems like a lot of extra planning. There would have to be at least 24v in there without a heating system.

Yep, just a little more planning, get a taser take it apart, and get 8 3v batteries to make it small, but I don't think you really need electrospinning.

Right, a really easy way of making the plate on which the spinneret outlets are mounted would be to cut a circular PCB. I am drawing up a schematic for this as we speak, so anyone who wants to test it using this can do so assuming they can make PCBs fairly easily.

Edit: Here you go. I also included the design for a way of rotating the board without losing the contact or the webbing pressure. Just an example with six positive outlets.

Sorry its sideways, I forgot to rotate it.

Hey White_Widow! I am now also joining this thread, so if anyone can tell where we are at right now I would really appreciate it! :yay:

I have. It currently does not support humans to "hang" on it. But after adding components from an epoxy, it DEFINITELY will. Will the webs be retractable like mine? I used a vacuum technology to do that... : D

Can anyone out there Can you give me an example of a coupler pressure vessel, a and a valve? I have a bunch of questions! So please give me some answers thx!!

If I were to use CO2 Cartridges, then how would I use them since they are sealed up? If I tear the cap ... BOOM

How would I heat the spinneret or the place where the fluid leaves to dry spin

Nolder: haha that is true!

Spider-phantom: could you post pics of your shooter please? I would like to get an Idea of a design.

Hey I am now gonna join this thread. I see everyone familiar. How do I post my design??? As a picture? Ill post my design

Anyway, has anyone ever thought of making there own valve that attaches to the pressure vessel (CO2 Cartridge) using a few nuts and bots??? And how would I puncture the CO2 can to let the air stop at the nut with out putting my eye out?

My Design... I am sorry if it doesnt make

http://msaleem.deviantart.com/#/d56x5np

There is a block of something blocking the co2 from mixing with the fluid in the cartridge which is an aerosol type thing. there is also one blocking it from the nozzle and so it doesnt heat up. the trigger will be pushed down and the aerosol blocking valves holes will line up with the copper tubes to let everything mix and shoot. The problem is, will the CO2 pressure stay when its waiting outside the first aerosol block?
Please leave comments I really need someone to help me out like WW or Spider Phantom or nolder. Well you get the idea.
