What happens when Marvel Run out of A-Listers?

Thing is, Beyonder isn't really an evil malevolent entity. He's more like an observer.

Now for an individual phase, honestly, I would want Masters of Evil. You don't have to call them anti-Avengers, but I would want Avengers vs. the Anti-Avengers.

You could do Thunderbolts too.

True. I want to see a lot of dimensional/planes of existence type material. Start introducing alternate realities like the 2099 timeline or Spider-Verse. Get symbiotes, do House of M, Marvel 1602, Secret Invasion. The possibilities are endless.

It'd be impossible for them not to announce that FF has Shawshanked it's way to the MCU before A4 release.

I don't like that idea at all :/

Marvel's good at making audiences care about smaller heroes, they'll be fine.

I don't want a 1602 movie specifically. Or Spidey 2099. At least for right now.

But what about alternate realities in general? Doctor Strange has made it possible for these kind of films to happen.

And I'm dying for a Spider-Man 2099 movie at some point. The thread is What happens when Marvel Run out of A-Listers? So give it another 8-10 years, I'd love to see a 2099 movie. Or better yet, a Spider-Verse film.

I think we've already addressed that.

I mean having Spider-Man in phase 3 means they won't run out of A-listers for a while. Second. Marvel has shown remarkable ability to turn C-list characters into popular A-list characters.

Doctor Strange was not an A-lister, and now his movie has made over half a billion dollars worldwide. Guardians of the Galaxy were not A-listers. Thor was not an A-lister.

Also, I feel like they could always recast the A-listers if the time comes. Why not? They've already recast the Hulk and War Machine.

I'm kinda laughing because pre 2008, outside of Spider-Man none of these were A listers.

The Hulk and Captain America have always been A-listers. The Hulk in particular is one of the most easily identifiable characters in fiction.

OK that's two if you want to argue.

Thor - Not an A-lister.

Doctor Strange - Not an A-lister

Ant-Man - Not an A-lister

Guardians of the Galaxy - Not a single A-lister.

Totally, Marvel has taken it's B and C list characters (although I might argue Thor is an A lister) and shown us that a good story, a strong performance and characterising the hero as someone likeable but flawed is pure gold.

I mean, who thought Ant Man or Dr Strange (or the Guardians, I mean a talking raccoon and a walking tree) could be so entertaining ?

I don't think it matters who the protagonist is - so long as the vehicle around them is good quality - which is what Marvel has delivered time after time.

So will it matter if they run out of A-listers ? Nope, because I reckon that if they keep focused on what's important they could make any Marvel character (and there hundreds of them) worth going to the movies for.
Ultimately, the list doesn't matter.

I think that the next "main villain" after Thanos shouldn't be another cosmic entity. You can't top Thanos with the infinity gauntlet and imo any attempt would feel redundant.

Much better choice would be to go with an earthly villain. Dr. Doom would be perfect.

I guess it's hard for me to think of the Hulk as an A-Lister when it doesn't have the BO draw as Spider-Man, Batman or Superman.

Hulk has absolutely been an A-lister, that just doesn't mean his movies do well. Superman is one of the most iconic and recognizable characters in fiction (in fact way moreso than about 99 percent of Marvel's characters) and they've similarly had a hard time making movies out of him since the late 70's.

Hulk is one of the few characters that people could easily identify pre-Avengers, or even prior to the 2003 Ang Lee film. I think the 70s-80's TV series with Lou Ferrigno plays a huge role in that.

Hulk is a character that works best in two different ways:

1. Episodic (TV series)
2. Supporting Character on film

It's very difficult to give him his own movie. I love that he will be in Thor: Ragnarok.

So... you just don't like the idea of alternate reality films in the MCU? It's fine if you don't, I'm just not understanding why, especially after Doctor Strange.

War Machine was only in one film before getting a recast, and he doesn't have the same impact as someone like Iron Man. I don't think RDJ will ever get recast because he has owned the character. My belief is that when RDJ retires the role, Iron Man will probably be done as well.

They recast the Hulk out of necessity. And now the Ed Norton film is widely ignored and forgotten about.

We don't know what Marvel's situation is going to be like after Phase Three is completed.

For all we know, they could have Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, and Namor back in the stable by then.

F4 and SS are possible, along with Namor. But once again, they have more than enough stories to tell that will last them even if they don't get them back very soon. I'm not worried.

I'm sure Marvel will figure out what villains to use and what storylines to borrow from. Every adaptation has been a very loose one, and with Civil War they have show to be able to turn a divisive comic into a much better movie. Plus movies like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange have shown that they can use extremely minor villains and composite villains as well.

Unlike those 3 heroes Hulk's solo films left much to be desired. Particularly Ang's film. And then a quick reboot in such a quick span of time that it had to overcome.

Moving forward beyond phase 3 all the new heroes currently being introduced will be getting sequels. Strange, BP, Captain Marvel, and Spiderman. GOTG will likely get its third film as well as Antman. The usual ensemble film whether its a 5th Avengers film of something else will continue. Hulk, IM, Thor and Cap will probably pop up in the other hero films and the occasional ensemble if they are still around. Not to mention the "New hero/group film debut" that Marvel launches every phase.

They will make these films until a decline happens. FF should be back in the fold as well whether its Marvel or a FOX/Marvel collaboration. By the way.......who thinks a Thunderbolts film would work?
