... thread.

Have you ever questioned the existence of certain things in this life? As I go about my grooming routine, for the umpteenth time this question has popped into my head: "What the heck is the purpose of armpit hair?! Especially on a woman?! Ugh!!" I've been pondering and pondering and pondering and all I got was a big fat NOTHING!

What have you been wondering about and have you got the answers to your questions?

One other thing that I was wondering about: the existence of mosquitoes. The only anwers I've got to that one are: 1) they exist to annoy me and 2) population control.

Are you looking for someone to go, I'm with you Bella
Or are you looking for some killjoy to come in and go, actually armpit hair is...

Mosquitoes are effectively a great means of population control as they are one of the greatest vector of diseases.

We often do question many things reagrding life and our bodies as we have very little utility for them today but rest assured that once these things were often very useful before we evolved (or were created).

The SHH Lounge.

Seriously?

Thread can be made into rope. Rope helps Hype member Dangerous when he wants some lovin.

nipples on men?

I actually know the answer to that one. Initially, we all begin as females in the womb. We develop nipples prior to nature or the sperm or whatever actually decides what sex we are going to be.

And honestly numbers in your username.

I mean, yeah e-mail, gamertags, if you are late to the party you are stuck with a name with numbers on it.

But on a messageboard full of like 2,000?

Is it really hard to pick a name without numbers?

Uhm...question?

How can something on our bodies have been useful to us at all before we were created, if we were created?

Suck it.

Read my post. I think he means something like that.
Doubtful, as he references evolution immediately before creation (strongly indicating a reference to the evolution vs. creationism debate).

He's also talking about vestigial characters, not sexual dimorphism and developmental differentiation, as you were.

What's the purpose of body hair at all? We don't have enough of it to keep us warm. It certainly isn't effective as camouflage. I suppose if you were truly desperate and patient enough you could grow enough hair to cut and then make clothing out of it. However, would you really prefer a shirt made out of human hair or one made out of cotton?

An overwhelming majority of heat-loss from the body occurs at the head...the one place we've kept quite an abundance of hair (unless you count the pubic region). So it still has some function, really.

The idea that we question the existance of mosquitoes but accept our own existance is funny. Don't mosquitoes have the same right to live on the planet as we do? They came first.
...well, to be honest, I think that, "rights," aren't a natural concept...i.e., they're a man-made idea. :o

Rights are a figment of the imagination.

Except, if it works so well, why do we still lose most of our heat that way. Doesn't a good hat work much better? And if hair on the head is a good thing, why is it that there are more and more men with bald heads and far too much hair in other places?

Both.
So what's your answer to my question, genius?

Mosquitoes are effectively a great means of population control as they are one of the greatest vector of diseases.

Aye on the 'population control' theory. I'm with you on that.

So... once upon a time, armpit hair was useful because it keeps that part under our arm warm?

What is the purpose of Haggis? Honestly you couldn't find a better way to cook your food than stick it in a sheeps belly?

(oh and mosquitoes feed millions of fish, fowl and bats - we need the bats!!!) :cwink:
Ahh... there is another purpose to mosquitoes other than to annoy me and to kill people! Yay mosquitoes!

Somebody had a goatee made out of pubic hair. Well... that was fictional but still...
When you say 'body hair' does that include the hair on our head? I like that one. Very much.

The idea that we question the existance of mosquitoes but accept our own existance is funny. Don't mosquitoes have the same right to live on the planet as we do? They came first.
Who says we don't question our own existance? Many of us do. Sure, mosquitoes have the same right to live as long as they're not sucking my blood. As soon as they attach themselves to me... POW! They're dead and I kill them with a clear conscience because my survival, in that scenario, is more important than theirs. I like being alive and healthy.

nipples on men?

"Why the heck to men have nipples? What do we need them for anyways? Is it some joke God thought would be funny? The question came to be one night, while I was sitting on the couch without a shirt, watching the Simpsons, and eating cheesy poofs! The wife rolled her eyes, and gave me that "oh no here he goes again" look, and proceeded to ignore my inquiry! Also the kids had long since vanished at the sight of their dad without a shirt. On more than one occasion, they have tried to roll me back into the ocean. Sigh. So tell me, why we men have them?..." ~ marzblackmann

So you're saying that hair on the pubic region serves no purpose at all?

I think the numbers bear some sort of significance. Like a birthdate or birth year or a favorite number. Maybe?

Someday, someone is gonna come here and wanna be Erzengel so badly...that he'll settle for Erzengel87, and he will be the greatest poster the Hype has ever known.

Well, with 3D-Man, that was actually the name of the comic book character.
