What Avengers TPB should I buy?

well, I was talking about events from, let's see, oh yeah, 10 YEARS AGO :oldrazz:

Red Zone, not the Old SPice, the awesome Geoff Johns Avengers story.

Still, that doesn't change the fact that I just can't help reading spoilers. It's a sickness that I just can't shake. I need help. I wonder if there's some kind of medication I can take for it? :o

Oh, and Red Zone was a damn good read too. Probably my favorite of John's brief run on the title.
And the Old Spice Red Zone ain't too shabby either.

Are the Busiek Avengers volumes self-contained? I was considering looking buy the first one or two.

Today, pissed off that Civil War #6 wasn't in my store (I didn't ask why), I cheered myself up by buying an Avengers TPB. I bought Avengers: Under Siege. It involves the Masters Of Evil, lead by Baren Zemo, storming the Avengers mansion and wrecking the place. I'm about halfway through it. That chapter, where they storm the place, is the last bit I read actually. I'm quite enjoying it. I like Hercules' style. "Stand ye back!". And he keeps calling the Wasp "woman". He rules. I like these characters I either never heard of before or only know a little about. But where is Iron Man during all of this?

So anyway, I want more Avengers stories of old. What TPB should I buy next? I want something with a good story, and LOTS of action.

People have given some pretty good picks in this thread, but nothing comes close to the story you're reading right now. I have a hard time caring about the old Avengers and even I was on the edge of my seat for Under Siege.

The first two are pretty self-contained as far as I recall, but by the time you get to the end of Busiek's run, it's quite helpful to have read the earlier work.

If Under Siege had never been written, and had came out today written by Bendis, word for word... today's fans would tear the story apart.

I placed an order for the first two volumes on Amazon; I've never been all that interested in the Avengers (I'm an X-Men fan, born of the 90s animated series), but I'm now a huge Captain America fan, and this run seems like a good place to read up on the Avengers.

let us know what you think when you get em
