Illegal Cancer-Causing Chemicals Found in Nearly 100 Well-Known Shampoo Brands

The Center for Environmental Health based in Oakland, California, performed a study on shampoos and soaps and found that 98 included a possible carcinogen known as cocamide diethanolamine (cocamide DEA).

Cocamide DEA is a chemically modified form of coconut oil that is used as a thickener or foaming agent in shampoo. However, the state of California has outlawed its use, because it may be carcinogenic to humans. The CEH is suing companies producing and distributing these products, including Prell, Paul Mitchell and Colgate Palmolive shampoos. Also included are products marketed to children, and even one which falsely claims to be organic

Jerk Honey Bees Sting Texas Man 1,000 Times

dve5hsn2vey1yztmkio4.jpg

**** bees, seriously.

The AP reports that a Wichita Falls, Texas street department worker was recently stung about 1,000—one thousand!—times by Africanized honey bees while mowing the lawn of a tennis center. The bees also attacked two of his co-workers while they attempted to save him from his bee nightmare:

[Spokesman Barry] Levy says two co-workers also were stung when they came to the man's aid. One worker fled into a nearby tennis center, bringing the swarm with him.

How dare those bees force that human into looking like a human cartoon! The AP reports that the tennis center, a nearby trail, and part of a golf course will remain closed until personnel can confirm that the Satan bees have returned to hell.

All of the men were hospitalized and are, to the presumed chagrin of those jerk bees, currently in good condition.

That sounds horrible, I hope he gets a bonus for that.

I'm thinking that should be moved to the conspiracy thread.

But then, it wouldn't attract the attention it deserves. And besides, what's the conspiracy behind it? :o

That they all worship lucifer is enough by itself.

That they all worship lucifer is enough by itself.

Well we can ignore that one :o
You gotta admit though. There is a cultish mentality and shady activities going on those super rich families. They 're not exactly your average friendly neighbours.
I wouldn't rule out a Lucifer worship, but I can't say for sure though until I see that with my own eyes.

The men who crashed the world

The first of a four-part investigation into a world of greed and recklessness that led to financial collapse.

In the first episode of Meltdown, we hear about four men who brought down the global economy: a billionaire mortgage-seller who fooled millions; a high-rolling banker with a fatal weakness; a ferocious Wall Street predator; and the power behind the throne.

The crash of September 2008 brought the largest bankruptcies in world history, pushing more than 30 million people into unemployment and bringing many countries to the edge of insolvency. Wall Street turned back the clock to 1929.

But how did it all go so wrong?

Lack of government regulation; easy lending in the US housing market meant anyone could qualify for a home loan with no government regulations in place.

Also, London was competing with New York as the banking capital of the world. Gordon Brown, the British finance minister at the time, introduced 'light touch regulation' - giving bankers a free hand in the marketplace.

All this, and with key players making the wrong financial decisions, saw the world's biggest financial collapse.

40 Of The Most Powerful Social Issue Ads That’ll Make You Stop And Think

Many people complain about advertisements as an obnoxious way for companies to invade our everyday lives and cram their products down our throats, but that’s not all that advertisements are good for. The advertisements on this list are excellent examples of effective advertising strategies for social issue campaigns that let their voices be heard.
A well-made advertisement is designed to grab your attention and to remain in your memory long after you’ve left it behind, and that is exactly what many of these social causes need. Getting people to think and worry about various social and environmental issues (or even simply getting them to be aware of them) is important for raising public supporting and affecting meaningful changes. A few of these ads are, in fact, commercial ads, but it’s still nice that they champion socially or environmentally aware causes/products.
Just like with commercial advertisements, having just the facts is not enough. They are important, but the ad must also appeal to the observer’s emotions. Many studies have indicated that emotion can have a powerful effect on memory formation, ensuring that memories with emotion will last longer than those without.
According to “Father of Advertising” David Ogilvy, his contemporary, Howard Gossage, said that “advertising justifies its existence when used in the public interest—it is much too powerful a tool to use solely for commercial purposes.” We definitely agree, which is why we wanted to share this list of social cause advertisements with you!

I'm debating the killing 90% of the population stuff, but I'd buy the rest. Maybe not the Lucifer one either.

Oh, yeah I forgot about the depopulation stuff :). I guess that's also implausible cause fewer people means fewer consumers = less profit for the rich and that's not in their benefit :woot:

Rare Lightning Storm Kills One, Injures 13 in Los Angeles

ujhmtfxxzhrmptrkvefq.jpg

A lightning strike in Venice Beach, Los Angeles yesterday killed a 20-year-old man and injured 13 others, one critically. Firefighters believe lightning struck the ocean and spread through the water, ABC reports.

The strike hit L.A., where lightning is relatively rare, at around 2:30 p.m., and was unannounced by typical signs of a coming storm, according to witnesses. Stuart Archer, who was playing volleyball on the beach, told ABC:

"We went about our game and then all of a sudden, there was a big flash of light and a boom, and it felt like someone punched me in the back of my head. It went down my whole side of my right body, and my calves sort of locked up, and I fell over. And I looked up and everybody else was, you know, falling over."

The man who died was found in the water 90 minutes after the strike and taken to the hospital, where he later passed away. Among the injured was a 15-year-old boy.

Several other lightning strikes were reported in Southern California yesterday. A man playing golf on Santa Catalina Island was hit by lightning around 12:30 p.m. and is now in stable condition, and lightning damaged three to four homes in Redondo Beach.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti offered his condolences last night:

Amy's and my prayers are with the victims of the lightning strike today at Venice Beach. This tragedy reminds us that we can take nothing for granted or underestimate the power of nature.

Well that sucks, we usually see it coming out here in FL. Never really hear about lighting striking out in Cali

Three-Year-Old Crashes Jeep, Rushes Home to Watch Cartoons

imqpkuqukedlfrzqxur9.jpg

The AP reports that earlier this week a toddler in Oregon climbed into a Jeep, knocked it out of gear, and crashed it into someone's house. Don't worry, though—he got back home in time to watch cartoons.

According to police, who spoke to KPTV, witnesses reported that when the three-year-old managed to knock the Jeep out of gear it was sent "down the street, through an intersection, up over a curb, through a yard, and into a house."

When police found the boy, who was wearing only a diaper for the entire incident, he was at home on his couch, chilling out and watching cartoons as if he hadn't just had a terrifying solo ride in a careening Jeep.

KPTV reports that the family made a "civil compromise" with the homeowner about the damage to the house, and police cited 22-year-old Brennan Pennington, a relative of the tiny Jeep thief, for failing to supervise him.

Please, everyone: watch your babies.

It's crazy what a little kid can get into without trying. I know some regular folks that couldn't get a stick into 1st gear.

^^
Watch your babies and lock your damn door car !
Are gears in Jeeps that easy to pull that a 3 y/o can do it ?

We get a fair amount of lightning in CA during the winter.

I didn't want to make a new thread for this because I don't find it to be all that weird. Lol, waiting for feminists and feminazis to jump all over this.

Women-Only Parking Spots Are Becoming All The Rage

A shopping mall in China has recently unveiled women-only parking spots, marked by pink lines in order to help females who are bad parkers. The spots are about 30 centimeters wider than other spots. The owner of the mall denies that they are meant to imply that women are bad drivers.

I'll take a look. That's kinda been my opinion of it too, but I can't put it past people either. But this is probably a discussion for another thread.

Florida Warns Beachgoers of Flesh-Eating Bacteria in the Water

bxlnfl7cauvdqkzeqim5.jpg

Health officials in Florida today issued new warnings about high levels of a flesh-eating bacterium in the ocean and other recreational waters in the state. The state says that bacterium, Vibrio vulnificus, causes ulceration and rapid skin decay and is fatal in about 50 percent of people who get it in their bloodstreams.

Vibrio "has hospitalized 32 people, and killed ten in Florida, although through a period of years, not all at once," according to the state; however, another report today, focusing on one infected lagoon in South Florida, says there were "41 reported cases of infections from the deadly bacteria last year in Florida, which killed 11 people, including a 59-year old man infected while crabbing in the Halifax River near Ormond Beach."

According to the Broward-Palm Beach New Times, this stuff is no joke:

"A person can contract the virus by eating tainted raw shell fish and oysters," Florida Department of Health Deputy Press Secretary Pamela Crane tells New Times. "And people who swim in seawater who have open wounds are also vulnerable to the bacteria."

The virus can cause vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain, but is especially dangerous with those with a weaker immune system, especially in people with chronic liver disease. Vibrio can get into the bloodstream and cause life-threatening illnesses. Symptoms include fever, chills, a drop in blood pressure and skin lesions...

So basically, if you have a weak immune system, or an open wound, best to avoid the water for now.

The state notes that Vibrio is naturally occurring and tends to flare up in the summer—not unlike other human-caused disease-causing bacteria and viruses (read: poop-related diseases) that have been found in massive concentrations along much of Florida's lightly-regulated coast this summer.

In one instance, a "no" swimming advisory was put into effect in North Florida for enterococci bacteria levels that were 30 times acceptable levels—far higher than the worst readings in the Gowanus Canal after Hurricane Sandy blew through. (The "no" is in quotes because swimming was discouraged but not banned.)

Florida doesn't typically require beach shutdowns for bacteria infestations; in fact, 59 percent of its beaches aren't tested for bacteria levels; the others rely on federal funding to carry out periodical tests. But hey, only the strong survive in a libertarian paradise!

2 Americans Infected as Worst-Ever Ebola Outbreak Spreads in W. Africa

grip26f7f7djwpkgyytx.png

Two American aid workers have contracted the deadly ebola virus in Liberia as the outbreak continues to worsen in West Africa. Over 670 people have died since March in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. NPR reports that the virus has probably now spread to Nigeria.

Patrick Sawyer, a 40-year-old Liberian finance ministry employee, may have infected his fellow air passengers when he flew from Liberia to Nigeria on Friday while vomiting from the virus. CBC News reports:

Witnesses say Sawyer ... was vomiting and had diarrhea aboard at least one of his flights with some 50 other passengers aboard. Ebola can be contracted from traces of feces or vomit, experts say.

Sawyer stopped in Ghana and changed planes in Togo on his way to Nigeria. He was immediately quarantined when he arrived in Lagos.

Both Americans—Dr. Kent Brantly from Texas and Nancy Writebol, a missionary from North Carolina—are still alive in Liberia. Brantly is in "stable condition," but Writebol seems to be doing worse. Her pastor told The Charlotte Observer, "She's not doing well. It's grim news."

There's only a remote chance that the virus could spread to the U.S.

Scary stuff, we really need to do something to help them out before the whole continent gets an outbreak
