It showed that cheesy sci-fi/fantasy which tends to only have "geeky" fans and be "childish" can actually be legitimately dramatic and story centric rather than atmosphere centric

Funny but I rank them in pairs because that's how they stack up for me.

1. New Hope/ Empire =Terrific
2. Jedi/Sith =Good
3. Menace/Clones =OK

No Star Wars movie is bad in my opinion.

Barring the gay ewoks, I thought ROTJ had just as much a good resolution as TMSB had a revelation, it was great seeing scene ofvader pick up the emperor and throw him down the shaft as much as "I am your father" scene imo

I worked at the theater at that time and have ALL of them,...plus Phantom Menace. I framed the Triolgy re-release poster.

Best Acted, best written, best directed? Empire strikes Back. It gets closest to what I believe star war's fullest potential to be. You have the swashbuckling, the drama, the metaphysical elements, the cool visuals. Then you have john williams putting the final cherry on top with his excellent scoring. It was arguably all down hill from here, each following film trying to re-capture Empire's greatness, rots being the one trying hardest. Lucas' writing aside the general concept of rots comes very long way towards topping it, but with the sloppy writing and over reliance on cgi the magic's hard to recapture no matter how many hands are chopped off...

Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Revenge of the Sith are the best Star Wars movies for me.

I love them all (yes, even the prequels), but the best one is "The Empire Strikes Back". "Return of the Jedi" was my favorite as a kid, but as you grow older, you tend to appreciate "Empire" more. But "A New Hope" is still one of the best out there. And "Revenge of the Sith" was a great entry to the saga. It felt more like the original trilogy than "The Phantom Menace" or "Attack of the Clones" did.
