What does it mean to be black?

Nothing's gonna happen to Obama: Simply because the Americans are more prepared to receive a colored man than in the Luther king days back than he would have been shot period! What I really suggest to Obama is to check is background , his past life, his early childhood cause the real treat here is to try to humiliate him in front of milions of americans or the entire world so that he resign! One man who knows that is Mr.Clinton!

Well that's going on at the moment. No stone is being left unturned with people trying to find shady stuff in Obama's past.

Really, until we get away from all this worrying about what it means to be black, why someone is black, whether or not someone is black, etc., we're never going to get past racism.

Racism is just fueled by that kind of talk, from what I've seen. Who cares if you're black? Who cares if I'm white?

"Once we as African Americans change our mentality then we can and will achieve all of the things mentioned and more."

How about you as people, instead?

Hey guys,

What does it mean to you for Barack Obama to be running for President? And not just that but the fact that he has an excellent chance. Do you feel in a way proud? Do you feel glad that things have come far enough that a black man can go for President? Do you maybe feel disheartened at some bigoted reactions (people saying he is Muslim and so forth) and possible death threats against him?
Makes no difference(to me). He's not winning.

black guys can play basketball awesome, they can dance awesome, they can rap awesome, they can sing awesome, and they have big *****.
that's pretty much everything i wish i could do/have.

What makes you think that? I've heard rumors that McCain will drop out a short time before the actual elections due to "health issues" and the Republicans will drop someone else in there, probably someone we won't vote for either.

Obama's pretty much got this election down so far. I highly doubt we'll put another Republican back in office after what Bush has done to our economy, especially considering the fact that Barack claims to have plans to revive it.

Genetically speaking, all Americans are African-Americans. I recently had a gene test done, and I'd definitely be considered 'white' by my external appearance. However, the gene test simply traced how far back my particular haplo-group can be traced 'out of Africa'.

That being said. I'm from the South, spent most years as a punk rocker, 'white', raised with a zen buddhist priest for a father, my best friend of 20 years is African-American, my fiance is Japanese-American.

Now, if you were to ask me what it means to be 'white', I'd tell you I have no ****ing clue, but it definitely has something with the genes that determine how much melanin is displayed in my skin.

I can't say that I take pride in my culture, because I don't really have a culture besides American culture. Much of American culture makes me ashamed. Instead, I opt to be impressed by the achievements of "humanity" in general.

I just don't believe america is ready for change.

I'll wait till election day to be proven wrong. Not saying I'm right, just saying until it happens, it's not a done deal.
