But I have to give a special mention to Jason Statham, he's gonna be the last old school hollywood legitimately tough guy we're gonna see for a while. He's just unlucky he's around in the time of Paul W.S. Anderson, Michael Bay and McG rather than the days of Sergio Leone, Peckinpah or even recent times of John McTiernan and (regularly working) James Cameron.

I must say that's a pretty damn good point. I never thought of it that way.


And why is no one mentioning Denzel Washington? He's had some pretty good roles this decade.

I think if we're taking the decade as a whole, then Tom Cruise needs to be in the conversation. Not #1 certainly, but there's no question he had a better 2000 to 2007 than, say, Robert Downey Jr. Minority Report and Collateral mainly, but he had a solid string of hits, critically and financially.

Yeah, he needs to rehabilitate his public image some, but it's not like people stayed away from Mission: Impossible III or Valkyrie. Or that his turn in Tropic Thunder wasn't well received.

But seriously, go through this decade's catalogue for both Cruise and Hanks and I think Cruise comfortably takes it... even if he is a *****ebag.

HAHA yea, he is a bit of a weirdo. But the guys a great actor and has been some great, iconic roles.

Hmmm... I would say that if you were talking about the first half of the decade, the nod would have to go to Cruise. He was considered by many experts to be the biggest movie star in the world at the time, with huge hits like M:I2, as well as critically acclaimed films like The Last Samurai. However, when the decade hit the halfway point, his career took a tumble due to some off-the-screen antics that turned a lot of people off. It also didn't help that said antics coincided with one of the worst films of his career (War of the Worlds). WOTW was a hit, but I think that in retrospect, most people agree that it was a sh** movie, far below what we've come to expect from guys like Spielberg and Cruise.

What has followed are a string of films that, regardless of how they performed, are continuously written off by certain critics and fans, simply because it's now become fashionable to hate Cruise. Granted, some of the things that he said in those interviews were ludicrous, but I've heard worse things come out of the mouths of a dozen other actors, and their careers survived.

I think the problem was that Cruise was SUCH a huge star with a great public image, and he simply said and did too many negative things over such a short period of time that people still can't look past it. It's unfortunate because I do think that he's a great actor and I doubt that he'll ever work his way back into the icon that he once was.

I dont think Cruise(or Hanks) has been that great this decade. The only role I think he was great in was in Collateral and he wasnt amazing. I have nothing against the guy and I honestly dont care about his crazyness. I like him but prefer his acting pre-2000.
