With the new 52 collected editions starting to come out this month I was going over to see which ones I wanted to pick up. Having no history whatsoever with Stormwatch I was wondering how the quality was on it? Is it worth picking up?

Apart from the changes made to J'onn I am absolutely loving Stormwatch so far

It started out OK and quickly lost my interest by the 5th issue. I don't even look in it's direction anymore. If you're really into buying collected editions of comic books then I just recommend looking into collections of The Authority instead.

I like Stormwatch. I'm not really sure what changes Mysti is upset about. She probably has a problem with J'onn being straight.

J'onn has always been straight why would that annoy me

And I'm loving Stormwatch as well. Can't wait to see how Milligan is going to be writing Apollo and Midnighter who are my favourite members of the team

Cannot wait to see them get together :atp:

Stormwatch is high quality, and highly recommended. It's also not your typical superhero team book. It's weird and unusual, and full of tongue-in-cheek humor.

I tried with the book, I did, just couldn't hold my interest.

Quit after two issues. It was uncharacteristically terrible for Cornell.

It's one of my least favorite of the New 52. After 3 issues I gave up; but, I quickly signed back on when my other books (Superman, Red Lantern) let me know that their books tied into it.

What doesn't work is that the book doesn't make you care about any of the characters. Like with Levitz's Legion books, there are too many characters, and new readers won't know or care about them much. J'onn is completely wasted in this book, and his only purpose seems to be to get DC readers unfamiliar with the old Wildstorm characters to stick around. I will say I was a bit more hopeful with the last issue. It was a tie-in with Red Lantern, and the writer of Red Lantern wrote that issue. I'm hoping he sticks around. He does a good job with the various characters in his book, and he might be able to do the same with Stormwatch. (So, start with issue #9, and go from there, if you want to save a bunch of bucks ... although, I've seen this title in my comic shops bargain bin.)

It doesn't bother you that he's basically an entirely new character?

Par for the course in a relaunch. Superman's boring now, Wonder Woman is slightly interesting, etc. Lots of changes goin' round.

There are six core characters...others come and go. It's not too much.

Characters are gradually developing. If you skip issues, then of course you're going to think there's not enough develoment, because you're not getting the full story.

Are Apollo and Midnighter still a couple in the Nu-DC world? I'm not reading Stormwatch so I don't really know what's going on.

They haven't gotten together yet (unless it's happened in the past few issues), but they're both still as gay as Nathan Lane.

Oh. Then I agree.

But I don't think that's so much the character's fault as it is the dumbasses currently writing him on those two books. :o

Did Giffen and Jurgens not turn Superman around? They're both usually pretty good.

His characterization got better.

I don't particularly think the stories did, though.

It was all filler, really.

How exactly is J'onn a completely different character? He's on a team with a great deal of responsibility and is feeling stressed out. He's as serious in nature as he ever was.
