What is DC Entertainment doing? What is their plan?

You could do any one of the following on a TV-movie budget, just for starters: Luke Cage; Iron Fist; Moon Knight; Elektra; Daredevil; Deadpool; Green Arrow; Hawkeye; Nightwing; Batgirl; etc. etc. etc.

Any street-fighter/ crimefighter is pretty much little more than a cop show with snazzy costumes.

Just do the cop show and never mind the costumes, then. :O

WB/DC should actually just sell some of the characters to other studios that are willing to push the properties that they don't wish to produce. New writers are always looking for way to break into the business, there are directors waiting for their chance, actors that need a career boost, MONEY to be made (since that's what makes the world go around), and fans get what the want. Pushing other comic book adaptations will only take them so far, some adaptations don't have nor need sequels. WB last resort will be another foocking Batman and Superman all over again. At least put Nolan, Goyer and Timm in charge of making the films, those three have more knowledge and creativity combine that the WB executives that keep on foocking things up.

Sell the rights to the characters and they'll never get them back. Just look at Spider-Man and the X-Men. The WB will not tolerate another company taking a big cut from movies made with their own characters. They're also under no requirement to make superhero movies. As others have said, they can make franchises in other genres.

If Sony Pictures goes bankrupt & shuts down which seems like a big possibility then I do not see why MARVEL can not get back Spider-Man

That's a bad idea. Marvel is paying dearly for optioning their characters back when they were broke. The scattering of their properties to different studios and the resulting proliferation of comic book movies threaten to cause oversaturation.

Exactly.

While I agree with the rest of your post, this statement is not necessarily true. When Marvel sold the rights of X-Men and Spider-Man to Fox and Sony, the circumstances were completely different. WB would not sell the rights in perpetuity, as they surely see what is happening to Marvel's two biggest franchises. It all depends on what the contract states. Suppose WB only gave another company rights for two films within in five-year block? If it's in the contract, there's no way the company can legally keep the rights afterward.

Im still waiting on Merced to tell me why MOS cant gross Iron Mon type numbers.

If the film succeeded, then the company would fight tooth and nail to keep the rights to the property as long as possible.

A product company that is in line with WB could be with DC Entertainment needs. Let the production company take up the cost of the movie and have WB to the distribution and marketing for the film.

People think Man of Steel can't get Iron Man numbers? Really?

I've already mentioned that Green Lantern is opening in Australia when kids will already have gone back to school. Harry Potter is already coming out next week. Captain America will debut on July 28th. GL is coming out in August. Despite the push of commercials it's very doubtful it will make serious gains Down Under.

Plus they want to count on the Japanese market at a time like this? Bad planning, y'all. Very bad planning.

(FYI in neighboring New Zealand it's grossed a total of $1,229,448 so far.)

Ehem. when should they have planned to release GL in Japan then?

Is this before or after he tells you that superman as a franchise is part of this big conspiracy that WB and DC have been trying to diminish the value of the character for over 20 years.

I think right now we're looking at one superhero film a year if that. Batman 2012, superman 2013 and take your pic, maybe the flash or WW for 2014. WB has to have a few tentpoles a year so its not like they wont make a superhero film because if they can give the money to a film like speed racer or poiseden then they can definitely spend the money on one of these films.

If you think of it, the flash and WW are the only "big" characters left that they can give a decent budget to but not go overboard.

I'm totally cool with one superhero flick of year from WB/DC.

Who knows, they may very well go back to the JL idea then launching solo franchises if they feel like they can't get any other characters to go. At this point the only film we know about with a script is the flash, but since nothing has been said of it since they turned in a draft in december I'm guessing they're not thrilled with it.

To move MOS to 2013 is not a bad idea since nothing else WB/DC has lined up can reasonably get released that summer. Flash or WW by 2014 is more of a possibility at this rate. If GL had succeeded perhaps they would have set up the sequel for summer 2013, but no such luck.

Everyone is so worried about WB but deadline hollywood just reported that with Harry Potter's release the studio has crossed the billion dollar mark domestically for 11 consecutive years for an industry record.

I just had this thought but could maybe DC be somewhat afraid to do the whole
"connecting the movies" like Marvel because that whole death and return of Superman idea back in the 90's fell through?

This month would have be fine. They'd probably get the same results as the releasing it last month or the next. :woot:

Support for the Victims in Tohoku!

What you do mean by that?

The whole delaying of Superman, and the rewriting, sounds swell. You know, the more a movie is rewritten and changed of dates, the better the movie is.
