Hi everyone,
Let me start off by saying that if this becomes another thread with no responses that quickly disappears I understand. What I am about to ask from you is crazy by all accounts, but I guess Im asking it anyway. Im working a small project where Im collecting (and potentially publishing) stories from people all around the world. I believe everyone has a story worth telling, and Im looking for those people who are not afraid to share. Im asking people to write an open letter (in less than 500 words).
The content of this letter is up to you. Think of it as a 500-word frame into your own world. A chance to show people who you are, talk about whatever you want to talk about. It can be as personal (or not) as you want. It is completely anonymous and wont ever be traced back to you. The only limits are sticking with the 500 words limit and not including any names. Aside from that it really is a blank canvas that you can fill however you see fit.
If youve stuck with me this far, I want to thank you in advance. I know what Im asking that is crossing a lot of boundaries, and it requires an amount of trust I probably dont deserve. But I want to stress that you are completely in control here. The internet has allowed us to reach thousands of people from all around the world, but it also guarantees you a certain anonymity. If you decided not to share there wont be any consequences for doing so.
Now there is one question I feel like I must answer why am I doing this? Ive always been obsessed with talking to strangers, meeting people and hear their stories. To quote lyrics from a song that I absolutely adore, Im the kinda person who is
Sitting in a station
Contemplating looks on peoples faces
Wondering why theyre smiling
Or what troubles they are facing
And I don't know why I'm thinking it
But I just take the time to sit
And wonder what their dream is
And how they're trying to chase it
This project is very personal to me. I guess in a small way I want to contribute, to give people a voice. The idea is to one day have a website with a thousand stories that show the connections between people from all around the world, showing what things we share, and what sets us all apart. It is like I said everybody has a story, but whether you are brave enough to share it that is up to you.
