What did Bryan Singer think of X3?

^And your facts are 100% accurate of course? Seemingly not judging by the article Ben Reilly posted. So please dont act like you are the authority on what and what didnt happen X-Maniac.

As for Singers reaction? Oh yeah he is really going to be truthful about a friends work to the public isnt he? I think if he thought it was so good, 'unbeliebable' wouldnt have been the word he used.

Heh, he actually was astonished at what had been achieved in the available time, as he also said in a later interview

Rumours....talk...what he wanted to do...blah blah... And yet he didn't, he left for Superman. Which makes anything he wanted to do irrelevant as he chose to leave the franchise.

Always wanting what you can't have and never got is going to make you a very unhappy person, if you aren't one already.

Yes. :word:

It's not cool to attack Rac. He was adding on to the information I posted and he wasn't being whiney about it at all. But to be fair, in Singer's defense, Fox was giving him the runaround when it came to the sequels and he left for what he thought would be a better film/business venture. If Fox didn't want Singer to go anywhere they could've locked him up immediately after the success of X2.

But that's just my perception of the issues that transpired then. Let's be honest the film itself was in jeporady when Singer left, when Vaughn left it just turned everything upside down, and as much as I hate Ratner I do believe he sincerely tried to make a good film. I don't believe it was his intention to make a horrible film. I do believe he did the best he could with what he was given, he was just the wrong guy for the material that is as deep and heavy as The Dark Phoenix Saga.

Truth is none of us will ever know the real story. The only ones who know the real story is Fox and Singer himself. Anything we say, do. or believe is just speculation at this point.

I've already clarified and corrected what Ben said.

Singer's reaction is irrelevant, as is yours and virtually anyone else's, especially two and a half years later. I haven't yet found a DVD or Blu-ray player with a 'remake movie to what I want' button on it, so I tend to like what I like, ignore what I don't and make life as happy as possible.

You don't like the movie, that's obvious. Clinging to those feelings for years cannot be healthy. I'm more intrigued about why you are popping up in this section of the Hype all of a sudden.

Could it be because the Wolverine trailer is getting a lot of positive reaction and you want to be petty, jealous and destructive? I do hope not.

Umm, why are you "attacking" me personally now? I just explained what were the rumours back in the days. That's makes me sad person?

I wouldn't say I was 'attacking' but you do have this irritating habit of appearing on here just to say spiteful, destructive things about anything X-men related that isn't connected to Singer. You also keep declaring your idolisation of Singer and then prove you know little about the movies he has made.

Of course Ratner wasn't trying to make a horrible film. We have to be realistic here. The film is what it is, for a whole number of reasons and I don't think Singer is just the poor victim here. The thing is, when Singer did get all the money and freedom he wanted, the result (SR) was still disappointing to the studio and divided the fanbase. I don't think we were ever going to get the Dark Phoenix Saga in its true sense - it was a quick sideways stare in X1 and a subplot to the main Stryker/Wolverine story in X2. I'm not saying the Phoenix plot was perfect in X3. nor that i wouldn't have liked to see it done differently in some parts, but the film is what it is. An extended edition might give more depth and breadth to the storyline, that's the best we can hope for.

I've already clarified and corrected what Ben said.

Corrected? Sorry but your so called facts about all of this mean **** all to me when you were a million miles away from what actually happened.

Well you dont like negative comments about X3 and you certainly dont ignore them, you are on this personal crusade to defend the movie for some reason and try and prove the people who dont like it 'wrong.' Also, you disliked SR and you certainly dont ignore that either.

You don't like the movie, that's obvious. Clinging to those feelings for years cannot be healthy. I'm more intrigued about why you are popping up in this section of the Hype all of a sudden.

My health is none of your concern or business, and neither are my reasons for popping up here, i'll were ever the **** I like and NO ONE has ever stopped me doing that, on the internet or in person, so get over it.

The things you often are you mean? Dont you remember comments similar to "People only liked SR because it was Superman" or something along those lines? I see you remain as hypocritical as ever.

And if you took ****ing notice instead of assuming for once in your life, you'd notice I gave the trailer a very good rating. Ignorance is seemingly not bliss with you. I've told you countless times before, I'll rant on X3 all I want, YOU are the one who feels the need to reply to my comments, despite me again telling you countless times I couldnt give a **** what you think, about the movie or my opinion.

That speaks volumes. Agenda! :hehe:

I think I said that there were people who only liked Superman because Singer was involved, that they were fans of Singer not the Superman character. That is very obviously true. But that's another argument for another forum.

Well, something's going on to get you in here so often at the moment, so fired up and angry.

All of this fighting over a film that is god knows how old is pretty petty. X-Maniac you do come off as this person on a crusade to look down or to talk down those who dislike the film. Me, personally, everyone knows my feelings on the film and I'm not about to go into that diatribe again.

Bottom line? Who cares if the Wolverine trailer is getting positive reviews. It's a shame that Wolverine gets more care and support from Fox than any of the X-Men films did. The trailer itself while it looks decent, I think they made it to light for my liking and it doesn't have that gritty, dark, and violent aspect of the whole Weapon X concept.

Only thing I'm looking forward to is seeing Gambit, Deadpool, and Wolverine's origins in the Civil War, Samurai, and World War's.

But seriously is there a need to fight over X3? What's done is done. It's time to let go of the past and focus on the present. I sincerely hope Wolverine is a success so maybe, just maybe we can get a future X-Men film given the proper care and attention that it deserves.

Lastsunrise, I'm glad you seem more relaxed about things - it's the best way, especially after all this time. As I said, we have to have perspective.

All superhero movies can be criticised and torn apart. Even the top ones like The Dark Knight - I know someone who disliked it for being far too violent and although I really liked it (just got the Blu-ray), I can also find faults with it: I felt nothing when Rachel died (neither did others I spoke to) so to me it indicates she was underdeveloped as a character, I felt Bale was overshadowed (and out-acted) by Ledger, Eckhart, Oldman and Caine; I felt Two-Face totally lacked any two-faced nature (he is supposed to switch between dual personalities) and I wondered why Batman didn't carry some kind of anti-dog defence (ultrasonic device or a chemical like pepper spray) especially after the opening sequence with dogs....The film wasn't PERFECT by any means.

X3 could never deliver everything the fans wanted - and the fact they wanted so much means Singer's films weren't perfect. People wanted more from Storm, they wanted Beast, Angel, Multiple Man, Juggernaut, Danger Room, Sentinels, more from Rogue, more from Colossus, the Phoenix Saga, and a host of other things - no movie could deliver all that in a way that would satisfy every fan. I think for a realistic view of X3 you have to look beyond these forums and away from fixations and agendas.

I wouldn't say I was 'attacking'
That's why I put it in the quotation marks. ;)

but you do have this irritating habit of appearing on here just to say spiteful, destructive things about anything X-men related that isn't connected to Singer.
That, I'm guilty of. I've tried to be neutral on Wolverine, because it could be good. I'm not taking any definite sides on that one until I've seen the film.

You also keep declaring your idolisation of Singer and then prove you know little about the movies he has made.
Tell me what I don't know about his films? I know, that I don't know the facts about his unmade movies. I just know the internet rumors. But is that something to get mad about?

But seriously is there a need to fight over X3?
I didn't start. :o

For once, I agee with you.

But you know, let's not fight. You love X3. Fine, love it. Let me hate it.

I just find it funny how snarmy and arrogant X-Maniac always is, but yet everyone else is in the wrong except him

Why are you here? Did someone go running to you for moral support?

Thanks for your contribution.

I'm here because I made a stroll, and I saw that you're...basically the same person you've been for two years in regards to this movie...you'd think someone would understand that not liking this movie dosent make you some xbox loving slacker, but what can you do?

You shouldnt thank me....anyone else couldve noted that you're basically a hysterical snob...

Rrrright. Well, you don't know me at all of course and I'm far from hysterical and not really a snob. I just think we should have perspective - and a lot more of it. I'm here because, as my name indicates, I have a potent interest in X-Men stuff, since reading the comics as a kid. So I'm bound to add to debate and make a contribution in here; I love hearing interpretations and information to enrich our understanding and knowledge. Some of the nitpicking on here is silly and baseless and we've been down the same roads so many times.

"We are what we do"...and all I've seen you do is tell people who dont like the movie is that they dont have a proper grasp on reality...or that they have the mentality of a slacker....and then you say things like "Well, you dont know me"...well, the truth is, you dont know anyone else on these boards either. Them hating on X3 does not mean they dont have perspective...it means they hate X3...its really that simple, and for someone who bemoans that you've been down this road many times, you'd have figured you learned some lessons...or at the very least, stop acting like a hysterical snob.

And when did you appoint yourself to speak on behalf of these other people?

If - according to you - i haven't changed in two years, what makes you think I'll listen to you, popping up on here as some self-anointed representative of the haters?

I've seen you do this before, stepping into situations and just ending up being a troublemaker when heated debates would otherwise have dwindled away. You're just fuelling the fire.

May 25, 2003 —

Director Bryan Singer recently spoke to Total Film Magazine about some potential X-Villains in future installments:

The Brood: Sounds like 'The Thing' meets 'Alien'. I'll always try to shy away from anything that I've seen before. You try desperately not to be derivative, and we've seen eggs planted in people's stomachs and people transforming into aliens a lot.

Juggernaut: I've always liked Juggernaut. I like the concept of this unstoppable, freight-train being - the purity of that is terrifying. But he was never considered in any of the scripts I worked on, unfortunately.

The Sentinels: The Sentinels are something we looked at for X2. I originally brought Guy Dyas, my production designer, on board to do Sentinel designs for me and he came up with a clever design and built a maquette of it, which actually sits in my home! But we felt, for X2, the concept of giant robots is a difficult sell. But it's definitely something we may have room for in the future.

Arcade: Ugh. That seems a little 'Batman'. That's all I would say about that.

Apocalypse: It's possible. But that involves an expanded X-Men universe and we're expanding it but, y'know, one step at a time!"

I agree with Singer that the Brood are a no-no, they always seemed a rip-off from Alien.

Would love to see Sentinels and Apocalypse. And I think Arcade could have a place too, but not as a main villain.

So you're just going to side step the fact that you have a snobbish behavior? Ok...I wish you wouldve said so :oldrazz:

Of course, if you say so. :hehe:

I do say so, I wouldnt believe you simply because you have something against Singer and for that matter Vaughn, simply because they didnt direct X3.

I'm not the one on a crusade.

You are not doing the best proving this fact arguing with 3 people in the same thread simply because they have a different opinion of the movie than you. The evidence is all there, you attack people who attack X3, for some reason, you take it personally.

That speaks volumes. Agenda! :hehe:

How the HELL can you call other people arrogant, petty etc over X3 when you are coming out with comments like this. You are the most hypocritical person I have met on these boards. Its not true at all. I have always been truthful about the fact that Singer's involvement in the movie is originally the reason I watched it. But Singer didnt make me buy S:TM on DVD when I previously wouldnt have. And Singer has nothing to do with the 34 Superman graphic novels I own. HE isnt the main reason I love the movie, though he was obviously a big factor.

One could VERY easily make the same argument against you by saying you only liked X3 because it was about X-Men. But I dont see anyone making a stupid claim like that against you.

Well, something's going on to get you in here so often at the moment, so fired up and angry.

I'm fired up and angry at YOU, nothing else, I have told you before, leave the **** alone, I couldnt give a **** about you. I'll go werever I want and comment on what I want. You are not a mod, so you cant stop me doing anything on here.

EXACTLY, for some reason, people who dislike X3 are 'inferior' to X-Maniac. :whatever:. Joke.

For heaven's sake, chill out. Have a herbal tea or something. I have nothing against Singer or Vaughn, that's so preposterous! I don't form fan clubs or hate clubs for certain directors, I don't need to be a defender of someone's vision or whatever. I couldn't care less about all that personal politics. Ultimately, I won't lose sleep if Singer stays with Superman or not, or whether he returns to X-Men or not. A director is only one element of what makes a film.

I have other things to occupy my mind apart from all that. There are more important things in my life than what some director decides to do. I spend my day editing news stories about murder, death, recession, all the stuff you see in the news - it makes you put things in perspective, there's a lot more going on out there beyond the film world and what will happen next with Superman/Batman/X-men.

You're the one with the bitter bias and the crusade and the one who's frothing with hatred, stamping your feet like some kid having a tantrum. We know you hate X3, you've probably had it tattooed across your forehead.

But not everyone is as bitter as you and so you have to expect that you will come up against people who don't feel the same way.

Oddly enough I come on here for enjoyment and to talk about my passion for X-Men. I know some people can't stand my enthusiasm - but that's tough! You can't expect to go round poisoning threads with your aggression and bitterness without any response.

Yes TNC, it's all gone a bit silly. I regret having ackowledged some of the stuff in here.

I think this thread should be beaten with the Back on Topic stick...

I have other problems as well, I come on here to get away from them to find people like you treating people inferior because they didnt like the same movie you did.

YOU are the one like a kid, taking it personal when people post something negative about the movie, insulting them and talking down to them, is that not like a kid?

I come up against people who have a different opinion all the time and have no problem with them, look at Nell, he has the opposite opinion of the movie to me, but doesnt talk down to people or insult them, he DISCUSSES instead, something that seems beyond you without throwing in some insults and demeaning comments.

Oddly enough I come on here for enjoyment and to talk about my passion for X-Men. I know some people can't stand my enthusiasm - but that's tough! You can't expect to go round poisoning threads with your aggression and bitterness without any response.

I dont poison threads, and dont mind if someone comes on stating a different opinion, as long as they arent insulting and demeaning about it like you. I go on ALL threads on this board, not just the 2 you frequent, and rarely have a problem on other boards. So honestly, who is the one who poisons threads and upsets people?
