Original printing only please. Copy can be in any condition. Dog-eared, discolored, moth holes, smells like homeless person, etc, but has to be an original. :yay:

My oldest copy would be ASM#7 with the return of the Vulture (the first villain to make a return appearance). I got it when I was a kid in the 90's and still have it tucked in a plastic sleeve somewhere. It cost me about fifty dollars, which when I was 12 was like Bill Gates' fortune. Now it would be a drop in the bucket on a Saturday night.

The copy is in pretty awful shape. Discolored patches and terrible creases on the cover, re-stapled, corners missing from pages. But you can still read everything. No missing panels.

Of course I don't read it anymore now that I have Masterworks and that '40 Years' DVD. But I did read it from cover to cover a couple times as a kid. :awesome:

Sinister Six, right?

Give us details. :oldrazz: What was the condition, how much did you pay, how did you come across it?

Well, the condition I'd say is pretty good. The price was about $75.00, but I think I paid about $45.00 instead. He has this thing where all back issues are 50% off all the time. I came across just looking through some back issues that I was temepted to pick up.

My oldest issue is ASM #1...

I got it around 1990, when the prices started going up... it's in Very Good condition, which I think translates to a 3.5 to 4.0 in the new grading system.

I paid $1500 for it, which was a huge fortune for me, but I was 23 at the time, and had been working for 3 years at my carreer, and I was single and lived in a cheap apartment. I made a deal with the comic shop guy that I would put $600 down, and then pay the remaining $900 over 6 months... though I ended up doing it in 4 months.

I took it home, and I read it. I also smelled it. It smelled good.

Back in 1984, I had a chance to buy a decent copy of ASM #2 for $115... though at the time, in the condition it was in, which was around Fine, it was only worth $70 tops. So I tried to talk the guy down, but he wouldn't budge, and he was known for ripping people off, so I said "See ya later... I'll get a copy some other time"...

Fast forward to 2001, a mere 17 years later, and I have never seen anotehr copy since then, so I ended up paying $125 for a POOR conditioned copy of ebay, because it was the last copy I needed to have a complete ASM collection.

:o

Aloha,
One day my friend, one day.:word:
My oldest is Amazing #2. It's in Fine condition and I paid $250. While working on my Amazing, I was able to complete all other Spidey titles within the regular Marvel U including annuals and mini series.Amazing #1 WILL BE MINE! Do you HEAR ME? It WILL BE MINE!:hrt:

The best Spider-Man deal I ever made was around 1985, when I scored ASM #3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 121 & 122 for just under $300.
That's about $15 per book...
All conditions varied from VG to NM...

My ASM #3 was only $30... :yay:

My mom shat her pants when she found out I spent that kind of money on "comics"... :wow:

Aloha,
That was a steal. My best price for a comic was Amazing #3. I was in a Bodega (Spanish grocery store) in the early 90's and there was #3 laid out with a bunch of comics. I asked the guy "How much? He looked at the cover and said "12 cents!:wow:I paid him and literally RAN OUT OF THE STORE!!!!:cwink:

Didn't you ever return there?
There could be more valuable comics.

Honestly, that's just fantastic!

My oldest Spidey issue is Amazing Spider-Man #6. I bought it on March 15, 1998 at the second comic convention I had ever been to. Its condition is probably either 3.0 or 3.5 (really that's just my best guess). At that particular time that I bought it the dealer was having a 50% discount on all of his Silver Age comics, so I paid $130.00 for it.

Something that still bites me to this day is that during the first comic convention that I went to, which would have been around November '97, a dealer was selling Amazing Fantasy #15 (condition was Very Good+) for $3000.00. At the time I approached him there was about an hour left until the show closed and so he was willing to sell it for $2500.00. I was in 8th grade and yes I had enough money to buy this copy. However, 2 factors stopped me, 1) my money was sitting in my savings account at the bank on a Sunday, and 2) the dealer was only taking cash.

Mine would be Amazing Spider-Man #31. I got it last year. I have a friend who hunted down a 7.0 copy of it for about $75. I can't really claim it as mine, as it belongs to my daughter, who shares a name with Spidey's love interest who first appeared in this very issue...Gwen.

MY oldest comic, I guess would be ASM#38, the last Ditko issue, which I got for a steal at $25 in AWESOME condition. I only own these two Lee/Ditko issues.

Amazing #111, the first Gerry Conway issue. Picked it up for a quarter from the Midtown Comics discount bins at the last New York Comicbook Marketplace when they were half price for the first hour. It's in very good condition, except someone three-hole punched it to keep in a binder, I imagine. Luckily, no dialogue or art was severely cut by that stupidity.

I know i have a some issue of AMZ Spider-Man somewhere..that;s in bad condition. idk where it is but i know it had to deal with Hobgoblin trying to kill his brother who was under witness protection and Spidey jumps in trying to save him. lot of webs and pumpkin bombs flying around. i wish i knew what issue it was so i could re-buy it. it was the first comic i ever bought. (aside from this batman comic where they make it as if YOU are in the story by putting your name in it)
in terms of what I can find/visibly see/ know where it is..my oldest single issue would be the first issue of Spider-Man Unlimited(animated series)

Sounds like Spectacular Spider-Man #259-261 "Goblins at the Gate".

That might win the award for "newest oldest issue." :oldrazz:

I liked that issue too, spida-man. It's always good to hear about someone's first comic purchase (even if it makes me feel old by comparison).

and turns out I was 7 or 8 when I got it lol

The oldest Spidey issue that I own is The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 from 1964. I hope to get it signed by Stan Lee this May at the Arizona con. :yay:
