what is the greatest sequel of all time?

Empires Strikes Back,

then

Godfather Part II

For this forum The Dark Knight. Critically, Godfather 2.

Aliens for me. It's a roller coaster ride that grabs you by the balls.

Of these, TDK. Needs moar Bride of Frankenstein
.

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. The Dark Knight
3. Superman II
4. Spider-man 2
5. X-Men 2
6. The Two Towers
7. Back to the Future II
8. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
9. Terminator 2
10. Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan
11. Batman Returns
12. Toy Story 2
13. Matrix Reloaded
14. Aliens
15. Die Hard 2
16. Blade 2
17. Ghostbusters II

I am leaving Godfather II out of this, as I have not seen it in a while, and am not sure where to rank it.
Also, I don't feel I can rank Evil Dead 2 as a sequel, as it's kind of a higher budget remake.
and i am not going to rank IM2 because it was so terrible i feel asleep during it.

IM2 was way better than Blade 2, Ghostbusters II, and Matrix Reloaded. Especially Reloaded. Yet you can't rank it because it was so terrible you fell asleep during it? Really?

People on this board take their comic book movies to seriously. Dark Knight is a great film, but I don't think anything tops Aliens, T2, and Empire. Before those were made EVERY sequel was looked at as something to dread. They started the trend of sequels that can be equal to or better than their predecessor.

Aliens was such a gamechanger from Alien. Most of the others on the list were more or less the same as the original film with bigger budgets and better effects. Some moved the story along and had surprising revelations, but Aliens was more than all of those. It was a huge transition from the horror of Alien to the epic of Aliens.

There are a few others I would add to the list though:
Dawn of the Dead
First Blood II: Rambo
Lethal Weapon II
Halloween II
Underworld: Evolution
Beverly Hills Cop II
Hellbound: Hellraiser II
Kill Bill Vol.2
The Road Warrior

The Dark Knight is ahead of Godfather 2, The Empire Strikes Back, and T2? Somebody please shoot me...

kill bill vol 2 isn't really a sequel

I have concerns with him saying Underworld: Evolution is a good sequel more so than counting Vol 2 as a sequel.

The name is KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHN!

Not Kane

lol, that was a typo, i mean MI2, Mission Impossible 2.
edit: in afct it was not even a misread on my part, i was just ranking those on the poll and MI2 is there, spider-neil apparently forgot about IM2 also. which is probably a refection on that movie, great fun but forgettable.

Aliens is probably the most overated sci-fi movie on the internet.
It is nothing more than a brainless action movie, a pretty good one, but it also dimishes the power of the alien from the first one, makes them too easy to kill in the second one.
The fall out from alien is interesting, but once the marines get to the base with the aliens, it gets boring real fast.
Terminator 2 suffers from a similar problem, once Sarah Conner is freed from the loony bin it becomes nothing more than a chase movie.

Please don't patronise me with your assertion that 'people take their cb movies too seriously', i looked on them as movies full stop, and i don't rank Aliens or T2 as highly as you for the reasons given.

edit: what is hilarious about your patronising reamrk is that the movies you say are more worthy are just well made comicbook movies that just so happened not to have been based on a cb property, they were so suited to comics though, being the exact same kind of thing, that they got their own comics afterwards.
edit: your argument might have carried more weight if you had cited Godfather II.
edit: and it does not matter what you think of the movie's importance, and it 's beside the point, but about the only sequel that argument of 'important sequel' carries weight with is Empire, some like myself consider Aliens a sub-par sequel, and even one that diminishes the mythology of the first one.
Hell, you might even say the same for T2, T2 is the more cuddly movie, and basically tells us that what happened in T1 does not matter, they can just keep sending back bots as much as they like.

I much prefer Terminator 1 and Alien, i think both of those are stone cold classics. T2 is comparable to T, but aliens is not even in the same league as the original alien.

Batman Returns for me, in many ways an improvement of the '89. Although I love Hellboy 2, Terimator 2 (best Cameron movie), & Die Hard 2 to bits.

Kill Bill, Vol.2 would definitely get my vote, I just never think of it as a sequel for some reason.

Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom is not even a good movie, let alone great.
