"What Goes Up..." (Hawkman)

not much of a fan of hawkman, but I'll still check the episode out.

Hawkman looks BAD-ASS.

Of course, it will bare unwelcome comparisons to JLU's "Shadow of the Hawk", which introduced Hawkman to the Timmverse in a team up that included Batman and Shadow-Thief. HOWEVER, that episode of JLU was hardly it's best, bogged down with some conveluted stuff. THE BATMAN's version of Hawkman can be purer and simpler, which can be good or bad, considering how it is depected.

In some ways, Hawkman could be interesting. Like Batman, he seeks to uphold the rule of law, whether on Thanagar or Earth. Unlike most aliens, though, he doesn't have any true "super powers", if they go by the iconic version. The mace, the wings, the gravity-belt...all technology combined with skill. So, if played that way, Hawkman has much in common with Batman. Of course, played as many of the JL team-up's have been, Hawkman will be a winged hero with a mace who teams up with Batman for 22 minutes to fight people, no more, no less.

He is an interesting choice as Hawkman is hardly popular or even rumored to be cast in ANY motion picture version of JLA. I'd have probably preferred Wonder Woman, Zatanna, or Black Canary on the JL roster instead in THE BATMAN. But it could be decent. Black Mask has usually been handled well, and the animators hopefully will have a field day with Shadow-Thief.

Glad they toned done the mask. Wasnt the bird nose large and awkward in The Joining.

I'm glad there changing the heroes costume for the better. Mabye this will be like the batman/superman story

Yes, in Identity Crisis Deathstroke cut his harness in midflight and he fell out of his wings (but only like 8 feet or so)

Another Leaguer in the Batcave . Come on now is every freaking JL member going to know that Bruce Wayne is BATMAN and get a tour of The Bat Cave as well ?

Yeah, Hawkman looks better than he did in THE JOINING PART II. Heck, I'd argue he looks better than the JLU version. Of course, the design for Green Arrow and Hal Jordon for THE BATMAN were great, too, and their episodes were strictly mediocre fluff (although the GA was among the better of the team-up's, if not the best at this point).

The wings are technology?

Originally, yes. Hawkman technically wears an anti-gravity harness that allows him to fly and lift great weights. The wings are artifical and aid in steering. That may have changed in the comics, though.

In JL/U, the wings became organic, as well as the enhanced strength/physique. It worked for that show but that doesn't mean it has to be carried over in every cartoon version. Personally, having Hawkman be an alien who actually doesn't have any real "superhuman powers" and relies on skill & technology could have him connect to Batman a bit. But, we'll see if the episode gets even that deep.

Yes, it is getting very annoying and predictable. THE BATMAN's Dark Knight is so friendly and trusting. He'd have let Prank into the Batcave if he returned and tripped a burglar at this point. :p I can understand Batgirl feeling jealous. It took her ages to stop being a burden and get Batman to let her in. But apparently any adult hero is given the tour and his identity. Bats is essentially "costumed cop" here, acting as if DKR never happened. Basically, Silver Age Batman.

I think Hawkmans wings were still artificial in JLU. Hawkgirls were organic

Yeah, I meant to say that Thanagarians in JL/U had organic wings & enhanced physiques. Hawkman was human there and used technology. He also was rather conveluted, in trying to connect with the modern version. Hopefully THE BATMAN's version keeps things simple and iconic.

Convoluted is right. There was sometype of legal matter surrounding his tv rights that they made a alien parallel, Hro whats his name, before plans for Hawkman in JLU

That and they worked in a lot of the Geoff Johns attempts to organize the continuity into something cohesive that merged the ancient Egyptian stuff and the Thanagarian stuff. He even wrote one episode.

I am wondering if Batgirl will finally get to meet a member of the Justice League or will she still be treated like a red-headed step-child.

Hawkman looks very cool, and I am figuring his wings may be artifical since it seems he is extending his anti-gravity energy to catch Robin.

Batman's so ashamed of Batgirl. He doesn't even know she is in college until she tells him and he never invites her to team-up's. :p

At least Black Mask makes a better reocurring villain than either Joker or Penguin this season (even if he does sport DC's more modern "ripoff Red Skull from the 90's" design).

Can you blame him .

To be fair, Batgirl was not the problem in Season 3. The problem was moderation. She is fine in doses, not shoved down our necks. Plus, many times the writers were unable to jog the fine line between "sassy" and "annoying". It got better in Season 4 with Robin to play off of. That, and many of the episodes in Season 3 were not terribly strong, and she made them worse.

But, yeah, she is the black sheep of the Bat-family at this point.

I just the episode is as good as Hawkman's design. ;)

He got no connection to Babs Whatsoever , Heck he didn't even want a partner to begin with .

However with Dick , he feels he needs to see that Richard doesn't become like him so he's taken him under his wing as Robin .

As for season 3 (for me it was unbareable to watch, BG ruined it for me.) If not for season 4 intro of robin I probably wouldn't have watch season 4 . Because her trying to score point with Bats and him pretty much not responding was painful to watch on both accounts .

Well he seemed to appreciate them in Superman/Batman. He wouldnt shut up about them. Although the role seemed kinda reversed in that episodes since Supes was the loner and Bats was a team player.

Hawkman looks great ; I hope the story follow.
