What does Alan Moore actually like??

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You haven't enjoyed any comics adaptations? Even the indie films?
ALAN MOORE: There are none that leap to mind. I hear that the American Splendor film was pretty good. I didn't go and see the film; I waited until Harvey [Pekar] and [his wife] Joyce came over to our house — so I got the live talk. We got to show them all around town — that was, for me, better than the film./QUOTE]

I'm sure it was, but most of us do not get the oppertunity to invite Harvey and Joyce to our house.:cmad:

His love for The Wire increases the coolness points I give him. Which is the only currency that matters. :o

I actually think he explained himself pretty well here.

Going off his opinions on 300, and his views on previous adaptations, its clear to see why he isn't exactly thrilled.

i agree, i can also see why this trailer wouldnt suit him, it does look stylyized and though i love it, it is targeted to a larger audience, i hope the film is different however

I'll tell you what he likes--> Sitting in his house, cursing the Hollywood studios and the average movie goer. Also occasionally donning a fedora and Rorschach mask and muttering about the good old days like the sour bastard he is?

That said, I love his work. But every interview I read makes me want to find him and punch him repeatedly for being such a jerk.

He and I share very common interests.

How specifically does he seem like a jerk from that interview?

I just get a vibe from him whenever I read his interviews that he's pretty full of himself

Well in regards to his adaptations, he describes his position well at least. DC screwed him over with movie rights. LXG was total ****, From Hell was completely different from the book, and V For Vendetta... I don't know if he's seen it. But they did make a bunch of pointless changes, and the movie loses a lot of poignancy the book has. He'd see it as falling into the category of a 'pointless adaptation', which to be fair he has a point about too. In fact, a lot of people complain about it. All these remakes, movies based on kids books, remakes of Japanese horror flicks, etc etc etc. There are very few original films.

If Watchmen turned out to be a good film and if Alan Moore likes it, he'll say so I'm sure.

That's the thing though, he's just become a sour cynical bastard. I understand he's been repeatedly screwed over, but he is literally complaining and refusing to even watch the trailer or give this movie a chance. That is what annoys me, the fact that he appears to be so set in what he thinks in regards to this movie that nothing, even a completely faithful adaptation, will change that.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Don't you have the slightest curiosity about what Watchmen director Zack Snyder is doing with your work?
ALAN MOORE: I would rather not know.

I think it's pretty obvious he has no desire to see anything involving it

As well;

In January 2008, Alan Moore revealed that he had negotiated to have his name removed from Zack Snyder's film and to have all royalties go to Dave Gibbons. He said that Gibbons had asked him if he was interested in being updated about the film, but the writer declined. Moore said, "I won’t be watching it, obviously. I can at least remain neutral to it as long as they’re taking my name off of it and not playing these silly, ultimately futile games like they were doing last time, which worked out so well for them."

He's clearly a raging, stubborn bastard... that said, I do love his work! I just don't understand his attitude. Pessimism never helped anyone.

If the man was an optimist, Watchmen would never have been written. Besides, there are things that Alan Moore is very optimistic about, Hollywood and the entertainment industry don't fall into that category and he's had enough personal experience to justify those feelings. I am weary, but hopeful, about this movie but I'm not going to call Moore a bastard because he isn't.

I think he kind of has a crappy attitude. Complaining repeatedly and being immature doesn't help his cause.

How is he 'complaining repeatedly?' People ask him questions, and he answers them. Logic would dictate that if the questions are similar, then the answers would be similar as well.

True enough. But I think he needs to give it a chance, at least. Which he is too stubborn to do...

Good job getting a big avvy :)

I am very pleased with myself. A whole new world of possibilities is open to me.

I think Alan Moore has become a pretentious old grump these days, he seems hate all movies based comic books, saying that such movies hurt the comics industry. That ignores the fact that movies are the only reason marvel is still in business. I bet Moore's pretentious grumpy attitude would not allow him to enjoy the Dark Knight either.

How exactly did Moore lose the rights to LXG, From Hell, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen? I mean, did it happen all at once?
