Weta Workshop to Create Justice League Costumes

Source: Dan
January 7, 2008
The Dominion Post has confirmed that Weta Workshop will design the costumes for Happy Feet director George Miller's Justice League adaptation.

The film's Wellington-based American producer, Barrie Osborne, who produced Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, confirmed Weta Workshop's involvement.

"They are doing all the costumes and they're doing a brilliant job," he said from Sydney, where filming will start soon. "A lot of people thought it would be too hard, that you can only make those things in Hollywood."

No budget has been announced for the long-awaited movie, which would bring together a range of superheroes including Superman, Batman, The Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern.

Weta Workshop specialises in physical effects such as costumes, props, models and movie sets, and Weta Digital does computer-generated visual effects.

Osborne said it was possible Weta Digital could also be involved in the film, based on the DC Comics series, but that would depend on the studio's commitments to other projects.

"George Miller has a great take on the material, so it elevates it to something that's not a comic-book movie," he said.

old news man we have been talking about this in a couple different friends.

old news man we have been talking about this in a couple different friends.

how come y'all never make official threads of this new's? y'all need to, cuz other wise people won't know if you're talking about it in another thread, this new's was released today, how can it be old?

Because it was already posted in the FAQ thread and the producer barrie talks jla thread.

Well if your checked the threads you would know. Also the producer barrie thread mentions weta in its title.

well I searched d looked around and saw nothing, I Was looking for a thread that sayed like "weta on JLA" or something like that, that's why I didn't see it

Well it is one of the last posts in the FAQ page and its the first post in the producer barrie talks weta and miller thread. Both agentpat posted it in the FAQ thread and then Maze posted it in the producer barrie talks weta/miller thread. both of them posted it early this morning.

Well you should check all threads that get new posts in them every once in awhile so you can keep up with everything everone is talking about. I usually check all new posts in various threads and post in ones i have something to say in.

Yea no problem man, its always best to check all current threads with new posts from the last time u read the thread or a new thread so u know what everyone is talking about and dont feel stupid when someone says we are talking about this already.
So if any mods are around i think we should close this thread now since this news is talked about in the FAQ and producer barrie talks weta/miller threads.

The only questions I am ever asked about my work here at Weta are "how the heck did you get a job?" and "can I has your job plz?"

I can't give you this job because I'm using it at the moment, but I will endeavor to outline right here and now how I ended up in this enviable position. I'm afraid I don't have too many tips or much useful advice, but this is what worked for me! You'll have to find your own underhanded methods I guess.

I went to school in Paengaroa, then Katikati, then the big time! Hamilton! I hated school with every ounce of my angst-filled being and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Later I started playing in some bands and making a few comics, so those years weren't a total waste. I'd pick up any freelance work I could doing ads and posters and stuff but surviving on the dole mostly.

I moved to Wellington about 8 years ago and did a bunch of illustrations for children's books until I applied here at Weta. I got real lucky with my timing and had a bunch of robots and stuff in my folio when work on Evangelion had just begun. A pretty choice first project! Pity it bummed out.

Since then I've worked on heaps of fun stuff- the Chronicles of Narnia, Avatar, Halo, King Kong! I've loved King Kong and dinosaurs since I was a lil 'un, so that was freakin' awesome. I, Robot, Prince Caspian, Under the Mountain, Black Sheep and heaps more that I've either forgotten or are still top secret. I was heading up design on Justice League until it was put on hold. That wasn't entirely my fault!

There's always lots of non-movie stuff going on here that we get to do drawings for as well. I have stuff in our reasonably priced World of Kong and Crafting of Narnia books, I've worked on kids shows, web design, memorial sculptures, collectables and that big-ass Tripod in town. It's pretty cool really.

I still like to do stuff outside of here too and if you wanna have a gawk check it out at-
www.christianpearce.net
which is rarely updated, or- http://christianpearce.blogspot.com
which I've been updating surprisingly often.

So yeah! I guess my advice is "bum around and have fun, then get lucky when you decide to make an effort"

Peace! Pearce!

On his official site and his blog Pearce has posted drawings of what looks like his favorite of the Justice League...the Batman.I'm pretty certain these are NOT the actual designs he's done for WETA just things he's done in his downtime.

I hope one day we'll get to see what WETA cooked up for this movie.

Awesome Retroman! I like this guys style a lot. Hopefully one day we'll see the actual designs.

^^Yeah with it looking more and more unlikely that this current version will get made i hope to see what could have been.

yea i totally would have loved to see what weta was going to do with the suits and i totally would love to see how a grey/black comics look could be pulled off in live action.

The movie is getting back on trails, so, we're soon going to see it on the big screen! :woot:

It's on the sloooooow road to no where right now.

Another name has been added to this movies' crew page on IMDb. Carlos Slater is listed as "Costume technician: special effects". He works for WETA as well and appears to be a prosthetics specialist.
