Hello everybody,
My post has to link with this topic but i can't create a topic.
I'm a foreigner student and to finish my business school I have to write a memoir.
I would like to do it about superheros and marketing. I still not have found my problematic so if you have any suggestion don't hesitate to post it.
Moreover I'm looking some article , books or any kind of informations about the marketing of the superheroes…Do you have any recommendations?
Thanks a lot,
Foolsgardens

I guess we'll see how audiences respond to IM3 and the Cap and Thor sequels after the Avengers. My bet is it only enhances the interest in the characters.

That would be my guess as well.

I voted Other and I will tell you why.

DC aka Warner Brothers will never stop beating the death horses known as Superman and Batman...NEVER. And that is why we got that crappy G.L movie. They never had any faith in the character. I just pray G.L 2 will be better. But they will keep milking The Dark Night and the Big Blue Boy Scout until the well runs dry...and 10 years later they will do it all over again.

But My vote is for something new. A Story that you dont have the force feed to make non-comic book lovers go see. I personally think Someone like The Question, Or The Spectre if you want something dark. Crimson Avenger or Shazam for something action packed (With Shazam I am talking his fights with Black Adam). IF you want something funny go Metal Men, Plastic Man or Booster Gold.

Now I hope someone from DC reads this but if you are going to keep making Superman movies. You need to bring in Doomsday and the death of Supes. And I honestly think it will bring the story of Superman back to life.

And I will say thing either we will NEVER get a JLA movie or a crappy one because DC will wanted to ride the Wave that is the Avengers and it wont work. They will cut and paste a crappy storyline and DESTROY the idea all together. But this is just one mans opinion

I'd agree. TA may be enough to launch Thor 2 into the big leagues. 600 million BO or more. Cap2 should get nice boost also. Maybe 450 million?

JL could provide boosts for Flash and WW but the earliest WB will do JL IMO is 2018. I think the Batman relaunch occurs first as WB needs Batman re-established as a franchise first then move him to JL and guarantee that JL will be huge.

2015 comes the Batman relaunch, 2016 Flash or WW, 2017 Flash or WW - depending on which gets 2016. Then 2018 JL giving boosts to Flash 2 and WW 2. Much like Thor and cap are getting boots.

Yeah I'd like too see this happen as well, plus I'd love for Thor to be launched into the big leagues and become a house hold name.

Wait...so they spent $200 million on a Green Lantern movie because they didn't have any faith in the character?

The big leagues are almost impossible to get to. 600 million is tough. I think Thor can do it given it made 475 million or so in it's first film. A total unknown character. Not so anymore.

Cap is a tougher sell. I don't think it can get to the big leagues but I think it can get to 450 million. Given that it cost 140 milion to make it will be around for a long time as a very successful second tier franchise.

WB really has only 2 major league franchises Batman and GL - despite what happened with GL last summer. That was not a valid testing of the character's strength as a franchise.

Flash and WW maybe could do as well as Cap eventually but I don't think they will be 600 million franchises.

I'll be surprised if we see any other superhero films made by Warners other than the obligatory Bats or Supes film every few years. They finally took a chance with GL, didn't oversee it very well and because it sucked will overreact and not put any more money into the Flash, Wonder Wonam or any other hero that is not the big 2. I really hate it because I would love to see some of these heroes on the big screen. I think one of the things that made GL suck less for me was that at least we got to see him portrayed on screen, brought to life! Just too bad the story was terrible.

Green Lantern was a lasting failure, they should wait and let the GL tv show recapture young people's interest, and maybe test the waters again some years later, as if the first movie never happened, luckily enough the movie wasn't nominated for a raspberry award, so the audience won't remember it that much.

Honestly, I think that WB's handling of their DC licenses fits the definition of institutional insanity. That is, their actions don't reliably correlate with either their intentions, or external reality. Hence why you could, indeed, say they didn't have faith in Green Lantern despite spending an absurd budget on it.

Say what you will about Marvel Studios "playing it safe" or whatever the latest denigration is, they at least can claim to have a legitimate plan, that makes sense. Until WB can make a similar claim, they'll be stuck making mediocre-or-worse films, except when they manage by blind luck to get an excellent director. And in retrospect? I'm convinced it *was* blind luck that landed them with Nolan.

Did Nolan have any hand in crafting the MoS script/story or was it mostly Goyer?

probably Flash because its the only thing I'm hearing about that actually has a script in progress

Apparently thats what the experts on this thread think.

True but what counts is what WB thought and still thinks IMO.

WB clealy believed GL was their next mega-superhero franchise after Batman.

Initially expectations were for up to 600 million at the BO. Not just WB but movie site prognosticators saw a goldmine in GL.

This has not changed. WB IMO has only 2 600 million superhero film franchises. Batman and GL done right. By a Nolan type.

GL will get another shot and I expect it will be a huge success.

Yep very true and Ryan Reynolds was a pretty good Hal Jordan in my opinion.

Not really when you consider WB would be pretty much as profitable as a stuido w/o DC properties, including Batman, as with them.

WB makes the vast, vast majority of it's film profits from non-DC properties. When it comes to allocating it's development/production dollars the vast. vast majority will go to non-DC films.

WB seems to be OK with just one DC film/year. Or maybe not even that as it is starting to look like there might not be a DC related film in 2014.

It's dollars and cents for WB. Just as it is for Marvel Studios. But in the former case those dollar and cents come overwhelingly from non-DC properties while, in the latter case, they come totally from Marvel properties.

When you think of it, it's not insane at all and makes total sense.

Green Lantern was WB's beginning to a JL franchise, and that's failed. And since Nolan seems hellbent on keeping the heroes apart and confined to their own universe, a JL movie is very unlikely to happen, cause WB simply aren't brave enough to part with him.

Unless Nolan can be persuaded somehow in the future...

Is it too late/early right now for WB to develop a DC property film by 2014?

The only way there would be a DC film in 2014 is GL or a brand new franchise (I'll say Flash)

While true, this doesn't change the fact that their handling of the DC franchises meets the definition of non-sanity. Or perhaps its just terminal apathy.

I don't think they'll be touching GL for a long time. Hell, I doubt they'd even consider using him in a JL film.

No they Spent 200 million because they thought the Special Effects would be enough to keep an audience entertained. And what did we get for that 200 million? An ugly ass Costume and a Floating turd they called Paralax. I have seen movies that didn't spend that much that had a great story line and awesome effects. Like someone said on Youtube. We were not mad at G L or Ryan. We were made because we expected better of the movie makers.

I was wondering about this as well. I'm really thinking the Flash will be the next one to get a movie. They've mentioned that they have a solid script last year so I wouldn't put 2014 out of the question just yet.

It was $200 million dollars wasted on what they thought would be a sure thing. Looking back retrospectively the promotion became desperate towards the end, the fact they released 10 mins of footage at the comic convention should have been a big giveaway.

I think WB let Campbell do his thing until they saw the dailies and how they were running behind on the VFX. I think they knew they had a stinker by mid-spring. But then the studio came in to fix it but they just made it worst in the editing room. At least that was my theory.
