What If the glasses are gone!

The trouble is, if you make a foolproof physcial disguise, there is no need for Clark's personality to change.

If it's absolutely impossible for anyone too look at him and put two and two together, he can be just as confident, just as heroic etc. He doesn't have to be nebbish, or understated at all.

So you kind of just loose that entire half of the character...

I seriously hope they'll go for a grounded and clever approach and not some magical kryptonian technology, just like with the workings of the suit.

Honestly I've always found making such a minor change to his appearance and fooling people with acting a lot more clever than sticking a domino mask on him like countless other superheroes.

There's nothing clever about it at all. As another poster mentioned we as the audience knows it's a ridiculous solution to hiding the identity of probably the most famous person on earth but we accept it with a wink and a nod.

However presumably the new guys are trying to create a more grounded version of superman they might have to go beyond that *wink wink we know this is foolish but go with it* attitude of the past.

Again people are willing to suspend belief that a man could fly in a superhero film but are less likely to accept that people like Lois lane and perry white and blind fools.

Perhaps they can and will keep the glasses, sans any magical/mystical/Kryptonian tech explanation, and then go a similar route as Earth One and Smallville by having Lois figure out that Clark is Superman before the end of the film.

Well, I disagree. So there.

It isn't just Lois, what about everyone else at the Planet?

Though, so far there's no evidence yet that Lois even meets Clark in this film.

Her only interactions are with Superman.

Could be intentional.

I dunno if clever is the right word, but I know what you mean. It's always been a more interesting disguise.

The idea of hiding in plain sight, disguising yourself by the pure fact that no one would entertain the idea of Superman being that guy in the office, no matter how much he looks like him.

The notion that a women can be a highly intelligent and successful journalist, and still be blinded by her own expectations of this simply bigger than life figure.

And she doesn't WANT to see they are the same man, or certainly not at first. Because she's completely taken by the mystery, the fantasy.

There's so many interesting thoughts and dynamics involved in that disguise, that you just don't get if they change it to something that is 100% foolproof.

And it'll be a serious shame to me if they don't see that.

But it's pretty likely they won't I suppose. Seeing as I seem to be in a minority here in my love of it.

Whatever happens, I just hope the glasses stay.

If they have to add some extra explanation, I'll get over it I guess... Maybe. I'll still be dissapointed for all the reasons I've said about why I feel the disguise is important.

But if they just do away with them all together, and there is no more of the iconic imagery of seeing him take off the glasses to reveal himself, or take them off when he's about to change into Superman... Well they'll have missed out something huge, something I love.

The easiest way to solve the problem is to have the lenses of the glasses actually be kryptonian crystals that slightly distort his facial features. That way everyone wins. Its feasible, right? He is an alien with advanced alien tech in his fortress of solitude.

So, we, as spectators, are never going to see the Clark's face everybody else is seeing?

Yep. I've never heard one convincing argument as to why people who have met Superman and Clark wouldn't be able to recognize him as being the same man. That's why I'm hoping that there's some other element to the disguise, like a wig, or maybe the glasses will be some alien tech that will distort his appearance.

well no body here or in the comics has come up with a good alternative so lol

In the late eighties/early ninetines, it was suggested that Superman vibrated his form when he was in public, so that even if people could see him, they were never neccessarily looking at the same image. It was supposed to make it hard to get an accurate picture of him.

Clark vibrating ALL the time?

^lol exactly like i said there is no good alternative it is just soemthing you go with

A wig?

No.

There's also been the idea that Superman has some kind of low level telepathic ability that he uses to cloud men's minds....wait, that's someone else.

Or how about a simple:

"Whoa! Clark, has anyone ever said you look a lot like Superman"?

"Yeah, I never hear the end of it".

*slice*

Clark cuts his hand on something around the office that he laced with Kryptonian metal so it breaks his skin.

"Shame you're not invulnerable".

If you go with the glasses I think you need to embrace it wholeheartedly. I.e., according to the “internal logic” of the story, CK’s glasses are a thoroughly convincing disguise that no one even thinks to question.

So it’s a mistake, I think, to get self-conscious about it - feel the need to address the “problem” and provide a “solution” via some flimsy pretext or dialogue. Almost inevitably, the “solution” won’t really satisfy and it makes characters look stupid for buying it.

That type of dialogue would make the characters look really stupid and unrealistic.

He really just needs a stronger disguise as Clark Kent. The glasses are only the start.

I think they should keep the glasses. I always like the fact that most people (even Lex) believe that Superman would never subject himself to living as or pretending to be a normal human. So they never figure out he is Clark Kent. Also I like the fact that they rarely look Clark in the eye which is also good.

The 'no one pays attention to Clark' thing is what they did in Superman Returns. It worked, in the context of that story.
