I got the hot tub ready and I'm to talk about any film opinions here.

I'll start with this: I watched Rocky last night, and I still love the hell out of that movie. Still my #1 favorite film and I still believe its a better boxing film than Raging Bull.

Awesome!

I saw Rocky recently, for the first time, and I don't know exactly what I was expecting, maybe something much shallower or less involving, but I was really won over by it, by its charm and intelligence and Stallone's and Shire's terrific performances.

Stallone's best performances will always be the Rocky films, especially in the first two where his charm, humor, and emotions really shined.

I definately enjoy ROCKY more than RAGING BULL...the cursing in RB got annoying real quick, so I've only watched it once. I've seen ROCKY a few dozen times.

Plus he's honest. Which is what I love the most about it. Everything about that is so honest. I prefer this over Raging Bull too. This film is just more emotional. Raging Bull is sure a masterpiece, but it doesn't compare to the heart of what Rocky has. Anyone who says it's sentimental crap is just plain cynical. It's a powerful and moving story. Inspirational as well. Stallone was nominated for an Oscar right?

Plus I hope this lounge stays afloat. I started one that flopped. Plus it doesn't makes the last movie watched thread go off topic so many times.

As much as I love the first Rocky, I really hate that it won Best Picture over Network, Taxi Driver, and All the President's Men.

Yeah, among that group, Taxi Driver was the film that deserved Best Picture.

^ As much as I love Rocky, I don't think you can go wrong with that or Taxi Driver. I still feel that Rocky's emotion and memorable dialogue (in which today people would never believe this film was written by Stallone) earned itself Best Picture. I believe that its a truly more entertaining experience watching Rocky and Taxi Driver.

That's not a knock on Network and All The President's Men, but I can watch both Rocky and Taxi Driver over and over again.

Yeah, Rocky didn't deserve it as much as those movies.

I'd probably pick Taxi Driver for Best Picture and Director, but I think I'd still give Network Best Original Screenplay.

^ At least with Rocky there's little argument with it. Rocky is a film that is as good as the other 3 films.

However, Shakespeare in Love winning the over 3 WWII era films (Life is Beautiful, Saving Private Ryan, or The Thin Red Line) to me is still ridiculous.

Wow, that was a great year for movies.

I can't tell you how much I hate that.

The only film among those 1998 BP nominees that I've seen is Saving Private Ryan. I have all of Malick's movies on my Netflix queue, though, so I should get around to The Thin Red Line soon.

Werner Herzog has been in two movies for Zak Penn: Incident at Loch Ness and The Grand. Does anyone else think that's a very unlikely collaboration?

And if you haven't seen The Grand, you must check out Herzog's material from that movie on YouTube. It's gold, Jerry, gold!

Thanks for starting this Parker Wayne!

Funny thing with some of you talking about Rocky. I just finished the Blu-ray boxset today. Until today I've never seen Rocky V or Rocky Balboa. Rocky V wasn't as bad as some make it out to be but it's the weakest of the six. Rocky Balboa was pretty good and I liked how Stallone ended things.

My favorites are still the first one and Rocky IV. As much as I like Rocky II and III, watching him take a beating from a huge roided out Russian and still win in the end was great. Just like the first film, going 15 rounds against the world champ as a nobody and lasting 'til the end.

When you sit down and watch all six films, it's truly great how Stallone made these films almost as one long film about the character and life of Balboa. I also love how he got the same actors to return for their roles, especially Burt Young as Paulie.

The Thin Red Line is great though with Malick's films I still like Days of Heaven a little more.

I've never watched a Warner Herzog film but I always felt I should have.

You're welcome.

I was never a big fan of V for so many reasons. The obvious on being that Stallone doesn't get in the ring. The other huge reason being that the way he goes broke doesn't make any sense. You really don't need to watch V when watch Balboa. The only things they carried over from V was him being middle class and "Home Team".

True. I probably won't watch it again, but the other five I can easily watch again down the road.

Two words: "Tommy Gunn"

:whatever::cmad:

Yeah, that was pretty awful. The guy kind of looked like a *****e from the start as well. One of the few good things about part V was that busty redhead.

I loved bad Mr T in Rocky 3. I've always saw him as someone that stood for justice and then seeing him in that acting like Tyson was surreal.

I love when he gets Rocky pissed off and wanting to fight him when he starts talking to Adrian about coming over his place to see what a real man is like. :awesome:

Haha I love that scene too especially the way he says "Hey Woman!"

So who would win in a match? Clubber Lang or Ivan Drago?
