The Walking Dead What caused the apocalypse?

What if it is a dream in rick's head

If you want to get a biblical explanation, what if the rapture occurred while Rick was in a coma & the Walkers are the result of bodies left behind without souls but still driven to survive as an animal instinct. Maybe all humans who have survived so far are still being tested or they would have already been taken in the rapture when it first occurred.

Anybody think we'll get our answer in the form of fear the walking dead?

I wonder if we'll get an explanation for it. I hope that we do. It makes me a little sad to know that Eugene was full of sh** because if he had been the real deal, then it would give the characters and the show a true sense of purpose beyond "survive against the zombie horde and whatever band of a**holes they run into this week." The show is still fantastic, but I fear that if they don't start to drive it towards some sort of endgame, it could start to become stale.

I know what you mean. It was nice to see the group have a goal to get Eugene to a lab or to scientists or wherever. But it really helped explore Ginger's emotional storyline. Dude was totally wrecked after the revelation. But I agree that going forward they can't just wander (well they could, but I hope not).

Right now it looks like they have their community and the goal to try and have a sense of normalcy (which currently, isn't working); but when that comes to an end, being wanderers could get old.

I think it's possible. It's the best place to do that IF they are so inclined.

I actually don't need an explanation & didn't even ask the question. Just figured the story was about surviving & not the "why" of it. But if they're going to the start of it with Fear The Walking Dead, they might as well give us something to quench the curiosity of some.

obviously. That's what the walking dead has always been from the very first issue/episode. The point of this thread is for origin closure.

My theory
1. A scientists experiment gone wrong when trying to find a cure- creates the first walker

I keep wondering that too- if the new TV show will tell us how walkers came to be and if the new cast from Fear the Walking Dead will somehow meet the walking Dead Cast on one of the show- either Walking Dead or Fear the Walking dead.

I mean, I would dig this explanation. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't go over well with a majority of people though.

Unless one group does a hell of a lot of walking, the casts arent going to meet. LOL.

The best shot you had was maybe seeing a TWD cast member in an airport or something the pilot of FtWD but it didnt happen. Hell I was hoping just for some throwaway line on the TV/radio about a police shooting in suburban Atlanta to connect the two, but we didnt even get that.

The CDC guy said mysterious virus. So, it's a virus. It just doesn't have a name. Lots of viruses don't have origins, like HIV and ebola. We don't need a scifi plot of mad scientists creating it. Look at 28 Days Later and the "rage virus". No explanation, crazy good movie.

Dale and his wife at a gas station filling up the RV. :o
That'd be a good one.

Pretty sure the showrunners said certain castmembers will cross paths at some point in the future

If I remember right, show creators said they might. Which I'm taking as if Fear is popular enough, maybe. But yea, still a maybe.

That'd be a good one.

Actually, that was explained in the very beginning of the movie. The "rage virus" was a government experiment. Or did you forget that the outbreak occurred when animal rights activists broke into a government laboratory and released a chimpanzee that had been infected by the "rage virus".

Biological warfare I'd guess.

In reality, I wouldn't be surprised if a few governments were working on a zombie virus in a secret lab.

In today's world I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case. We can genetically manipulate fruits and vegetables. We can clone animals.

It's not too far fetched to think that scientists might genetically cross the Ophiocordyceps unilateralis fungus (the zombie fungus) with the rabies virus for use in germ warfare and it gets away from them. That there would effectively be a zombie virus.

What caused the apocalypse? Donald Trump's presidency.

for the whole world to get infected at the same tie, which seems to have happened, then the only explanation i can think of is a radiation from space where the whole planet got infected by the virus.
anything man made would take too long to infect the whole planet.

We are never going to find out. None of these stories ever really address exactly how it started or where it started.

Trump is as good of a reason as any. I mean, his presidency is kind of a "Choose Your Apocalypse" kind of scenario. What will be the cause of the end of the world?

a) Climate change
b) Nuclear war
c) A mass outbreak of diseases due to healthcare and drugs becoming unaffordable
d) All of the above

I've actually theorized... or would be intigued if the virus was supernatural. I've thought about it for the last few years and would embrace [the idea] if such were the case. Makes it even more terrifying.

It only calls for more scientific explanations if we look at the bites, but dying in general and coming back from that? No matter what? Ignoring the zombie media as we know it in our reality (as The Walking Dead universe does itself), everything about the walkers is just way too specific for them to originate from some "experiment(s)".
