Next year will see the release of the first solo Superman film in over a decade with James Gunn’s Superman, and it’s no exaggeration that this movie may be the most important in DC’s history just because so much is riding on it. It’s not just the start of a new Superman franchise but it’s supposed to kickstart a new DC cinematic universe; this movie is coming off not just poorly received movies but movies that have severely underperformed or just flat-out bombed. DC on film has not had a bonafide success in years.

Now we’re hearing some rumors swirling of poor testing screenings for Superman though that doesn’t automatically mean the movie will turn out bad as we’ve seen examples of movies with poor test screenings that turn out be critically and commercially successful but what if the worst case scenario happens and the movie doesn’t resonate with audiences as hoped, and it ends up following the DC bomb-streak what do you imagine would be the fallout for the potential failure of James Gunn Superman? Does James Gunn and Peter Safran get fired or replaced, does DC on Film just become only Batman-centric going forward?

Supergirl and Clayface will have to be major successes.

Superman will become no one

I have criticized the doubling down on Zack Snyder with BvS but we would be remiss to mention that during MOS, the thought of an extended universe was even talked about mainly because the film finished production prior to the release of the Avengers in 2012. Even after the release of MOS, there seemed for a while to be talks about a MOS sequel but a little while later we got the news of BvS which seemed to not be a Snyder choice.

I think you have to try and do a Superman sequel and not rush the character or an overarching storyline like Thanos in the MCU. I would say that doubling down on Gunn, Superman & Corenswet would be the right way to go.

WB is broke. They aint got no "doubling down" money.

WB as a studio will have to sell, won't they ?

They'll have no choice, I would imagine the rights to the DC stable of characters will have to go elsewhere, wouldn't they ?

As Superman is gonna lose a fortune, there'll be no money for other films I wouldn't imagine.

Get used to seeing this on DC films.
