Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock spoke to the IESB this past weekend about the upcoming big screen adaptation of D.C. Comics Shazam and about the possibility o fhim playing the title role Captain Marvel or of his arch nemesis Black Adam. He tells us he expects fans to be vocal and that they will be the deciding factor regarding his role in the Peter Segal directed superhero film.

John August has recently turned in his first draft of Shazam to the studio but there had been no announcement if or when the superhero film will go into production.

Yeah, I can just see him hovering in the air with his arms crossed with that stern look on his face. It would be awesome.

I like Dwayne Johnson-- it would definately be different to have him as Captain Marvel, but I'd rather have Captain Marvel debut in the Justice League film (and have Aquaman's useless arse left out of the plot). Justice League should be the stone from which Wonder Woman, Flash, and Captain Marvel films are propelled.

Captain Marvel.

I know people will argue that he looks a bit more like Black Adam than Marvel, and I won't really disagree with that, but I don't think I'll ever believe the Rock as a villain. Think Mummy Returns and Doom. I just never buy it, whereas in a movie like the Rundown he kicked ass and was absolutely awesome (and hysterical) as Beck. Give the guy a chance. He would have a lot of fun with the role, and I promise you would have a lot of fun watching him.

Oh yeah, and this thread needs a poll.

He can play goofy and he can play serious and I'm pretty sure he can play anything else in between. The man can act given proper direction.

All I can say is that it's a good thing Richard Donner didn't let fanboys do his casting or we'd have ended up with Hulk Hogan as Zod.

Brendan Fraiser is my #1 for Captain Marvel, but I wouldn't be upset if Johnson played him. He's not right for Black Adam though.
