I know, I know, this has been picked to dead but i just wanted to agree with the haters.......the story is terrible.....it makes little to no sense and the dialogue is awful......

Up until now i had only read one or two issues of the twelve parts, as i thought i would wait for the paperback....

sucky thing is its a hardcover, therefore twice the price.....hmm did marvel perhaps realise they would only sell half as many as usual and therefore by releasing one a book that was twice the price they would still make the money they expected?(or needed?)

Anyways back to the story:

its such a shame how much they killed.....i mean theres a good idea in there somewhere....they could have made it so the whole "other" thing was a possiblity not a dead certain....like maybe it was the whole "spider-god" thing or maybe not? but they had to say that was DEFINATELY the story didnt they? what morons.....

i swear the clone saga had its problems but the writing was atleast half decent....even great in some issues. And the stories had heart and suspense...."the other" is a joke....a pathetic joke.

I cant believe grown men wrote it....its amazing....i would have been too ashamed to release it.

Anyways rant over, to the haters: you were right. Forget people pointing the fanboy finger, you were RIGHT!!

I know its only another opnion....i know mine doesnt count for much....but hell, i agree with you all!

Yeah....welcome to our world.

People often wonder why Spidey fans are so downtrodden nowadays....those are the people who haven't read the "Other". There were no redeeming qualities to this story at all. The fact that one of the "Big Stars" they rounded up for the artwork was Pat Lee just made it laughable.

The funny thing is, after all the JMS-heads spent a month or two defending this crap, JMS and Joey Q recanted and said that Spidey had to be fixed and returned to how he was.

And after all that talk about how the internet has no influence...

I guess they must have finally crashed off of that mountainous high they were on, and seen how terrible things had gotten.

There is a HARDCOVER???

BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!

I'm still questioning what kind of a person would BUY a hardcover of such a terrible story. Probably the same jackasses who bought the Catwoman DVD, Sins Past TPB, Ultimate Carnage TPB, Clear Pepsi, and any form of "Do-It-Yourself" surgery kits.

ultimate carnage is no where near sins past or the other.

theres actually some great stuff in that arc. (the scene with MJ and Gwen was one of the best in USM)

At the risk of getting flamed...are they planning on releasing this in TPB as well so that I can pay less for this garbage and read through the entire story? Anyone?....Anyone?....

the other wasnt great. it wasnt that bad though. the outcome -- mixing up his powers, adding crappy ones -- was awful.(edit there.i originally sed it was just naff. what was i thinkin?? think im tired...hmm, bedtime.) but i really liked some of the art and a couple of issues were cool. eg/ i liked it when he had his eye ripped out -->mega shock!

i only bought clear pepsi... Yes the other sucked... Gurse you spider-cod!!!

I just read the other last night cause I wanted to hear what all the fuss was about. God damn it was ****ty. I think the worst part was those friggin stingers! IT MAKES NO SENSE! SPIDERS DO NOT HAVE STINGERS! EVEN PETER KEPT ****ING SAYING HOW IT DID'NT MAKE SENSE!! When even your main character thinks your story is stupid, that's when you know you've done something wrong. And don't get me started on the Spider-God bull****.

i have 4 out of 6 of those things... :O

If one of those things is the Catwoman DVD, then may God have mercy on your soul. I'd rather try to perform surgery on myself than watch that crap-fest...let alone own the DVD.

The fact that he has 4 of those things is not shocking whatsoever. What IS shocking is that he doesn't own them all.

oooo, its doc destruction (got you mixed up :p) having a go at me again. what a surprise. i actually own none of those things, it was a joke. i havnt even seen catwoman. is it THAT bad??

No....it's worse.

I used the Do It Yourself surgery kit and had an IV of Clear Pepsi during my recovery.

Actually its the writer who thinks its stupid, him putting it in is his way of taking shoots at the heads who suggested it. I remember during the first Morlun arc JMS also did the same thing, in it he made fun of the totem thing.

Edit: It wasn't during that, I was wrong. It was durng the Doc Ock 3 Vs Doc Ock fight.

Here is what I'm talking about. It starts in the last panel of the first pic and ends in the first panel of the second.

I bought the hardcover a few weeks ago under the impression that it totally reenvisioned spidey. Yeah, i did hear the negative press...but I bought it anyway...the damn cover looked so good. And, to be honest I DID enjoy the first few stories...however the ending...yet ANOTHER mysticalspiderthingymadeupoftinyspiderstryingtokillpeteragain. *Yawn*.

oh and the fight with morlun had no emotional impact whatsoever.....they just met and duked it out...that was it. No words...they just saw each other and fought.

No reasoning.....no point.

Having said that, I did enjoy it.

Kind of.

It started out all right, much like Sins Past started out all right. The new villain, Tracer, was a nice touch. Though it actually made no sense what so ever because the character just disappeared and hasn't been around since.

However, once we got to the Reginald Hudlin part and the Pat Lee art, UGH was that some terrible artwork, it basically just went downhill.

My biggest gripe with this storyline is how it basically ruined the totem storyline and JMS went and spit all over his own work, The Book of Ezekiel, which was the PERFECT ending to the totem storyline and it should have been left alone.

If you really take out Hudlin's part of The Other, it's actually not THAT BAD. But it still sucks because JMS crapped all over his own storyline, which I find horribly ironic.

Pretty much sums up my opinion on the matter :(

That, and that if you go by the tpb releases of ASM, you can more or less pretend that The Other didn't happen. Seeing as Vol.10 was the New Avengers arc and Vol.11 will no doubt be the Civil War tie-in.
