The original one is also helped by context. It had almost two hours worth of build up to it. The circular shot is one of the greatest pay off moments in the history of cinema.It was the first time, but IMO AoU was shot better and I loved the cinematography.

And I disagree about the cinematography. The AOU shot was overstuffed. The aspect ratio did not make it easy for Whedon to fit everybody in and it showed.
The taller aspect ratio, combined with the circular pan was the perfect evocation of their unity.
