The Dark Knight What should the next Batman film be called

I wanted Depp for Joker. That was some time ago.....

Its not like he is a bad action. Yes, he's bigger than Bale but as long as Nolan doesn't give him more screen time then what difference would it make.

This movie would have a take to make Pirates type money.

This movie is gonna be bigger than Begins hopefully, it just seems right. Now, Pirates 2 money.....Well, that thing is a monstrosity.

I think he'd had been cool, but what turns me off about him is that he's such a power house. I mean, Lots of people will need to be told that Ldeger was "one of the dudes in Brokeback Mountain". But, Depp? That man is known throughout the entire universe......I belive he's got 3 solar systems named after him. As well as EVERY woman wanting to have his children, and EVERY man wanting to be him.....I dunno, the dude is just too huge a name for a role that will only be 2nd to Batman/ Bale. You risk getting hit with TONS of criticism if you do it right, by having Batman being the lead character.....and not having the Joker run the film (again..).

That'd be my only gripe with Depp as the Joker.

Heh yeah, he was huge before, but now he is just too big for the sequel, would probably be too distracting from everyone else.......At least we know Ledger will probably not have that same effect.

Naming it like a graphic novel would be bad, unless it's BATMAN YEAR ONE......but, who knows.

Batman II sounds like a cop out, and wouldn't exactly ring well with Batman Begins already out. I mean, I think if they were going to do that, they would have left Begins out of the title. So, I think we're not getting any numbers b/c of that.

Batman Continues? Maybe as a tagline that'd work, but that's such a boring title. Batman Escalation is just okay. I think Batman Rises is good enough that it'd work.

To be honest, I didn't think that Batman Begins was a very inspiring name.

But neither were any of the names of the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises.

So perhaps we are giving it more importance than what is necessary.

So I with that in mind, I would either name it

"Batman"

"The Batman"

or


"Batman Escalation"

Problem is that general audiences get confused with titles, and WB will probably want something that sounds ''cool'' against Batman. Let's drop the ''Batman Does Something'' titles and go a bit more Bond in the way the films are named.

Well, that's the thing about Depp. I am convinced the man can BECOME any role, if he's got the right person to ase it off. And, he does that perfectly. I am convinced he could pull of the Joker and pull off Dent/ Two-Face.

But, raybia.....the thing I loved about Batman Begins, was that the movie was all about Bruce Wayne/ Batman. He was the center piece, and he was the main character. Everyone else was secondary, and that's the way it should be.

But, if you add Depp. I mean, mother****ing Depp? Damn, that'd be a huge draw.....and would create criticism b/c if you have Depp, you'll NEED to give him a huge part in the film. He's a heavy hitter, people go to see HIM. Not to see some of him. So, that could create horrible word of mouth, that there wasn't enough Depp.....or that they didn't let Depp act, or let Depp shine. Tons of that.

And, if they give in and give him the screentime...we get another BATMAN 89 film, which is a showcase of the Joker. I just don't want that. I want Bale to be the top dog, the man that carries the film because he's the man playing the Batman. I feel that with Depp, and he's a fantastic actor, he's such a powerhouse....it would change things too much.

But, I get you man. I do, the guy is an incredible actor.

Well I feel that if they were going to go with the numbers....that maybe BEGINS would not have been in the title. BEGINS being in the title makes me assume that they're going with titles, and not numbers.

I agree that going the Bond route would be cool and new to the genre but with the name recognizition of "Batman", WB would never exclude it from the title, right or wrong.

You're right and with all the trouble WB has gone through to resurrect this franchise it would be a foolish move to cast someone like Depp. Bale really has the chance to be a big box office name too so WB should keep the focus on the Wayne/Batman character.

I really think that Bale hasn't come close to peaking yet in this role and I have a feeling that there is a brilliant performance waiting to come of him at some point in the franchise.

Nah, don't worry about it. I mean, Depp is a great actor. I think if cirumstances were different, he'd get the role. But, the sad thing is that it's not about his abilities, it's about the toher stuff, ya know? I guess Hollywood has a way of doing that, making things so complicated.

The thing about Bale is that he seems to REFUSE to cash in on anything. The man could probably choose some huge budget film to make, and cash in the bucks. But, he sticks to his Indie roots. I totally respect the dude for that. He seems to keep himself under the radar by choosing deeper, lower-key roles.

And yeah, your right....I think Bale will only get better as the Batman/Bruce Wayne. And, it'd be best to keep him in the forefront of it and keep the focus on him.

Heh, I actually meant Superman Returns. Sorry, my bad. I mixed my frustrations with the Batman titles with the topic of how much money this franchise relaunchs are getting. Too much free time lately.....

I think they do. The thing is, it's not officially in the title. But, in the ads and the commericals and all that....the 007 logo is always there with the title. Plus, everyone is pre-disposed to knowing that Bond has different titled films....so we know that, and expect it. And, the commericals and ads ALWAYS let us know that it's James Bond. Either with the logo, the taglines, or the Bond music. The title alone might not let us know it's Bond....but everything else is amplified to let us know.

So....for Batman to do that, they'd need to amplify eveything else. Have the Bat logo near the name all the time. Keep the ambience.

But, I think it'd be tough. I'm guessing BATMAN: ***title*** is how it will have to go, just b/c WB might **** up on the marketing.
