I don't see why one is needed to enjoy the series.

I never said I didn't enjoy the series. But I can't act like I don't care how it all started.

it's sort of what makes the show, i know if me and my small circle of friends were surviving in the walking dead world, we wouldn't spend much of our time looking for a cure. Yes life would suck real bad and I wouldn't want to go on very long in that world.


They still doing a spinoff? If there were any thoughts about cause or cure, I think it will start there.

Like I said, if I was in a universe where this was real, I wouldn't even want to live.

What is the spinoff supposed to be? Just a different group of survivors?

They've done a very successful walking dead game by Telltale games which focused on a different group of survivors, I think that one is based on the comics but there's really no difference as it's set apart and they don't really interact in any case. So it's not unlikely the spinoff could be that.

I honestly don't care. I mean I look as the show as all about the aftermath. The cause is irrelevant really. It certainly would be to the characters.

Like I said, the creator and writer of the series has went on record saying that he never wanted an explanation for why or how, just that it has happened and the fallout from it happening. You can email him and see if he'll tell you but it's doubtful taht he's even bothered to write out a plotline for it.

It's true. There's been a large number of documented times where illegal testing on groups of people has happened and it only came to light decades later.

Yeah I thought this one over before and it would have worked if the show ended shortly after Lori died or maybe if they only did the first season.
Personally I kind of want the cause to be left unknown however I would like either a season finale or premiere to give a flash back to the first walker, give like just enough information for the viewer to decide for themselves if the cause was biological or biblical. But I think any explanation of the cause should be given towards the end of the show.

Who knows maybe if/when we get to DC they will maybe shed some more light on that question.

yeah, that was the indoctrination theory. except that was infinitely better than the actual me3 ending.

rick isn't having a dream. and i know it doesn't matter to the creator let alone everyone else how the apocalypse happened, but it's hard not to think about it especially with the eugene arc.

I wonder if we'll get an explanation for it. I hope that we do. It makes me a little sad to know that Eugene was full of sh** because if he had been the real deal, then it would give the characters and the show a true sense of purpose beyond "survive against the zombie horde and whatever band of a**holes they run into this week." The show is still fantastic, but I fear that if they don't start to drive it towards some sort of endgame, it could start to become stale.

I used to want an explanation as to how the apocalypse started but now it doesn't matter to me. There is no point to knowing how it started. The world is the way it is and survival is all that matters.

It's a regression of Mankind to a primitive state. To me the the show is a psychosocial study of humans in an extreme situation. That situation just happens to be zombies.
