What next for the WWE, does it have a reason to exist?

WWE exist to make Vince a billionaire. He doesn't care about quality anymore.

Its Capitalism....YAY Capitalism....People are still going to shows...They came to CT recently and both shows sold out in like 2 days....so apparently someone seems to like it....

It's not stupidity or hypocrisy which is the correct way of spelling hypocritisy. I read hypocritisy and don't laugh, I just smile.
Wolverine doesn't kill his wife and kid. :) You don't see the UFC fighters pretending to beat up women.

Spiderman movies:
* Green Goblin Terrorized Aunt May, sending her to the hospital
* Goblin dropped a cable car of kids and Mary Jane to potential deaths
*Spiderman refuses to surrender to police, cheats on his girlfriend, makes hip thrusting gentures to women and beats up bouncers in a bar.
*Doc Ock kidnaps Mary Jane ( saying he'll peel her skin) and tries to
kill Aunt May. He kills several people, including women, during the movie
but acts in a heroic fashion in the end.

Batman movies:

* Batman sleeps with Vickie Vale while never intending to have a relationship with her, inflicts violence on the morally ambiguous Catwoman, swims in hotel fountain with two women and is suggested that he will leave with both of them
*Penguin gropes an unexpecting campaign supporter, makes constant sexual references and attempts to kill Catwoman and all of Gotham's children.
* Joker cheats with Carl Grissom's girlfriend, kills a restaurant full of people and poisons Gotham with toxic chemicals.
* Two-Face cavorts with two women, tries to kill Chase Meridian and kills the Graysons.
*Poison Ivy attempts to kill Mr. Freeze's wife, seduces men through chemical means and is guarded by the strength-enhanced Bane. ( Also noteworthy is that Batman uses the fictional steriod, Venom, in the comics).

X-Men movies:

* Wolverine awakens from a dream and nearly kills Rogue by stabbing her in the chest. She then nearly kills him by attempting to heal herself. Wolverine also attempts to break-up Jean and Cyclops and eventually kills Jean/Phoenix. He also kills Lady Deathstrike, shown to be under the control of Striker.

*Magneto tries to kill Rogue, only a girl at the time, tries to kill every non-mutant on the planet, and abandons Mystique, naked on the floor at the time, once she is of no use to him.

***************************************

I'm not going to go into more examples from X-men because they are far too plentiful. The point I want to make is that these are examples from the mass marketed movies from the most mainstream of comic book mythos. They feature every sort of aberrant behavior ,sometimes even by the heros, and they are marketed toward kids. I find it impossible for any comic book fan to look at pro wrestling in a "morally corrupt" light when the themes of comics are even more mature.

49er took the books, i'll take TV

Smallville:

1.Clark Kent (Superman) has been caused rampant property damage on multiple occasions.

2. Committed adultery with a married character

3. Has openly threatened to "kill" other characters

Heroes:

1. Sylar (the villain) kills a teenage girl in a quite bloody scene, thinking she is another of the main characters.

2. Attempted rape of a female character, thus followed by violent death of both attackers.

3. Constant examples of violence against innocent bystanders along with breaking and entering.

Both of these shows air on broadcast TV and are just as accessible, if not more so, then pro-wrestling.

you can nver question the moral ambiguity of film or television. its not supposed to be a place to learn, its entertainment. no one should be expected to learn lifes lessons on the boob tube because its not reality.
im sure even some moments of the ufc are staged.

I would disagree unless you mean just the contexts of entertainment TV. But even then you can learn from that. You can learn pretty much something from anything.

im sure you might be able to learn something but it is not expected of you .

How come wrestlers are always chewing gum? All the time, they chew gum.

Even during a match, it looks like some of them have gum in their mouth.

Whirly's issue is that 1. he just doesn't like pro-wrestling 2. By virtue of his occupation, he is forced to interact with individuals who are ardent fans of it.

? I guess they are in to dental care.

No of course not. But still I learned from WWF/WWE that it is wrong to attach someone with a chair unprovoked. :cwink:

i learned from wwe that if you attack someones father its almost a guaranteed title shot.

some of them also spit . i noticed hbk used to spit a wad in the air sometimes when hed get punched.

How does that make their sport less violent? Especially when there is nothing that is pretend about it. It's all real. They are actually trying to beat one another into submission to prove their superiority.

Isn't that basically what the "might makes right" message means?

No it's sport, two trained athletes competing to see who has the greater skills under rules in an arena. Wheras the WWE is not a sport and promotes grudges and the use of weapons on each other. Attacks from behind by gangs etc. Violence on women, might makes right. Not skill and training makes a winner like Boxing and amateur wrestling or the UFC.

That you are wrong about. it still requires athleticism...I can't do a full 450 flip in the air....or fall proplerly without hurting myself....most professional wrestlers go through about 18 months of training (be it learning how to fall, protecting yourself when performing a manuever, etc,) before even being involved in a match....and as for UFC or boxing or MMA....i can guarantee not everyone is there for competitions sake....i'm sure there are plenty of UFC participants who simply like to hurt people....

rumours of jericho back on monday's raw?

over a barrel?

i dunno that saying.

I wonder,is the WWF making more money now..or has it made more in the past..but viewership has declined for various reasons?

wow.. people still call it wwf? :p.. maybe just to remember the good days :)

Some are athletic in the way circus tumblers are and some are ex athletes and strentgth athletes like Kurt Angle and Henry (the worlds strongest man in one exercise, I bet Marius laughs at that a lot). Most WWE "performers" though are just guys on steroids who look the part or size freaks. They may have had some "training" but they are not elite athletes. Combat sportsmen have to be prepared to flick the switch and inflict damage to defeat an opponent, it is a test of resolve and attitude as well as athleticism. That doesn't stop it being a competition under rules. The WWE is all about pretending to hit people with a steel chair or jump off a ladder. That's not about skill or bravery, it's just a bit silly. Cutting yourself with a razor to pretend you've been cut.... (Whirly shakes head and laughs).

Basically means that with all the suspensions and injuries, the WWE needs main event type talent.....the term itself means when two parties are engaged in a negotiation over something and one party has all the leverage....

nope....they posted a profit last quarter, mostly spurned by DVD sales....live event attendance is actually up....they've been to CT twice recently and sold out both shows....

WWE has never claimed to be a sport....Combat sportsmen, the ones I have met, are self-absorbed pariahs who basically feel all should bow to their "skills" We had an incident here in Connecticut where an Martial Arts Instructor battered his wife severely......
