WW - Oh I see, wow that was kind of stupid of me. But then what is a good adhesive? Or will contact cement's adhesive be good enough?

Don't you see that as a problem? Polyurethane reacts with water.

Well i'm not exactly trying to hold 200lbs, atleast 30? More if possible! Will a good amount of contact cement hold that. Obviously contact cement by itself will, but since its mixed with a few other fluids, I though the strength might decrease. Oh and what about the stickyness? Will it still be pretty sticky?

Yeah, I guess it could theoretically hold about 20-25 maybe 30 pounds.

you kidding? at least 80 pounds if properly formulated. Remember, we are using a resin that is designed specifically to bond to cement AND imitate duct tape, which can hold a car with 100 strips. The adhesive held more than the tensile strength. Maybe on steel or anything but cement less, but we're going for AT LEAST 80.

if we could theoretically make special types of webbing to bond to cement, glass ect, would a glass adhesive be weaker in strength?

wow wait so 80 pounds?!? does that mean if we made thicker or more strands and we were able to increase the surface area the web covers on an object it hits, it would be able to hold more?

Just cement. We'll use PVA in the formula, whether it's to create fibers or as a tackifier. It bonds to cement easily. Glass, there's no reason to warrant that. As for the second question, yeah. More contact area gives you a stronger bond.

I personally wanna hold at least 120lbs, and please no one comment on how that is impossible or something, cause i KNOW we are gonna get there.
Is anyone else gonna use neoprene? I thought it was a really good addition!

yes, but I'm sure you could cover the PVC with something to prevent that.

Ok, I've added maple syrup to the formula to make it more sticky and it works great. Just wait a few seconds after contact, then pull, it holds on pretty strong
PVC CAN be dissolved in Accetone
Neoprene, smart choice
But there's this one hint in the back of my head that keeps bothering me
Remember Bill Mays or something, the Oxy Clean guy?
Remember he advertised stuff called mighty putty?
Because I want to reverse engineer it to take its stickiness properties...
That stuff could pul 2000 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!
It could definitely be used to, you know, swing a body... : D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yah, I know that's epoxy -.-. But I don't think you understand what I'm trying to pull off here. That's just the putty we see. But it is one heck strong adhesive. Did I say 2000 pounds, I meant 18.000 pounds. If a truck is falling, web it and it will be fine, if only we were strong enough. . I'm talking about reverse engineering it to get the adhesive properties out. It will stick to anything AND support human weight!!!!!!!!! I'm going to go research I more...

question. why do you want to keep your web mixture and your webshooter a secret until it is "perfect"? If what you said before was true, you have a great webshooter. granted, theres always room for improvement, you could post what problems you have and we can work together to find solutions for you.

let me just make a side note. and when I'm saying this, it is not with the intention of picking on you spider-phantom or any one person. I realize I myself have not been here long compared to those who have been here for years. But I have noticed a slow change in the culture of these forums. when I joined, most of the posts were bringing something to the table. When we came across something on the internet, we would share it and everyone would give their opinions. Big and small ideas were shared. The attitude has slowly shifted toward "tell me what the super secret web formula", and "tell me how to build a web shooter". It's changed from a team effort to whats the best for me. It's gone from give to take. There's many more ways for me to say it but I think you get the idea. And If you do have the power to contribute positively to the group, it is your responsibility to do so .

and to Msal: No one has responded to you yet on the other thread because you didn't really say anything. you just said you were joining that thread... It's kinda hard to respond to that.

Yes, but alas, the maple syrup didn't work quite right with the retraction of the webbing and the vacuum of the webbing used to retract it caught on fire. : (
I put it out and I already replaced the vacuum part and have reassembled the shooter. Like I said in my previous post, the one prior to my previous post, in fact, my webbing is basically your webbing, all the webbing discussed on this post except with a little bit of twists and turns of my own. I really wish to keep it concealed, not for myself, but because it's kind of dangerous if you use the chemicals I'm using and I really wish I doesn't bother you. I it will make you feel any better, I will have a full tutorial on how to create it in September. I'm so sore if this bothers you. ; (. My web shooter is basically electrospinning and vacuum parts. It can only shoot up to like 30 feet right now. Once again, I'm sorry if you feel this way and to everybody else, I am also very sorry. Please don't think I'm selfish. I want everyone to have one. Please don't let this effect the progress. I am now upset. ; (.
