what "great" critically acclaimed films have put you to sleep?

Saw The Lobster a few weeks ago. Interesting idea and strong performances, but the film really dragged half way through. A two hour film that would have been much better with a half hour or so chopped off.

Taxi Driver

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Magnolia.

Age Of Innocence.

Speaking of The Lobster (which I liked!) I saw the director's previous film Dogtooth on several recomendations.

Ugh... that was almost painful to watch. This director has the worst case of animal hatred since Wes Anderson's relationship with dogs.

Star Wars. I find the first and second acts of the movie incredibly painstaking to go through.

Giant Moths vs United States Moronic Forces vs Sideshow Godzilla (2014). I almost fell asleep two times.

P.S. The film is also known as Godzilla. I have no idea why.

Loved Lord of the Rings when I was younger, but I just find it a pain trying to rewatch them today. Three hours of doom and gloom with people seemingly constantly saying things like "the enemy is moving. Sauron's forces are massing in the east", "the stars are veiled. Something stirs in the east" and so on. And let's not talk about the extended editions...

I'll add to the LotR pile. Never been able to sit through any Tolkien movie.

Star Wars. :oldrazz:

Episode 4 ;)

Yeah A New Hope is a very "by the book" story. But remember that "A New Hope" wasn't the smash it in its time because of its story, it was because of its special effects, which were light years beyond anything audiences had seen up until then. Got to keep that in mind when you're watching it.

Batman the Dark Knight (the one with Heath Ledger) was a convoluted mess, IMO. Didn't enjoy it at all.

Birdman
The Aviator
Citizen Kane
Gone With the Wind
Black Swan
Batman Returns

Pretty much every "Best Picture" Oscar winner would be on this list for me

Damn I hate that movie. Never again.

Other worthy mentions:
The Witch
Bridge of Spies (!! this one is completely intolerable)
Tangerine

I loved Bridge of Spies. Why didn't you like it?

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

good lord was that movie boring i went in based off trailer thinking i was getting some intense British spy thriller but i ended up just getting a bunch of old brits sitting in a room talking for 2 hours

I thought the book was better. Mainly because I didn't fall asleep reading it.

I think a lot of people saw American Hustle as a modern day version of The Sting.
But it lacked the sense of humor that the Sting had.

Chariots of Fire.

I'll be honest I don't even remember if I slept through it or I shut it off.

I never literally fell asleep watching a movie, be it in theaters or at home.
But i've seen people sleeping in the theater, i even remember one guy snoring (don't remember which movie).

As for feeling bored watching a movie....i bet i have, but don't quite remember one at the moment. Maybe some b-movie from the Syfy channel.

I'm nothing if not perseverant

I saw a guy sleeping in the theater when I saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
