What Is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Cooking With DC Thread (Black Adam)

The rock definitely looks stiff at times. He isn't as comfortable as he was in front of the cameras as he was with wrestling

I second Chamber-Music's motion (this is a democracy isn't it?)

Seriously, though, this guy is a really talented Welsh actor. His biggest role was that of CBI Agent Rigsby in the CBS show The Mentalist where he pulled off a flawless American accent.

He`s six foot four and exudes a boyish charm, but can also pull off an intimidating presence when necessary (he also played a terminator in the pilot for the short-lived but excellent Sarah Connor Chronicles).

Definitely; Owain Yeoman for Shazam!
I think there's potential here. Look at that eyebrow-It may be able to mirror the Rock's eyebrow.

All kidding aside, this guy has a good look. He'd have to go through the Cav-El workout to approach the ridiculous shape of the Rock tho. Or will they have Rock tone down so they can give him a musicle suit? Hmm....

Eh, he'll do fine. We've all been *****ing about wanting him as this character for years. Now we get it. Fanboys, I tell ya.

I love this casting just always thought the rock would grow into a better actor

He has. What you been watching?

I am all for Elba as John Stewart if he's able to get out of his Marvel contract.

I don't think a contract as a supporting character in the least successful franchise in the MCU would be very effective at keeping him away from GL.

yeah, that guy above looks pretty good. i hope it's some fresh faced unknown rather than an established star

I've been a rock fan since 97. Had a rocky mavia doll. I've seen him in everything and expected him to be a great actor. Where is all his charm from wrestling in his movies? He's just some guy in fast series, it wasn't there in Hercules, so tell me where it was? He had it in be cool

Right.

I assure you, there's a reason Jamie Alexander isn't playing Wonder Woman.

From EW:

Earlier today, Dwayne Johnson tweeted that he would be playing Black Adam in a filmed based on DC’s Shazam. The announcement was surprising for a few reasons. For one thing, Black Adam is the Big Bad in the Shazam mythology. For another thing, most of the recent buzz around the bigscreen DC universe had focused on Justice League characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman.

The Shazam project will be produced by New Line, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. proper, and when New Line president Toby Emmerich gets on the phone to EW, he makes it clear that the film will be a different kind of superhero movie. “It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself,” he explains. “It’s a DC comic, but it’s not a Justice League character, and it’s not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies.”

The usual superhero-movie cone of silence prevents Emmerich from addressing any of the plot elements of Shazam directly. But when asked where the movie would fall on the superhero-movie spectrum (from dark and gritty to light and peppy), Emmerich does allow that the movie “will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real.”

Although it’s still unknown who will play the heroic titular character—and although New Line isn’t confirming the presence of Marvel family members Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel, Jr.—Emmerich is effusive about the addition of Dwayne Johnson to the DC Universe. Comparing the role to Johnson’s turn in Fast Five, Emmerich describes Black Adam as an antihero.

“Black Adam is a complex character,” says Emmerich. “The villain in superhero movies is often, I think, what makes the movie. And I thought Dwayne’s take on the character, and the way that he saw Black Adam, was really compelling and fun.”

There’s no official release date for Shazam, but the project has hired writer Darren Lemke (who previously worked on New Line’s Jack the Giant Slayer.) Johnson is starring in New Line’s earthquake thriller San Andreas next summer.

I personally think he's gotten worse. I really like his first appearances, like in Walking Tall and Rundown. He just seemed more natural and effortless in those movies. Now, not so much.

And Gridiron Gang, and Snitch, and Pain & Gain, etc.

They are not going to allow anybody with a multiple film contract jump to one of their rivals. Djimon Hounsou on the other hand is now free to play Martian Manhunter since his character is one and done in Guardians of the Galaxy.

But...but....Drew McWeendy said there was "no jokes" policy at WB!!!

:o

We never got official word that this isn't connected to the DCMU, correct?

Didn't like Gridiron Gang (especially because of a lot of his cringey motivational stuff) and despise Pain and Gain. He was good in Snitch though
