The Amazing Spider-Man 2 What Did You Not Like?(Spoilers!!!)

Are you referring to what Richard Parker said pertaining to his own DNA/bloodline in reference to the spiders he created? If so, i actually liked this part because i've always hated the fact (in the Raimi movies) that if anyone is bitten they could potential become a Spider-person, as seeing as how many people have handled those spiders, it seems quite possible that it could happen.

One thing you don't want to do in superhero movies is dilute the uniqueness of the main hero. When people start copying Ironman suits he losses his special appeal. Spiderman needs to remain unique and unable to be copied, this is a must to maintain any appeal.

Said in this my review of my 2nd screening but I really didnt like the opening Spidey scene this time around, he puts A LOT of people in danger with his antics and while Spiderman always has fun his number 1 priority is always NOT putting people in danger.

Agreed. That scene aside, I did like how Spidey was concerned with saving bystanders (the bus, bleachers in TS). We need to see the hero showing some concern for bystanders, even if it is in the middle of a fight.(I'm talking to you MoS).

Ugh...

The MOS saving civilians argument is always (like above) taken out of context. It's been argued to death. Comparing that scene in AMS2 to any fights in MOS simply can't be done within context.

Superhero fights supervillain, civilians in danger, hero saves civilains whilst battling villain (or at least stems the loss of life). That's the kind of thing we need to see the hero doing in movies like this.

In MoS, there is little to no concern shown for civilian casualties- and worse yet, no overaching, thematic reason for it. In Zack Snyder's own words "We wanted to show mass deaths because it's mythological".

TASM2 mostly got this right, showing Spidey's concern for civilians and attempts to stem the loss of life.

I hear what you're saying and agree, but not when it comes to MoS and here's why:

Clark/Supes saved people throughout the movie. Before, during and after fights. I think you can reference these events but the one that sticks out the most is the very end. He ended Zod's life to save people!

As far as Zack's comments...I think he meant in the scope of the destruction shown in the film and not specifically to why Superman neglected saving people.

Spider-man has never faced a battle like Supes did in MOS in any of the Spider-man films. IMO, it's hard to make this case against Superman's lack of care for others...

All fair points. And I totally get the context in which the fight took place (Zod as a maniac hell-bent on death and destruction). It's just that sometimes, we need those little tangible details. For example: Would have loved to see Supes land a few solid hits which maybe daze Zod for a minute while he swoops down and saves civilians from being hit by rubble, or attempts to hold up a collapsing building. Even some reflection at the end on all the desctruction would have made everything feel a bit more human and less cold.

I totally agree with you there. I would've loved that!

I disliked Goblin's screen time...

I think they should've had him become Goblin a bit earlier.

I liked his Goblin, I just wished there was more of him, y'know?

I know. I liked Dane's portrayal but I couldn't enjoy it as much because it was sooooo rushed. His portrayal wasn't the worst aspect; his character's development was.

I don't mind how much time Goblin got on screen because I know this was just his origin first appearance. I didn't really like the airplane scene with Peter's parents. It felt unnecessary and drawn out. Especially since the video didn't seem like it had anything important enough to get in a death match over. The screen time could have been used on Peter and Harry hanging out after reconnecting. I think they could have used some more scenes together. Even if it was just a younger Harry hanging out with Peter after his parents left it would have helped solidify the relationship.

A few points already raised here, however rather than go over the same old stuff I'll mention a couple I have not really seen yet.

Electro seemed to pose absolutely no threat to Spider Man at all. Numerous times he was hit with direct blasts of electricity and it did not seem to have any effect whatsoever. It was one of the major things I was wondering about in the lead up, how SM would fight a villain who did not rely on blunt force.

Second, if Oscorp killed all the spiders as Harry states, how is there an ever lasting supply of the biocable for SM to use? (never mind how it is never explained how Peter gets it in the first place)

Also very irritating that all the villains are basically going to have a similar origin. Oscorp is basically just a villain factory.

Oops.

I always thought it was pretty strange-that whole thing with the Oscop webbing.

Seeing as how it had zero effect on any of the rest of the story in any way, I tend to agree. Really, Peter sees he video and it tells him something that has NO effect on the outcome of any of the numerous storylines...

I assumed that Electro, having access to the city's power grid, would at that point be overwhelmingly powerful...but as he's zapping Spider-Man, his bolts seem to have barely any effect...I mean, Peter is perfectly fine, and no worse for wear after being zapped by Electro at full power for like a minute straight...

Very good point. So Oscorp shelved it's Spider-room in 2012 just after Peter is conveniently bitten?
Also very irritating that all the villains are basically going to have a similar origin. Oscorp is basically just a villain factory.

Yes, it is lazy and robs the characters of their individuality. It's like if DC decided to make Wonder Woman a kryptonian relative, or Aquaman or Flash gained their powers because of irradiated shards of kryptonite. Just lame.

Yeah, that's it.

I was fully expecting there to be some sort of evolution of the SM costume to counteract the effects of the electricity. Instead we got some throw away line from some fans on the TV about how the costume is made of rubber and Gwen Stacy coming up with the idea to magnetise the web shooters.

What was the point of a villain who shoots electricity if it does not affect the hero at all and poses no real threat? Good looking special effects sure, I guess that's all that matters these days. Such a shame because I really did like all the eye candy present in this movie, I just found the story to be really weak. So many elements that could have been improved.

Exactly.

Only have a real gripe. I felt more of the screentime should have been devoted to building up Green Goblin's story. That is, too much attention was focused on Electro, who felt more villain-of-the-week and thus throwaway to Spidey's story. It was akin to switching around the screentimes of Faora and Zod in Man of Steel or Brock Rumlow and Bucky in The Winter Soldier for me. The secondary characters taking story-building away from the prime players in Spidey's life. I mean the Goblin should take more centrestage, after all he's
responsible for Gwen's death.

Cutting Rhino entirely from the movie for one might have helped in this regard.

Question: how does Peter get more webbing? Does he make it? Not sure how he has the means to support his equipment.

- didn't like gwen being smarter than peter
- aunt may taking charge at the hospital when she just got hired
- spider-mans a fraud line (just super cheesy, should have just shown him smashing his place and cut the line)
- spidey can't break a windshield
- kafka
- rhinos costume

Totally agreed about MOS, dont get those criticisms at all. And it wasnt like he was putting people directly in danger himself like Spiderman was in the opening truck chase, even stearing the truck into other cars.

Saw this on Friday and really, really liked it. Baffled by the mixed reaction it's gotten, I think it's my second favorite Spidey movie behind Raimi's SM2 but I can't say for sure until I see it again.

Things I didn't like:

-Did anyone else think Giamatti was embarassingly bad in his small role as Rhino? Super corny and unbelievable.

-Didn't love the very end -- the scene with Rhino and the kid was a little much for me. Would have been fine if they just ended with Peter putting the mask back on.

I didn't like GG getting shoehorned in the ending.(And again, the make-up was bad. Embarrassingly so.)

They also could've done a better job at the big reveal. It's like ":sus Spider-man...Gwen...Spider-Man....Gw- You must be Peter!:DV:"

I mean,I guess you can give Harry some points for common sense, but it felt as rushed as the whole Goblin subplot was.

"We need him to find out Peter is Spidey.Got anything?"
"He...just figures it out?"
"Brilliant!We'll use it!"

This is exactly how I saw it, its almost as if Sony pressed fast-forward at this point.
