What Avengers TPB should I buy?

Today, pissed off that Civil War #6 wasn't in my store (I didn't ask why), I cheered myself up by buying an Avengers TPB. I bought Avengers: Under Siege. It involves the Masters Of Evil, lead by Baren Zemo, storming the Avengers mansion and wrecking the place. I'm about halfway through it. That chapter, where they storm the place, is the last bit I read actually. I'm quite enjoying it. I like Hercules' style. "Stand ye back!". And he keeps calling the Wasp "woman". He rules. I like these characters I either never heard of before or only know a little about. But where is Iron Man during all of this?

So anyway, I want more Avengers stories of old. What TPB should I buy next? I want something with a good story, and LOTS of action.

His run is collected in the Avengers Assemble hardcovers. I think they're up to Vol. 4 by now.

Which Kurt Busiek volume will deliver the best ass kicking?

I'd go with Avengers Assemble vol. 2, collecting: #0, 12-22 and the '99 Annual. This covers the utterly fantastic and asswhooping arc with Ultron, and also has fights with Dominex, Lord Templar, Pagan, and the Thunderbolts.

You should just go for the whole run though.

Anything Busiek writes. Bob Harras also had a good run. So did Roger Stern

The Kang Dynasty was indeed a badass, and epic, arc. It is available in TPB form, but it's very hard to find. I ended up getting the single issues from my shop and off of mycomicshop.com. It may have taken me a bit of time and searching, but the arc was well worth it.

And I'd like to second Anubis' reccomendation of Avengers Forever. One of the best Avenger stories ever told, and my personal favorite.

That Ultron arc that they are talking about is in TPB form as well (titled: Ultron Unlimited).

yeah, Kang Dynasty was great. Especially the end. That's why Kang's become one of my favorite villains of all time.

And yeah, if you're gonna get a random volume of Avengers Assemble, you can't go wrong with volume two. Ultron Unlimited is definatly one of the best Avengers stories of all time.

And, if you read the Kang Dynasty and/or Avengers Forever and decide you want to read more about arguably the Avengers greatest foe, Kang the Conqueror, there's a TPB that collects a bunch of older Kang stories called Kang: Time and Time Again.

and I will third Anubis' recomendation of Avengers Forever. That story is an instant classic


oh and if anyone is interested, Amazon.com has several copies of the Kang Dynasty TPB available for sale (some New) its bloody expensive though. I'm glad I have it all in single issues.

You made an excellent choice, Kaine. And while it's not a trade, if you like Hercules, you may want to pick up Thunderbolts (1997) #22, for a continuation of sorts to Under Siege.

I can't believe The Kang Dynasty doesnt get more press. It was truly an epic tale.

Heck, if Marvel released it THESE days, Joe Q would surely make it an "event".

What's the roster during vol.1 again?

Well, virtually every avenger appears in #1-3. In #4, the roster declared is Cap, IM, Thor, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Warbird, with Vision and Wonder Man making frequent appearences and Justice and Firestar as Reserve members. The line up is shifted before the volume is even over, though, as [blackout]Warbird is kicked out and Hawkeye leaves for the Thunderbolts[/blackout]
