I guess that depends on how you interpreted the question.

For me, the question's intent was "Why do they do what they do." the answer being that they use terrorist tactics to accomplish what they cannot accomplish peaceably.

That's why terrorist organizations do what they do, because they cannot promote their causes peaceably.

If you're looking at it from an individual aspect, I can think of a few reasons.

1. They cannot accomplish what they want peaceably.
2. Their desire for revenge for perceived wrongs.
3. They are compensating for their inability to take an enemy straight on.
4. They've been raised to believe that it's the right way to take out an enemy.

To bring attention to whatever percieved injustice has gone unrecognised. obviously in saying unrecognised i also mean unresolved issues or where a group has tried to follow ordinary paths to seek justice and has not been able to recieve a FAIR hearing.

Terrorism is merely a tactic to achieve political gains. Terrorist commit unspeakable atrocities that seem hard to comprehend, but rarely are the complete madmen that organise such attacks.

Everyone views terrorists in their own manner. They viewed the Black Panthers as terrorists. Other countries may view us in that manner. There are people that do things via the internet that they call cyber-terrorists. Main goal is to instill fear in the people that you want, so their way of life ceases or changes drastically.
